The patient stared at the broken chain, frozen like he’d been hit by a paralyzing spell—completely still.
His back didn’t ache, his legs didn’t hurt, and even his mental illness seemed miraculously cured. The guy who was just trying to kill Lu Ce like a maniac? It was like he’d never existed.
“Bro, I was just messing with you earlier. No hard feelings, yeah?”
【: F*ck! What just happened?】
【: Here we go, here we go—top-tier brute force. This guy’s last game already blew my mind.】
【: He could’ve just gone on a rampage, but no, he had to perfectly blend in as a mental patient.】
【: Honestly, I’d already heard about this guy’s ‘illness’ from the last game. Coming to the asylum probably feels like going home for him.】
The skinny patient stood there awkwardly, stiff from head to toe, like he had no clue what to do next.
He’d lost a chain, but something even more unbreakable held him down—Lu Ce’s hand still gripping his wrist.
In those few seconds, it felt like his nerves had gone numb, and he couldn’t even feel his arm anymore.
Lu Ce let out a slow breath. The violent power inside him calmed slightly, making him feel a bit better.
He released the man’s wrist.
“You… who are you?” Maybe the shock had jolted the patient out of his madness for a bit—he sounded a little more lucid.
“I’m your ward-mate,” Lu Ce replied, sounding no saner himself. The conversation was a total mess.
“…What’s your name?”
“My name’s Guo Degang.”
Patient: ?
It was a normal enough name, but for some reason, it just felt off.
“I’m Long Wu! My name’s Long Wu!”
Lu Ce hadn’t even asked, but Long Wu suddenly blurted it out, shouting like he’d just woken from a dream and finally remembered his own name.
But the clarity in his eyes faded quickly, swallowed up again by confusion and madness. The hand that had gained freedom started twitching.
Strangely, though, he didn’t attack Lu Ce, who was right in front of him. Instead, he began whipping his chains at the walls and floor.
From the outside, it just looked like a rage-fueled tantrum.
【Breakfast time is over. All players, return to your designated correction area.】
【Breakfast time is over...】
The Game Time announcement suddenly boomed, echoing through the prison-like asylum.
“Oh, the class bell rang. Guess it’s time to head back.”
Lu Ce muttered to himself, not bothering to look at the patient who’d started losing it again, and casually walked out.
But just as he was about to leave, a loud **bang** echoed behind him.
“Go…”
Lu Ce turned slowly.
What he saw was Long Wu collapsed on the ground.
His eyes were bloodshot, veins bulging across his face, his skin purple. He’d smashed his head into the floor, blood slowly oozing from his brow.
With his torn clothes and body covered in blood, he looked like someone who’d been tortured in prison for a decade.
Seeing Lu Ce turn, Long Wu stared back with reddened eyes, gritting his teeth to squeeze out a few words:
“Go… get out of here!”
“If you don’t leave… you’ll end up just like me!”
Lu Ce stayed silent for a few seconds. He bent down slightly, looked at Long Wu, and the mask on his face twisted into a strange grin. (‾◡◝)
With a playful tone, he said:
“Sir, between us… what’s the difference now?”
“You’ll still treat me to lunch, right?”
His words were like a stream of ice water, pouring from the top of Long Wu’s head, sending a chill through his entire body.
After that, Lu Ce straightened up and walked out of the ward.
......
**Bang!**
A loud noise. The main door slammed shut.
Everyone returned to the starting room—still five people, no more, no less.
But no one looked too good. Judging by their expressions, none of them made any real progress with their game task.
The only female Player looked pale, clearly frightened. And that big guy from earlier? He was actually injured!
His right arm was soaked in blood, loosely wrapped with his shirt. Blood was still seeping through the fabric!
【Alright, Players. The first Game Time has officially ended. Are you starting to adjust yet?】
A mechanical voice rang out—it was Tom speaking. He was also in the room now.
【Feel free to talk among yourselves. Share any insights while we wait for the next meal.】
【Of course, if anyone thinks they’ve found the sickest patient, you’re welcome to tell me at any time.】
【You are now free to act.】
After that, Tom rolled to a corner on his treads and stopped moving—like he’d powered down into standby mode.
“Cao! F*ck this d*mn game!” someone suddenly roared. It was the Big Guy, sweating bullets as he tightly gripped his bloody arm.
“What the hell is this place? An asylum? These things aren’t even human!”
He kept cursing, but the fear in his voice was obvious.
Turns out, after entering the ward, he focused solely on completing the task—just wanted to force-feed the medication and get it over with.
He didn’t even spare the tormented patients a second thought. When they refused the meds, he tried to pry their mouths open and shove it down their throats.
That’s when he realized what he was really dealing with—those pitiful-looking patients were like wild beasts. They snapped instantly. He couldn’t even fight back.
If he wasn’t in decent shape from regular workouts, he wouldn’t have escaped. He was this close to dying.
“Yeah, their physical strength is off the charts. Not something you can compare to normal humans,” Jiu Tian chimed in from the side.
“This is a Hell Mode Game. This level of difficulty is expected. Be more cautious. At least they still have chains, and we still have the meds. I suggest everyone share whatever info they have so far.”
“I’ll go first. I noticed something strange. My patient was resistant to the meds at first, but after I talked to him for a bit, he suddenly went nuts and begged for the medicine.”
The woman, face still pale, added right after Jiu Tian:
“Same here. My patient seemed manic at first, wouldn’t eat or take anything, but then suddenly screamed about wanting the meds and swallowed them all. It was really weird.”
“And after they took the meds, that manic energy disappeared—but it was impossible to get any real info out of them. Their minds were totally scrambled…”
Just then, Kirk suddenly stood up.
“I have nothing to say. I just have a question.”
Then he looked at Lu Ce, who was lying on the floor, and said:
“Did you guys know… besides your patients, not a single other person in the entire asylum took their meds this round!”
“Did you eat them all, Mr. Red Mask!?”
Kirk’s last two sentences were in Chinese.
Hearing him, everyone froze—then quickly turned their heads in shock.
None of them knew what had just happened between those two.
