“Since we’ve accepted the request, we’ll complete it,” Kui Yi answered, “But we need more time. Plus, one of our colleagues is sick.” Kui Yi moved to get Director Qi to check on Lee Kaifeng. Lee Kaifeng was lying down under the cover. Her eyes were closed and her cheeks were red. Her eyebrows furrowed as her body shivered.
Director Qi hesitated before moving forward to touch her forehead. Then, he peeled back her eyelids to check. “It’s nothing serious.” He turned. “I’ll have people set her up on a drip.”
“Thank you.”
Before he left, Director Qi reminded them of their job. If they didn’t complete the job, they wouldn’t get the rest of the pay. Two days. They still had two more days.
After Director Qi left, Cao Yang stated with suspicion. “This man looks so nervous. We’re dealing with ghosts. He’s only giving us two days?!”
Yu Yu, who stayed by the bed, added, “It feels like he’ll be the next to die if we don’t deal with this.” Everyone was the same. There were so many people at the hospital. Why was he the one who was so nervous? It was clearly abnormal.
After a quick discussion, they would explore the hospital during the day. The clues wouldn’t come and find them. However, it was inappropriate to leave Lee Kaifeng alone. “I’ll stay to look after her,” Wang Changguo offered. Everyone knew that he didn’t care about her. He was scared, so he wanted to stay in the room. No one exposed him.
Jiang Cheng scanned around and suggested that Weiwei stay as well. The reason was that she didn’t have a good sleep last night, and his heart pained for her. Several gazes landed on him as he said that, but Jiang Cheng was unfazed. That way, only six people were left. It would grab too much attention if they moved in a group. Therefore, they decided to split into two groups based on their room assignment. Kui Yi, Cao Yang and Yu Yu, one group. Jiang Cheng, Du Feng, Lin Wan ‘Er, another group. They would split up for the exploration.
Before they departed, Kui Yi reminded the other group not to split up, no matter what. Based on his experience, the day was safer but only relatively. There was no absolute safety in the nightmare. Real danger came when one least expected it. Jiang Cheng nodded and tossed an admiring gaze at Kui Yi. The latter was so embarrassed that he scratched his nose. After all, they still had plenty of time and no lead.
“Mr Jiang.” Du Feng looked around. “This place is so deserted.” Jiang Cheng noticed that even though the hospital was huge, most of the sickbays were empty. However, that was not what the nurse told them yesterday. The nurse said that they had been swamped, and it was Director Qi who pulled the strings to arrange extra rooms for them. The nurse had no reason to lie to them. This was Director Qi’s idea. The man… was highly suspicious.
Jiang Cheng suspected that the ghost was someone Director Qi had murdered. They came back to seek revenge. This mission felt familiar. It reminded him of the mission at the Little Ravine Village. Perhaps Director Qi only got them there to be his scapegoats.
He thought back to the direction the ghost had disappeared last night. Jiang Cheng suspected there were issues with the abandoned rooms on the sixth floor, or else they wouldn’t be locked. However, opening them rashly might cause horrible results. He planned to do more after he found out more about the hospital. Since the ghost appeared at the hospital, they might be a patient or a member of the staff when they were still alive. However, their head was gone. Something must have happened. Jiang Cheng planned to probe the people at the hospital. If a beheading happened at the hospital, it would be impossible to hide.
“What… are you doing?” As they turned the corner on the fourth floor, they were greeted by a question. They looked up, and not far behind them was a woman dressed like a nurse. The woman wore an old-fashioned mask and held a medical tray with medical bandages, needles and several white bottles. The woman had been watching them for half a month. She found them suspicious.
The leading young man stuck to the wall and would glance into every door he passed. That was too suspicious. The hospital was often a victim of thievery, so the staff was very alarmed.
“I was asking you a question.” Since no one answered her, the nurse removed her mask to reveal a young face. She looked around 20. She had great skin. Her large eyes blinked. She had a cute face but a stern countenance.
“We’re from Room 209.” Jiang Cheng accurately gave the room number of Kui Yi’s group. The nurse was stunned. Then, her sternness disappeared without a trace. She became embarrassed. Du Feng was confused.
“I’m sorry.” The nurse offered, “There are a few nurses on duty now. I was doing something else. So… I will go.” Jiang Cheng soon found out this was the nurse Director Qi ordered to help Lee Kaifeng. Jiang Cheng offered to help her carry the tray, but she rejected him.
Along the way, they chatted happily. Jiang Cheng offered to read the girl’s palm. Du Feng and Lin Wan ‘Er followed them. They walked to Room 209. Seeing how happy the pair was, Du Feng had to glance at Lin Wan ‘Er. He realised Lin Wan ‘Er didn’t care.
Jiang Cheng knocked on the door and walked in. A horrible smell hit him. Wang Changguo leaned on the wall and smoked. Weiwei sat beside Lee Kaifeng’s bed to look after her.
However, the next second, Jiang Cheng’s eyes froze. He was… an IV drip beside Lee Kaifeng. When Wang Changguo saw the nurse behind Jiang Cheng, he asked, “Why? Does she need another shot?”
Jiang Cheng instantly turned around to block the nurse. He smiled. “I’m sorry. I forgot to tell you. Director Qi has already sent over another nurse to set up everything since you haven’t come for a long time.” 𝘳аɴօ𝖇ЁS̈
