Obsessed to Hate Him-Chapter 39: Disappointment

Chapter 39

Chapter 39: Disappointment
LAIN
By the time we land on the rooftop of the Norlen estate, I am a mess. I run to the side of the rooftop, double over, and throw my guts out, my face turning green to purple to who knows what color. My face is changing colors as I throw everything out. Thankfully I didn’t eat breakfast, nor it would have been a big mess I am not willing to deal with.
Crystal walks to me with unhurried steps and stands beside me with an expressionless face, "You are okay, master?" Her mouth barely moves as she checks up on my well-being.
"Fuck off," I curse as I continue to get sick.
"A prince shouldn’t curse, master." She reminds me blankly and I instantly regret making her my familiar.
"Will you shut up for a damn second?" I hiss at her.
And she shuts up for the Gods’ sake.
I straighten up when I am done getting sick, and I’m pretty sure nothing will come out anymore. I run my freezing fingers through my disheveled hair as I breathe in through my nose and breathe out through my mouth.
Crystal’s possession over my body has taken a toll on it. My body is now freakishly cold, just like a corpse.
"Go down and look for any potential threat," I order when I calm down enough to let my head function again though I can still feel the slightly restless beating of my heart inside my chest.
"Yes, master." Crystal gives me a curt nod before disappearing.
The rooftop instantly starts to warm up. I am thankful that the sun is still high up the horizon. I use my time to warm myself and run my brain over how to sneak back inside the fortress without anyone noticing me. It was a miracle that Crystal’s plan actually worked, and we got out without taking care of more guards than three. It would be suspicious otherwise.
But the miracle is a one-time thing, and the God of Luck doesn’t really like me all that much to let me get too lucky even if I am borrowing my ghost familiar’s luck.
Crystal returns shortly. And I look at her expectantly.
"It appears that the Norlens have moved out of here after the massacre." She replies simply, "A few guards are patrolling the grounds and the main floor, but there is no one up here. It is safe to say, there is no potential threat."
I nod in acknowledgment and start to make my way to Andreas’ bedroom. Crystal is following me all the way. I have memorized the layout to go there the last time I was here with Kian. A few hallways are still blood-strained and the heavy stance of the blood still lingers in the air. I ignore them and approach the hidden passageway.
I push open the door to Andreas’ secret study. Crystal and I immediately get to work, but to our great disappointment, the study has been cleaned off. It means that Andreas’ family knew about his little secret spot. Or they are too involved in this. Whatever the case is, I can’t get anything useful in my hand. Not even the name of the cult.
I click my tongue as distraught ripples through me. I have risked it all and sneaked out of the fortress under Kian’s watch just to fail this miserably.
I am too consumed with my thoughts on the way back to the fortress that I don’t find it in me to scream and throw a tantrum over the sky-ride despite the rumbling of my heart and the whirlpool in my stomach. But I take note of buying flying goggles.
Nothing is going according to the plan and it is wearing me down. But the most dangerous thing I encounter once I am in the fortress is Kian.
Gratefully, there is only one guard under the window to Kian’s bedroom, so he doesn’t notice me. Other than that, the sun is setting, so it is pretty dark outside right now.
But I stop before the window and instantly duck behind the wall. Kian is standing in the doorframe of the room. My heart sinks to my stomach and my breathing is heavy.
Kian seemingly notices the short movement outside the window so he starts to approach the window.
"What should we do?!"
I urge Crystal impatiently.
"Do you have clothes on under your suit, master?"
She replies.
"No."
I want to slap myself for being this careless.
I am sure Kian is a rumbling volcano at this point because he does not find me in his room.
"Master, can you show me the bathroom? I can take you there and you can pretend that you were showering."
Crystal instantly comes up with something though she sounds like her forever-blank self.
"Good idea."
I then start to guide her to where the bathroom is. Just the moment we leave the window side, Kian swings open the window and looks outside, his gaze sharp and narrowed, his jaw tight. He is clearly pissed.
My stomach drops further and my face is drained of blood at the sight. If Kian catches me right now...I am dead for sure.
But it seems like Crystal has great luck because we somehow successfully sneak into the bathroom without anyone noticing.
I should go to the temple of God of Luck after this and thank her for this.
Crystal instantly leaves afterward. And I start to undress. I take a hot shower to clear my head. What excuse should I make this time after Kian finds me? Should I go and find him myself, or I let him find me?
Either way, he is going to be super mad. But I will just tell him that I was taking a shower and be done with it. He doesn’t have any evidence to prove that I left the fortress.
I get out of the bathtub and wrap a towel around my waist. I start to dry myself with a towel, and suddenly, the door of the bathroom swings open, and I startle. My eyes meet with a pair of cool blue ones. A shiver wrecks through me.
Kian...
