Shinobu
Shinobu felt the familiar cool breeze of teleportation envelop her as Alex transported them back to the Butterfly Mansion. The opulent entrance hall came into view, its ornate decor and intricate tapestries a stark contrast to the destruction they had left behind at the temple. She leaned into Alex’s embrace, her body still weak from her grievous wounds and the exertion of the battle.
As Alex carried her inside, Shinobu kept her gaze lowered, a rosy hue coloring her pale cheeks. She could feel the heat of his body against hers, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. It was strangely comforting—more so than it should have been. She pushed away the thought, not wanting to dwell on the unfamiliar emotions stirring within her.
"I suppose I should thank you," Shinobu murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. "For patching me up and bringing me back here."
Alex smirked at her words, his grip on her tightening slightly. "You don’t have to thank me, Shinobu. I did what I had to do."
He carried her up the grand staircase, his footsteps echoing through the cavernous foyer. Shinobu remained silent, her mind a whirlwind of thoughts and memories. The Butterfly Mansion, once a place of joy and laughter, now felt hollow and empty. Only the ghosts of her past lingered within these walls, the echoes of Kanae’s voice forever silenced.
Alex brought her to one of the guest rooms, a lavishly appointed chamber with a large canopy bed draped in silken curtains. He laid her down gently, his hands lingering on her arms for a moment before he stepped back.
"Rest now," he commanded, his voice soft but firm. "You’ve been through a lot."
Shinobu nodded, her eyelids growing heavy as exhaustion caught up to her. She let out a shuddering sigh, the events of the day weighing down on her like a physical burden. The battle, the loss of her comrades, the final confrontation with Doma... it was all too much to process.
Because Alex has used magic on her to heal her, Shinobu didn’t need rest, but Alex still insisted.
As she drifted off to a fitful sleep, Shinobu couldn’t shake the feeling that her life had changed irrevocably. She had achieved her revenge, but at what cost? The pain of losing Kanae and her loved ones would never truly fade, but perhaps it was time to start living again.
And yet, even as she slept, she couldn’t ignore the nagging sensation that her fate, for better or worse, was now entwined with Alex’s. The demon who had once been her enemy was now... something else. A friend? A partner? She wasn’t sure, but one thing was certain: her life would never be the same.
As she slept, her brows furrowed in thought; even in slumber, her mind raced. The promise she had made to Alex lingered at the forefront of her thoughts.
She also remembered how Akeno warned her that she would become Alex’s lover if she let her guard down.
It went against everything she had once believed in, everything she had fought against. But now, with Doma defeated and her vengeance complete, what did her future hold?
Shinobu tossed and turned, the silken sheets tangling around her legs as she muttered incoherently. The room was quiet, save for the gentle rustling of fabric and the faint sounds of Alex moving about nearby. She could feel his presence, a comforting warmth that both unnerved and soothed her.
Finally, after what felt like hours, Shinobu awoke with a start, sitting up abruptly in the grand bed. She blinked away the remnants of sleep, her violet eyes adjusting to the dimly lit room. Her body ached, a dull throb that served as a reminder of the battle she had fought and won.
Rubbing her eyes, Shinobu swung her legs over the side of the bed and stood, her bare feet sinking into the plush carpet. She walked over to the window, gazing out at the sprawling gardens of the Butterfly Mansion. The sun was setting, casting an orange and pink glow over the manicured lawns and carefully tended flowers.
As she watched the day turn to dusk, Shinobu couldn’t shake the feeling that a new Chapter of her life was just beginning. One where she would stand by Alex’s side, not as an enemy but as an ally.
It was daunting, uncertain, and yet... there was a strange sense of rightness to it all. As if the universe had always intended for their paths to cross.
Shinobu turned away from the window, her gaze falling upon Alex as he entered the room. She met his eyes, a mix of determination and trepidation in her own.
"I suppose I should keep my promise, shouldn’t I?" Shinobu said, her voice still rough from sleep.
"Well yeah, since now you can’t use the old excuse to put a distance between us." Alex said with a smile as he came close to her.
