Pain Immunity: Worried the Villains Aren’t Twisted Enough-Chapter 36: Repair, Growth! The Terrifying Power of the Gluttony Mask

Chapter 36

“F
ck! You son of the b
tch! %$#$!”
Kirk immediately exploded with curses. The emotions he’d painstakingly held together completely collapsed—he had never seen a player like this before.
He had just been deep in thought, starting to think maybe this guy actually had some unusual insight.
And then, just as he was getting serious, the guy suddenly hit him with a: “That was breakfast?”
Why the h*ll didn’t you say that was your last meal before execution!?
Still not cured yet, are you?!
Do you even know what time it is?!
He almost coughed up blood in reverse. Kirk’s face turned beet red from anger as he pointed at Lu Ce and started laying into him.
But honestly, he didn’t even know what to say anymore. Investigating a mental hospital, only to find out your teammate’s a mental patient? How the h*ll are you supposed to work with that?
Lu Ce lay on the ground, staring at the furious Kirk like it was their first meeting, curiously asking:
“Oh my god, what’s wrong? Poor Tom? Did that white cat mess with your feelings again?”
【I’m Tom.】
【I’m not poor. And also, call me the Great Tom!】
From the corner, the metal robot that had previously turned its head spoke up seriously, then turned its head back around.
The female player bowed her head speechlessly, feeling a splitting headache coming on.
Big Guy immediately started cursing again as he redid his bandages. He’d been so mad earlier, two more streams of blood had burst out.
The whole scene had turned into a complete farce.
The previously serious atmosphere collapsed in an instant. No one was thinking about medicine or no medicine anymore—it all just felt like the ramblings of a man lost in mental confusion.
Jiu Tian also had a headache. He had been thinking that Lu Ce, being someone extraordinary, would do something unique. He’d really been thinking hard. But now… maybe it’s best to stop overthinking.
Better not follow a lunatic’s logic and end up getting played to death in this Hell Mode Game. That kind of thing really
could
get you killed.
This team is a nightmare to lead...
Still, remembering what his colleague said about Lu Ce’s top-tier combat power—and considering they absolutely couldn’t afford internal conflict—he quickly stepped in to smooth things over:
“Everyone, calm down for a moment. Let’s focus on the game and not fight among ourselves.”
“Hm? Show-Off Guy in Red?” Lu Ce suddenly seemed to recognize Jiu Tian.
Jiu Tian’s face twitched.
Seriously, bro? Aren’t you supposed to be mentally unstable?
How the h*ll do you still remember the nickname
you
gave
me
so clearly?!
“Go f*ck away from me!” Kirk had nothing more to say. He left behind a cold line and walked away from the group to sit farther off.
There was no such thing as a team here. These useless people were either dead weight or, like that lunatic, flat-out liabilities!
He’d just have to plan things out on his own from here.
Lu Ce continued lying on his back like he hadn’t heard a thing, completely immersed in his chaotic world.
Calling Jiu Tian “Show-Off Guy in Red” earlier had been intentional. It was the one bit of responsibility he could offer to the team.
He was trying to send a signal—he hadn’t completely lost his mind!
If he didn’t let his mind slip into chaos, he wouldn’t be able to absorb the bonuses from the Gluttony Mask. So he allowed himself to act erratically, indulging in every irrational impulse.
But deep down, he still clung to the bare minimum of rationality. After all, becoming a complete lunatic and being controlled by the mask—that was unacceptable.
Whether anyone actually picked up on the signal he was sending, whether anyone understood him... that was anyone’s guess.
Right now, he was enjoying it. Experiencing that sense of power.
The side effects of the Gluttony Mask were severe, but the special power bonuses it gave... far exceeded the Greed Mask!
112 portions of food. 700 unknown pills. It had created a massive surge of energy.
Lu Ce felt like there was a powder keg inside his body, ready to explode with overwhelming force. That slash of his earlier? Child’s play.
The raging energy was swelling inside him. Every little bit that got absorbed would instantly start repairing his body and boosting his strength.
Back in the room, when Long Wu had attacked him, Lu Ce had let himself be torn apart and racked up four or five Pain Points.
But now, to the other players, he just looked a little disheveled—no one realized he had been injured at all.
Because all his wounds had already fully healed!
The energy accumulated in his body gave him an absurd level of regeneration when it came to open wounds.
And now, his Strength had gone from 24 to 25!
To be precise, all his attributes—except Spirit—had increased by one!
It wasn’t from stat allocation. This terrifying effect came from the Gluttony Mask. That powerful energy, even the tiniest bit absorbed by the body, had such astonishing results.
He had to fully enjoy this mask. As long as he kept that baseline rationality, the surface-level madness didn’t matter.
In fact, he wasn’t sure if it was just the mental chaos syncing well with this place…
But he genuinely felt that in this disordered, unclear state, he was seeing a lot of things more clearly…
Like those pills. Like these people.
......
The argument ended. There was still some time until lunch.
Kirk sat alone, facing the wall, deep in thought. Lu Ce lay still on the ground. No one knew what these two Perfect Completion Players were planning.
Jiu Tian tried several times to start a conversation, hoping to gather any new information or coordinate next steps.
But very few responded. From the breakfast session earlier, everyone had only gleaned two shared insights: one, patients only calmed down after taking medication; and two, patients always claimed they weren’t sick.
Very in line with symptoms of mental illness.
But this kind of intel wasn’t much help for progressing the task. After some hesitation, Jiu Tian finally shared his own discovery.
“My patient told me one thing. Aside from insisting he wasn’t sick... he also said, ‘I’m innocent.’”
“I don’t know if it helps, but please take it into consideration.”
Big Guy and the woman didn’t react, but Kirk and Lu Ce—still lying down—both twitched their ears noticeably.
【Lunchtime is about to begin. You all know the rules. Get ready.】
Time was almost up. The large door opened again. The metal robot Tom rolled out on his treads and exited the room.
【Lunchtime begins. Players, please begin the game!】
Kirk slowly opened his eyes and walked toward the door.
In the history of international medicine, there has never been a fixed standard for grading the severity of mental illness.
But here, they had to find the one who was the most mentally ill—yet all the patients claimed they weren’t sick.
It seemed... it was time to change strategies...
With that thought, he turned around and looked at Lu Ce.
