Myriad Heavens: Who Let Him Into the Horror Movie?-Chapter 28 : Confrontation

Chapter 28

Chapter 28: Confrontation
Behind the door was a dark, narrow passageway—only wide enough for two or three people to pass through side by side. It was extremely damp, reminiscent of a sewer.
A faint mist hung in the air, adding an eerie atmosphere to the tunnel.
At the end of the passage was a small, low exit.
Stooping down to pass through, Li Zhen was a little surprised by the sight that greeted him beyond.
The exit opened from the base of the building, leading to a narrow path suspended above water.
The vast underground space was filled with numerous ponds of varying sizes, their origins unknown.
Torches burned everywhere—on the ponds, along the narrow path, and on a vaguely visible clearing at the far end.
Farther away, the darkness deepened; it was impossible to tell if there was an end at all.
A gust of wind arose from nowhere, causing the torches to flicker wildly.
It seemed that this was not the bottom of the building, but rather another realm entirely.
Even Li Zhen felt an uncontrollable pressure in his chest upon arriving here.
The Red-Eyed Bat crouched motionless on his shoulder, its blazing eyes staring ahead, fixed on something unseen.
Li Zhen stepped over a rock blocking his way and began walking along the narrow path over the water.
The wind grew stronger.
A thin layer of mist rose from the surface of the water, making the place even more sinister.
Through the haze, vague silhouettes began to close in slowly around Li Zhen.
He turned back.
The tunnel behind him was also filled with shadowy figures.
Yet Li Zhen did not feel the slightest bit of tension.
“Such petty tricks can’t fool anyone. Why disgrace yourself like this?”
The fact that he had reached this place safely already put his mind at ease.
As soon as Li Zhen’s words fell, the figures vanished just as suddenly as they had appeared.
Within the silent fog, a strange childlike voice echoed—
“Big Guang, greedy mouth, ended up slaughtered for his vice…”
“Uncle Bo, couldn’t recite the incantation, lost the chance in his hands in vain…”
The yellow talismans that Master Danyang had given him suddenly grew hot in his arms, burning against his skin.
When Li Zhen pulled them out, they immediately gave off wisps of green smoke and burst into small balls of fire.
It was coming…
“I know you bear resentment,” Li Zhen said, “but you shouldn’t harm people!”
With a flick of his wrist, he tossed the burning talismans into the nearby water.
The voice paused for a moment, then spoke again in a chilling tone: “It wasn’t me who wanted to harm them—it was they who offended me first!”
Li Zhen sharply turned his head toward the left, where a short, indistinct figure hovered above the water’s surface.
“Fatty Wong never offended you, yet you tried to kill him. The other security guards in this building didn’t offend you either—would you have spared them?”
The mist swirled. The small figure vanished, and when it spoke again, its voice came from the opposite side. “I didn’t want to hurt you. I didn’t want to hurt Fatty Wong. But you wanted to hurt me.”
Li Zhen sneered. “Your resentment is so great that you kill at the slightest provocation—who wouldn’t want to destroy you?”
A blinding red flash appeared in the corner of Li Zhen’s eye—then disappeared again.
“It is Heaven’s will that I return to the living world!”
“Heaven’s will?” Li Zhen asked coldly. “Then why am I here?”
He stepped over a burning torch and continued forward along the narrow path.
“When the time comes, I will be reborn!” The eerie voice grew excited. “You can’t stop me!”
After crossing the path, Li Zhen arrived at a small platform.
Through the dense mist, he could see several wooden stakes driven into the ground, each holding a large burning torch.
The mist thickened, pressing down on him with an almost physical weight.
“Screee!”
The Red-Eyed Bat spread its crimson jaws and let out a few provocative screeches before vanishing from Li Zhen’s shoulder in a blur.
Its flight path was nearly impossible to track with the naked eye.
Li Zhen only felt a rush of air brush against his face—then the mist nearby quickly dispersed.
He thought the Red-Eyed Bat was still by his side, but its cry suddenly echoed from the distant water’s surface.
When he looked over, there was only the roiling fog.
The Red-Eyed Bat was cutting paths through the mist as it flew.
While Li Zhen searched for it, the creature had already returned to his shoulder.
It had finally regained some of the majestic air it had when he first encountered it...
Seeing the Red-Eyed Bat unharmed, Li Zhen grew even more certain—the entity here could do nothing to him.
Back at the cemetery, the bat had been injured just after flying one round.
Glancing at the mist, Li Zhen said calmly, “If I had to guess, your true body is with Master Danyang right now. With Siu Lan, you could only cloud her mind with resentment. And here, all you can do is manipulate resentment and yin energy—using your ‘home ground’ to restrain me.”
A ghastly voice replied, “You can’t harm me. Heaven wills my return to the world!”
“You say it’s Heaven’s will,” Li Zhen said, “then let Heaven decide. If you lose, pass on peacefully—don’t linger among the living. If I lose, you may reincarnate as you wish.”
The other party fell silent.
Li Zhen sat down on the ground.
In the enemy’s domain, he could only wait for Master Danyang to create an opportunity.
Before his eyes, figures of men and women appeared one by one in the swirling mist, each dressed differently.
Li Zhen’s heart tightened.
He frowned and looked around.
The figures were faint, unreal—without resentment.
They passed by him as if unable to see him.
Each held a stick of incense, silently gathering together as though performing some secret ritual.
The flames flickered.
Not a single person spoke.
The atmosphere was chillingly strange.
Li Zhen seemed to understand something, and quietly watched what unfolded next.
A man appeared, carrying a small girl in his arms.
He walked through the silent crowd, wrapped a chain around the little girl’s neck, and bound her to a wooden stake driven into the ground. Then, he dressed her in red clothes.
Li Zhen’s gaze lingered on the girl tied to the stake. His voice dropped low. “So that was you?”
……
Seeing the vicious-looking Siu Lan rush at him with reckless abandon, Fatty Wong jumped in fright.
“I’m trying to save you!” he shouted.
Siu Lan looked frail and thin, her belly swollen with pregnancy—but at that moment, she moved like a woman possessed, her strength no less than Fatty Wong’s. With a few shoves, she sent him sprawling aside.
He scrambled up from the ground.
With a hiss and a sizzle, the scorching-hot bagua pendant slipped from his hand and clattered to the floor.
He had torn it off Siu Lan in the chaos.
She wore only loose sleepwear, with nowhere to hide anything—this pendant was the only item on her.
There was now a clear bagua-shaped burn on the skin below her neck.
Was this something Master Danyang had left behind? Hard to say whether it was meant to protect or restrain her…
Following Li Zhen’s instructions, Fatty Wong pulled two cross-shaped effigies—made of chopsticks—from his pocket.
Each effigy had yellow talismans stuck to it.
Dodging the frenzied Siu Lan, he ripped the talismans off and hastily untied the red strings binding them, then hurled both little crosses at her.
“I’ve got no other choice! Uncle Hon! Big Mouth! Help me!”
Two ferocious ghosts, familiar to Fatty Wong, burst forth from the cross-shaped effigies and lunged savagely at Siu Lan.
She immediately fell to the ground, her body convulsing uncontrollably.
Did I go too far?
Startled by her state, Fatty Wong froze for a moment—but his hands did not stop.
He grabbed a hammer and smashed it down on the stove.
After several heavy blows, the stove was completely destroyed.
