One Piece: Hell Pirates-Chapter 310: The Situation at God Valley

Chapter 310

Uranus seemed to be provoking Brook on purpose, its cannons never once stopping as it rained destruction down on the forces of the Hell Pirates.
Far away in the deepest shadows behind the Empty Throne in the Holy Land of Mary Geoise, Imu watched and smiled.
He liked this part.
Every few generations, there would be some so called challenger who clawed their way up with a bit of strength and influence, then actually dared to bare their fangs at the World Government.
Most died without ever making it past the navy.
Very few even forced the Knights of God to appear. Almost none pushed the Five Elders into the open.
This era was different.
In just over ten years, that man, Brook, had gathered terrifying power. Through war after war and a web of schemes, he had battered the navy into retreat, killed a fleet admiral and two admirals, and even wiped out more than half of the Knights of God.
Five God Knights dead. Four of Imu’s trusted Five Elders forced to move in person.
As for Rocks, that monster refused to fade, and still tried to climb back to the top.
Imu had to admit it.
These two little pirates, Brook and Rocks, were the most troublesome enemies to appear in the last seven or eight hundred years.
But pirates were pirates.
No matter how huge an overlord crew became, it always circled one core, the captain. Cut off the head, and the body rotted on its own.
As long as the captain died, the pirate crew would fall apart.
In Imu’s script, Rocks would be beaten half to death, forced to scatter his crew. The Rocks Pirates would dissolve.
Roger was already marked. The hidden piece Imu had planted on his ship had been exposed ahead of schedule, so the dosage had been adjusted. Roger’s body was riddled with poison. He would live a few more years at most before dying of a “mysterious illness,” and the Roger Pirates would also scatter.
Brook, however, was different.
Imu knew this man carried a form of immortality. So he had prepared something special, a luxurious cage, a prison tailored just for Brook.
Imu did not intend to kill him quickly.
He would wear him down.
As long as the Hell Pirates lost their irreplaceable core, Brook, this so called strongest pirate crew in the world would fracture soon enough.
So many people with Conqueror’s Haki, so many monsters with ambition. It made them terrifying when united, but it also meant that once the king vanished, every one of those kings to be would set off on their own.
The New World would return to chaos, fragmented, war torn.
The navy would march back into those member countries and reclaim them one by one.
And Imu would continue watching from above, letting these ants tear each other apart to fill his long years with a bit of entertainment.
He shook his head with a soft, contemptuous laugh.
This little man, Brook, actually wanted to settle things personally?
Wishful thinking.
Aside from the divine power of the Sun God Nika, no one could force Imu to leave Pangaea Castle. This entire world, from his point of view, was a board and he was the hand that moved every piece.
Speaking of which.
The eight hundred year mark hinted at in Joy Boy’s prophecy was approaching.
Would the Nika Fruit with its own will choose to appear in the next era?
Imu’s eyes narrowed, then turned back to the current game. Uranus continued to sweep the battlefield. Peter and Ethanbaron had already worn away a good portion of Brook’s stamina.
Now it was time for Uranus to grind him down further and close the net.
On the other side, Brook was forcing himself closer and closer to Uranus, but the ancient weapon’s speed remained overwhelming.
How many Celestial Dragons had that immortal monster sacrificed this time?
Only with that level of fuel could Uranus sustain such relentless bombardment, trading blows with Pluton while still finding time to massacre so many of Brook’s subordinates.
Unforgivable.
Then again, Pluton had slaughtered a great many of the World Government’s soldiers in return. CP0 through CP9 would need a complete reshuffle after this war, and the Knights of God had already been mostly replaced. The cipher pol organizations were not going to be spared.
Once more, the Hell Pirates’ battlefield had become a meat grinder. Lives vanished by the second, bodies falling and sinking until the sea turned a deeper red.
···
On the God Valley front, overall casualties were not as wildly high as in Brook’s sky battlefield, but the death toll among top tier fighters was even more horrifying.
John had not expected this.
Captain Rocks had given the order to fight to the death.
Wang Zhi, loyal to a fault, and Silver Axe, too simple minded to question anything, were both throwing themselves into battle like madmen, ignoring their own lives entirely.
Watching them, a chill crept into Captain John’s heart.
His thoughts were complicated, twisted. His courage, however, was not.
He began to deliberately hold back his strength. The giant female warrior Jennifer, in her double winged unicorn form, became the vanguard facing Black Arm Zephyr. She took the brunt of every clash and was quickly covered in wounds.
Silver Axe, transformed by the Titan Giant Ape Fruit, was nearly blasted apart by the golden shock waves of Buddha Sengoku. The ape giant looked like he could collapse at any moment.
Only Rocks’ madness kept the battlefield from collapsing outright.
Time after time, the sky above God Valley was swallowed by darkness. The Dark Dark Fruit’s power surged, and every Devil Fruit user on the field felt their abilities falter and twist.
After enduring suppression for so long, Rocks finally exploded.
He let Steel Bone Kong’s fist smash into him so he could step in and hammer his own punch straight into the head of the God Knight Mahon, caving in the skull with brute force. Mahon did not even have time to use his Withering Fruit to steal more before his consciousness shattered.
But that last desperate counterattack still landed.
The Withering Fruit’s had already sunk its hooks into Rocks’ body, ripping away years of life in an instant and leaving his flesh and hair shriveled with age.
Rocks only laughed.
He did not care how many years were stripped from him.
Even with grey hair and a body gnawed on by decay, he bared his teeth and roared, calling up the secret techniques of the D clan and dragging the power of the Dark Dark Fruit to its very limit, swallowing and purging the withering that clung to his body.
Three opponents at admiral level, besieging one man.
Yet even three on one could not bring Rocks down.
Fleet Admiral Kong and the God Knight Michael could not suppress him. They could only struggle to keep his rampage contained.
Michael, wielder of the top tier Paramecia Word Spirit Fruit, had to constantly watch his step. If he was dragged into contact range by the Dark Dark Fruit, a single mistake would end with his head crushed just like Mahon’s.
Then came the scream.
Silver Axe was finally killed, his Titan Ape form torn apart entirely by one of Buddha Sengoku’s overwhelming shock waves.
But Sengoku himself was badly injured in that same exchange.
Driven by anger and duty, he tried to force his way into the main battlefield where Rocks, Kong, and Michael clashed. The moment he crossed that line, Rocks’ killing intent enveloped him.
If Kong had not thrown everything aside to save him, Sengoku would already have met the Buddha he worshiped.
Even with that rescue, Sengoku’s combat effectiveness was completely gone. He was dragged from the battlefield by Tsuru, bloodied and bruised, just barely snatched back from death.
Watching Silver Axe’s broken body fall, Captain John’s desire to escape grew stronger.
He glanced at Jennifer, her massive form wrapped in white wings and a unicorn’s horn, and for an instant considered inviting her to flee together.
Then he remembered how loyal she was to Rocks.
His eyes went cold.
If she would not run with him, she could become his shield instead.
“Jennifer, I am going to fight with everything I have!” John shouted as he turned.
The giant woman roared, blood boiling hot. She burned her life and dove at Black Arm Zephyr, charging with suicidal fury.
But she never received the support she expected.
John was gone from their battlefield.
Realizing she had been abandoned, Jennifer cursed John as a traitor through gritted teeth. Her strength was slightly below his to begin with, and battling Zephyr one on one pushed her to the limit.
Even so, Zephyr did not chase her down immediately.
While trading blows in mid air, he shifted their path, edging the fight toward another disturbance on the field.
With a sudden burst of power, he dragged the fused Karnz brothers and Eric Dane, who were slaughtering marines nearby, into his range and forced them into his battle.
One vice admiral, three powerful pirates.
Zephyr chose to fight all three at once, determined to relieve the pressure on the other marine officers.
Elsewhere, the great swordsman Wang Zhi, wielding the supreme blade Great Emperor Codex, clashed with the God Knight Mintaro.
Their duel was brutally even.
Steel rang on steel as blade and blade collided, both men cut and bloodied from head to toe, neither willing to step back even half a pace.
------------
Seeing Silver Axe’s corpse and hearing the news that Captain John had fled, Rocks finally snapped.
Silver Axe’s Titan Ape Fruit was gone.
God Knight Mahon’s Withering Fruit was gone.
Even if they won this war, the Rocks Pirates would not harvest many new powers, unless the Five Elders and World Government forces managed to slaughter a large portion of Brook’s Hell Pirates. Only then would Rocks have enough breathing room to rebuild.
His bloodshot gaze locked onto the God Knight Michael.
He had to seize that Word Spirit Fruit, and he wanted the Great Buddha Fruit from Buddha Sengoku as well.
If he could claim both, then even if the Hell Pirates were not completely annihilated, as long as two or three of their top brass fell, the Rocks Pirates would still have a path back to the summit.
Right now, Brook was drawing the Five Elders and Uranus away.
If Rocks won here, and Brook lost there, the entire New World could still flip.
Rocks would not let go of that final sliver of hope.
At this moment, he even found himself hoping the World Government would fight harder, hard enough to truly wound the Hell Pirates.
Of course, his true ideal outcome was different.
Let the World Government and the Hell Pirates destroy each other.
Then he would rise again from the chaos, dominate the New World, and set his sights on the world itself.
“Kong, go to hell!”
Awakening, Dark Cage.
Rocks gripped his supreme blade, the Sword of Xebec, in his right hand. His left turned into a devouring black hole, radiating endless pull.
The ground beneath his feet liquefied into darkness.
A tide of black matter spread from the center of God Valley, racing out in all directions and climbing into the sky like an inverted sea.
Slowly, the entire island was swallowed by the dark.
Rocks had once boasted that he alone could destroy an island.
This was not empty talk.
He believed he was in no way inferior to ancient weapons.
Iron Fist Garp, who had been trading blows with Roger, stopped his fists on his own.
He stared up at the sky, watching the strange darkness spread and thicken, his brows knitting together.
Rocks truly was the strongest monster of the New World. Even under the combined assault of Kong and three God Knights, he had not fallen. Instead, he unleashed such a terrifying, large scale ability.
“Haha, Garp! Hurry up and save your fleet admiral! We can finish our fight later!”
Roger laughed, but there was no ease in his eyes.
He was afraid of Rocks’ power too.
Right now, all he wanted was to get himself and his crew out of this cursed place.
“Captain! This black stuff can eat us!”
The shipwright Blumarine rushed back, face pale.
“The dark sky at the shore is brutal. I couldn’t cut through it at all. Half my steel blade got swallowed the moment it touched!”
With his strength, if he could not even scratch it, it meant the dark shell around the island was monstrous in both scale and hardness.
“How can there be such a strong trapping ability?”
Roger refused to believe anything was truly unbreakable.
There was no perfect defense. If there was, it only meant the attacker wasn’t strong enough.
String String Fruit’s birdcage, Dark Dark Fruit’s cage of darkness, Barrier Fruit’s absolute wall, whatever the form, it all came down to whether your power could overwhelm it or not.
He watched the darkness at his feet devour buildings and stone, sinking the island bit by bit. His expression grew more serious.
Garp, too, hesitated.
Should he obey Kong’s original order and continue trying to capture the Roger Pirates?
Or abandon that mission and rush to support the fleet admiral instead?
“Ahhhh! Roger! I’ll let you go one more time today! Move it! We’re going to support the Fleet Admiral!”
Vice Admiral Garp roared, making his choice.
With a single command, he openly disobeyed orders and led the marines under him charging toward the main battlefield, leaving the Roger Pirates behind.
The other vice admirals and rear admirals exchanged glances.
They could only grit their teeth and follow Garp, rushing after him toward Rocks.
Behind them, the Roger Pirates stood stunned.
Then cheering erupted through their battered ranks.
Their insane plan, luring the Rocks Pirates into God Valley to shake off the pursuit, had worked.
They had pulled it off without even suffering heavy casualties. Only seven or eight crewmates were seriously injured.
“Rayleigh, get everyone aboard. We break through that dark shell, understand? I’ll go take a look first.”
It was hard to say whether Roger had lost his mind or was just being himself again.
Instead of escaping with his crew, he wanted to dive into the main battlefield to watch the chaos up close.
“Roger! What nonsense are you spewing!”
Rayleigh jumped up in fury and smacked Roger across the head, veins bulging.
Heading back into the center of that madness was suicide.
“I’m going alone, don’t worry! I’ll come back!”
Roger hissed from the pain, tears pricking at the corners of his eyes, but he still flashed that familiar grin and dashed off after Garp and the others, ignoring his crew’s frantic shouts.
Grinding his teeth, Rayleigh could only swallow his rage.
He drew his blade, coated it in Haki, and sliced open a gap in the sky of darkness.
“On the ship! Move!”
Under his lead, the Roger Pirates rushed through the tear toward the Oro Jackson, fleeing the island while their idiot captain ran the opposite way.
···
In the heart of God Valley, the main battlefield was a living nightmare.
Within the Dark Cage, Rocks had become a walking abyss.
Even his hair had turned into black mist, trailing and dissolving into the void. His eyes gleamed a bloody crimson. Once again, he activated the D clan’s secret art, burning away one or two more years of his own life to drag his body back to its absolute peak.
Kong and God Knight Michael were both sent flying by his rampage, vomiting blood.
Under that overwhelming Conqueror’s Haki and the unnatural power of the Dark Dark Fruit, the two admiral level powerhouses simply could not halt the godlike Rocks.
“Hahahaha! I will stand at the very top of this world!”
Rocks could see victory now.
As long as he killed Kong and stole Michael’s Devil Fruit, everything would change.
Seeing Kong and Michael in such dire straits, the God Knight Mintaro tried desperately to break away from Wang Zhi, but the great swordsman only tightened his Bind Bind Fruit chains, refusing to give him even half a step.
Black Arm Zephyr also wanted to rush to Kong’s aid, but he was locked down by three opponents at once, the wounded giant warrior Jennifer and the other giant fighters.
Three or four vice admirals, their faces twisted with resolve, bellowed and charged at Rocks to block his path.
They were crushed almost instantly, bodies shattered or sent hurtling across the battlefield.
But their sacrifice still delayed Rocks’ secret art for a heartbeat.
It was enough to make him grind his teeth in rage.
He needed to kill Kong and Michael now, while his power was at its peak.
“Sixth Shikigami Secret Art, Black Gold Steel Body!”
Kong coughed blood, his chest a mess of broken bone and torn flesh. Rocks’ Conqueror’s Haki infusion was too terrifying. Even with his strongest Armament Haki, he could not fully block it, and his internal injuries were severe.
The vitality and physical toughness of the D clan were monstrous.
They had been pounding Rocks for so long, even sacrificing God Knight Mahon to land a critical injury, and yet he kept “sitting back up,” again and again, slamming into them like an unkillable demon.
“Awakening, Word Spirit, Break!”
The strongest God Knight, Michael, screamed, blood streaming from his lips.
In that instant, he poured every last shred of strength into his Word Spirit Fruit, even overdrawing his own life, desperate to carve a crack in the darkness that was swallowing God Valley whole.
