Obsessed to Hate Him-Chapter 46: Unexpected

Chapter 46

Chapter 46: Unexpected
LIAM
There is a difference—a very big one—between
anticipating
that your own blood brother is involved in something shady and
knowing
it.
I was just blabbering about how it would be a miracle if this cult happened to be the one I was looking for. But I didn’t expect it to be the one. I was assuming and blabbering who knew that the God of Luck actually took it seriously and caused the miracle.
Honestly, I actually didn’t want it to happen. No matter how distant I was from my brother, Oliver, I never wanted him to be involved in something that would end up getting back at him as well as our Kingdom. At this point, I don’t even dare to continue this investigation. I am scared of what I find out from all the digging.
But everything freezes when the priest of the cult introduces himself. Isn’t Saint Christopher Oliver’s name that he uses to do all these things? Why is this man telling me otherwise? My brain goes into a spiral as it starts to comprehend what is happening here.
Can it be that I misread the whole situation? That this Saint guy just happened to have the same handwriting as my brother? That’s absurd. How can a person have the same handwriting as another person?
What the fuck in the world is happening here?
This is a question no one will give me until I look into it and find it out myself. Crystal has done her fill by digging into the Norlens’ new mention and fishing out the name of the cult for me. I didn’t tell her to do it. But she did it anyway and I am actually torn between being grudging or grateful. I was happier when I was oblivious.
It is a little complicated how I feel right now. But I can’t stray from my path so I keep a sharp eye on the priest and the nun as they give us a tour of the eerie cathedral.
"Where are the children?" Kian asks, his voice dropping ever so slightly that it is barely detectable. Anyone who is an outsider or doesn’t know Kian well enough, wouldn’t be able to catch the slight chilliness of his voice.
I keep my expression smooth as I wait for the priest to answer. I, too, am curious about what happened to the kids who went missing.
However, Christopher’s expression is impressive, and his smile doesn’t wane, his eyes crescent as he answers, "The children are out to help the villagers with their daily lives. The snow is thicker today, so they are helping out by cleaning the streets. What a delightful initiative, don’t you agree, Supreme Commander?"
I tamp down my attempt to frown my eyebrows at his remark. I feel there is something amiss in his statement. I want to tell Kian to confirm it with the villagers, but I know I don’t have to. Kian knows what he is doing.
"Indeed it is." The corner of Kian’s lips quirks up as he assesses the priest.
The tour ends soon with no potential hint of a clue. Not that we expected any in the first place. Talking to Christopher, he seems like a very cautious guy. Even if we know that there are holes in his story, we can’t just pin him down based on that. We need solid evidence to pin anything on him at all. And he knows that as well as we do. This is what it makes more difficult from now on.
I need to look into this guy personally to find out who he actually is. And how he is related to Oliver. I know he wouldn’t spell it out himself so I have to force it out myself. But the question is, how?
"This whole thing doesn’t fit right," Jennifer says, leaning against a black bar in the veranda of the cathedral.
After giving us a tour of the cathedral, the nun and the priest left us on our own and excused themselves for some important business.
"I know it doesn’t." Kian acknowledges as his eyes drift to me for a brief moment before they return to Jennifer.
"So what will you do?" I ask, wrapping my one arm over another as I feel a sudden chill run down my spine as if someone is watching me. The hair on my neck stands on end as I instructively look around.
The corner of Kian’s lips is up and he looks competitive as he sweeps his gaze around the empty veranda. A group of cheerful nuns round the corner as they chat among themselves. Their eyes fall on us, and all of them blush.
Wow, as expected from nuns.
These nuns seem to be new requites from the cult as they seem very young and cheerful, in stark contrast to what we have seen inside.
Kian leans in so that he can whisper to Jennifer and my ears. His voice a little husky and filled with mischief, "Let’s see if I can fill in one of the nuns and get information out of her." He straightens up and winks at me before he walks over to the group of nuns.
Irritation ripples through me as I watch him woo the nun and sends the other off so that the nun he just now wooed can lead him to somewhere they can fuck.
Seriously?
Aren’t nuns supposed to be pure from body and mind so that they can wholeheartedly worship their God? Or other bullshit? Then why is this nun agreeing to go with Kian? And what did even the bastard say that it didn’t take even a proper minute to whisk her off her feet?
I frown at the situation, so hard that I wrinkle my smooth forehead. Jennifer snorts.
"Maybe I should get a nun to fool around as well." She says jokingly as she straightens.
I give her a look, "You are an old hag."
She shrugs it off, "Who cares as long as I am beautiful and young?"
I heave a sigh as I rub my temple.
This is going to be a hell of an investigation.
