Chapter 24: Bedroom
KIAN
If Andreas weren’t here, I would have laughed my butt off when Laim face-planted himself. His cheeks and the tip of his ear are so red it makes him look even more adorable than he already is.
But I tamp down my instincts and focus on the threat at hand right now. Andreas is a S-ranked adventurer from one of the prominent guilds in the capital. I know because I have done my share of research before dragging myself in here.
Despite what I say and show, I am pretty serious about what I do. I am the commander of the imperial army after all.
I have taken down Andreas, but it isn’t enough. He has fired his gun, and I am pretty sure that the guards are on their way here. This estate has over a hundred guards, and it has a tight-as-hell security system. I would say this place is even more heavily guarded than my fortress if my fortress didn’t have an additional layer of magic circle over it to prevent any unauthorized entries.
"You can use a gun?" I look at Lain briefly out of the corner of my eyes before going forward and picking up the gun from the floor.
Lain looks at the gun, scanning and calculating, "No...but I can try."
I can’t tell if he is lying or speaking the truth, but I am not just letting him take control of something this lethal so easily.
"Listen, Cherry," I drawl, my ears sharp for any movements or footsteps outside. I can sense them approaching, fast and deliberate. There are at least a dozen guards, all armed, not that I care. "If the barrel of this gun turns to me, I am going to kill you without a second thought." My voice is not loud; it is calm and collected, yet it carries a tremendous amount of commanding aura that can make even the steel bend.
I don’t bluff; I know this as well as Lain. He doesn’t show any visible reaction but I can see the gears in his mind switching positions and creaking into motion.
So, he
did
think of turning the barrel at me.
This thought makes the corner of my lip twitch upward but I keep it pressed into a thin line.
He nods. And I hand him the gun.
"Crystal said he has her Saber." Lain inclines his head toward Andreas, who is now coughing out blood, struggling futilely and painfully against the force of my gravity. If he had brains in his thick head, he should’ve known that struggling is making it even harder for him. But I am not going to tell him that. I don’t do anything out of goodwill.
"She needs her Saber?" I arch an eyebrow.
Lain nods simply and I couch down on the floor before Andreas. I lift my magic from him.
"I will ask him about it." I don’t take my eyes off Andreas as he sits up, coughing and breathing furiously. His eyes are sickeningly wide and red. "You take care of the guards."
I have given Lain the gun for a reason. It is not like I can’t use a gun myself. It is just that I don’t want to. One bullet from me can blast off a completely fine and bulky man’s upper half and leave only the legs behind. It is a messy tactic. Because it splatters too much blood and ruins my outfit. Other than that I have worn my seamless black suit for this mission. It is a piece of art, and I would be damned if it is ruined.
I don’t need to look up at Lain to know that he just nods and lifts his right hand and points it at the door, alarmed as his left one is bound with me.
I shift my attention to Andreas and offer him a polite smile, but my eyes are anything but that, "So, Mr. Norlen, mind telling us where Crystal’s Saber is?"
Hostility is rolling off him in waves as he glares at me, his jaw clenched and the veins in his forehead bulging. It is rather an ugly sight. "I am not telling you." He grits out through his clenched teeth. He is clenching his teeth so hard and tightly that I am pretty sure that he will break his jaw before I can even touch him. Good for me anyway.
I chuckle, "You won’t?" I reach out and knock on his wrist lightly, putting a little amount of my mana in it. It instantly crushes to the ground with an unnerving cracking noise. "Now tell me."
Andreas groans and screams in agony as his wrist breaks like a crispy chip.
Lain winches, and just that, the guards start to pour in through the door. Lain doesn’t delay as he pulls the trigger. The bullet leaves the barrel with a heart-shattering sound and force. Lain’s hand jerks from the impact. The bullet hits right at one of the guard’s foreheads, and to my surprise, it blows up the guard’s head alongside his shoulders the moment it touches his skin.
The blood splashes and splatters around. A few drops of blood touch my suit, and I grimace.
Seriously?
Aside from that, I didn’t expect Lain to have enough mana to make such an impact by firing the bullet. I clearly remember him telling me that his mana was weak. My eyes sharpen in suspicion. But I will confirm it later. Let me first deal with the matter in my hands.
Lain continues to shoot—blow down every guard as I shift my eyes back to Andreas, who is still wheezing and groaning in pain and agony. I can see drops of blood trailing down his arm, "Spill it, Andreas. I don’t have time to mess with you right now." My tone is sharper and full of warning this time.
The sound of the gun is ringing against my earbuds and it is making it hard to hear anything. I almost miss the words falling from Andreas’s lips as he says,
"My bedroom."
