Myriad Heavens: Who Let Him Into the Horror Movie?-Chapter 40 : The Illusion Curse

Chapter 40

Chapter 40: The Illusion Curse
“That thing really can’t be blamed on me!”
Zheng Nan rubbed his cheeks and said weakly to Li Zhen, “At that time, the four of us… me and three friends went on a trip to Nanyang.”
“We went there for fun, and that woman later told us she… was sick, that kind of sickness, so we had to run. We ran and ran until we reached Naimi’s place.”
“He was dueling with two Head-Descending Curse masters and almost lost. We helped him, and he said he’d treat us as friends. Hah, if I’d known earlier, I never would’ve become friends with him.”
“He introduced his younger sister to us — a very beautiful girl. That girl took a liking to my friend Ah Bang. I don’t know why, but she just did.”
“Naimi wanted to cast a Head-Descending Curse on Ah Bang — that so-called Love Curse… I asked around about it after I came back.”
“When the curse was delivered, it was packaged in a gift box. Ah Bang wasn’t around; only the three of us were there. We were close, so we opened it for him. In the end…”
“When Naimi’s sister woke up, she said the three of us… wanted to kill us, but she tripped and fell, and died herself.”
“With a snap, she fell to the floor and was stabbed to death by the knife she was holding. Master Li, do you understand what I mean?”
Li Zhen took a sip of water to hide his speechlessness. “Roughly. You three… all…”
Zheng Nan clutched his head. “We didn’t want that! No—saying we didn’t want it isn’t honest. We did want it, just… not like that…”
“In any case, it happened, and Naimi’s sister ended up dead.” Li Zhen put down the cup. “He believes you killed his sister, so now he wants to kill your entire family.”
Zheng Nan jumped in fright. “So vicious? He wants to kill my whole family?”
Li Zhen looked at the pitch-black night outside the window. “He’s been wandering near your home for so long, probably to collect your hair or make other preparations.”
“Then what should I do now?” Zheng Nan asked anxiously, glancing out the window as if something really was watching him from the dark. “Master, you have to help me! Naimi came to Hong Kong Island without permission… Who’s calling at this hour? That’s terrifying…”
He looked toward the phone as if he had heard something.
Li Zhen followed his gaze thoughtfully.
He didn’t hear any phone ringing.
The aura of the Head-Descending Curse stirred the Red-Eyed Bat hidden beneath his clothes into excitement.
“It’s here.”
“What’s here?”
“Naimi’s Head-Descending Curse.”
“Head… Descending… Curse?”
“Go find a rope and tie yourself up.”
“Ah? Tie myself up?” Zheng Nan stared wide-eyed and pointed at himself.
Li Zhen smiled. “If you want to live.”
Looking at Li Zhen’s smile, Zheng Nan felt a strong sense of aggression.
Under that gaze, he couldn’t muster even the slightest thought of resistance.
He scrambled into the room, crawling and stumbling, found a rope from somewhere, and clumsily tied his hands.
To tie his legs more easily, he squatted on the floor.
When he couldn’t manage properly, he rushed to open the door and anxiously called for his wife, Leung Hinyuk, to help.
Leung Hinyuk had actually been eavesdropping the whole time, but Zheng Nan had lowered his voice earlier, so she only heard parts of the conversation.
Urged by Zheng Nan, she didn’t have time to ask questions and tightly bound his hands and feet.
Suddenly, Zheng Nan looked toward the door. “I think I heard someone knocking…”
While tightening the rope, Leung Hinyuk glanced at the entrance. “I didn’t hear any knocking.”
Zheng Ze, who had followed them out, shook his head. “Dad, there’s no knocking! You must’ve heard wrong!”
“No, no!” Zheng Nan said firmly. “Someone’s knocking… calling for me, sounds like my parents! Master, do you hear them? They’re telling me to open the door…”
Seeing the nervous, utterly genuine look on Zheng Nan’s face, Leung Hinyuk suddenly felt that the house had become eerie.
They had just seen off her in-laws — their portraits were still in the living room — and now Zheng Nan was saying his parents had returned. Wasn’t that strange?
Watching how things were developing, Li Zhen suddenly said, “Block his ears.”
Leung Hinyuk hesitated.
Zheng Nan, however, blocked his own ears. “Hurry, stupid, find something to block my ears!”
Zheng Ze ran into the room, found a small ball of cotton from somewhere, and stuffed it into Zheng Nan’s ears.
“Good boy… Ah! Dad… Mom…”
Tied up like a bundle, Zheng Nan suddenly widened his eyes, filled with terror as he looked at his wife and son. He pulled his legs in and curled up in the corner.
“What’s wrong with you?” Leung Hinyuk, at a loss, held Zheng Nan.
Zheng Nan desperately shoved her away, screaming, “Don’t come near! Don’t come near me… You’re dead! Buried!”
Leung Hinyuk looked helplessly at Li Zhen. “Mr. Li, Ah Nan, he…”
Li Zhen said thoughtfully, “Find something to cover his eyes.”
Leung Hinyuk hesitated.
Li Zhen explained briefly, “He’s been cursed with a Nanyang Head-Descending Curse. If you don’t follow my instructions, once he breaks free, he’ll kill his entire family — that means you and your son.”
“Head-Descending Curse?!” Leung Hinyuk was startled.
She tore a strip from the mourning clothes Zheng Ze was wearing and, ignoring Zheng Nan’s screams and struggles, blindfolded him tightly.
Zheng Nan kept struggling, muttering and cursing through his gag.
Li Zhen continued, “Now block his mouth.”
Leung Hinyuk didn’t delay and did as Li Zhen instructed.
Seeing Zheng Nan sniffing as if catching a scent, Li Zhen added, “Block his nose. If you can’t, just pinch it.”
Leung Hinyuk tried pinching his nose.
Zheng Nan’s whole body twisted violently, struggling madly.
“Don’t block his mouth completely — leave him room to breathe. Don’t suffocate him,” Li Zhen said.
Leung Hinyuk held Zheng Nan tightly, ignoring his struggles, and pinched his nose.
So this was the Illusion Curse?
Li Zhen observed Zheng Nan’s reactions.
From his recollection, Zheng Nan, after being afflicted by the Illusion Curse, had gone mad — hacked his entire family to death, killed two neighbors who came knocking, and finally jumped off the building himself.
This Illusion Curse was indeed fascinating.
Such a vicious curse not only affected the victim but also brought disaster to everyone around them.
If Li Zhen hadn’t arrived suddenly, Zheng Nan would already have gone insane and started killing.
Even with Zheng Nan’s senses sealed as Li Zhen had instructed, he still writhed and struggled.
This curse’s influence clearly extended beyond the five senses — it also affected touch and perhaps directly generated hallucinations in the mind.
In the booklet Li Zhen had obtained from Ma Gusu, there was no record of this curse. There was only a similar one that influenced perception, but nothing as terrifying as the Illusion Curse.
Ma Gusu’s school of Head-Descending Curses and this one were clearly from entirely different lineages.
The Red-Eyed Bat hidden beneath Li Zhen’s clothes sensed the aura of another Head-Descending Curse and grew more agitated, squirming beneath the fabric.
“Master Li…” Leung Hinyuk looked at Li Zhen for help.
Having already sensed the location of the descending curse master, Li Zhen rose from the sofa.
Affected by the Red-Eyed Bat’s agitation, his own mood also turned restless.
“Watch him carefully.”
