Chapter 49: The Dragon King’s Breakfast and the Mysterious Commission
Just as Mophis was worrying about her future and nervously spying on the players’ forum, a lazy yet slightly displeased magnetic voice came from behind her.
“What are you doing?”
Mophis was so startled that she almost flung the virtual light screen in her hands away.
She turned her head sharply, only to see that Ignis had somehow already woken up.
Barefoot, she stood silently behind her, those molten-gold eyes curiously gazing at the patch of empty air before Mophis.
“N-nothing.” Mophis hurriedly closed the forum, guiltily standing up and brushing the dust off her skirt.
How could this fellow walk without making a sound? Was she a cat or something?
“Hmph.” Ignis clearly didn’t believe her.
She leaned in closer, that scorching breath carrying a mix of sulfur and an oddly sweet fragrance brushing across Mophis’s face, making her cheeks heat up.
Ignis inhaled deeply, as if savoring the taste lingering in the air, before frowning even more deeply.
“You reek of those insects. Noisy. Annoying.”
Insects? Did she mean the players?
Mophis grumbled inwardly but dared not voice it.
Facing this mother dragon now was like standing next to a gas tank that could explode at any moment—she had to tread carefully.
Ignis didn’t seem too interested in pursuing what she had been doing.
Instead, she stretched lazily, her silk robe outlining her curves with sinful clarity, then rubbed her flat stomach and declared in an unquestionable tone: “I’m hungry.”
Mophis’s heart skipped a beat.
Here it was—the most practical problem in cohabitation: meals.
“What do you want to eat?” Mophis asked stiffly.
“Breakfast.” Ignis crossed her arms, looking down at her as if at a not-so-bright servant.
“Of course, a breakfast worthy of my status. Unicorn tenderloin roasted with millennia-aged lava, paired with holy light berries moistened by the morning dew of an elven garden, and a cup of golden tea brewed from snow melted atop the Dragon Canyon’s peak. Simple enough, right?”
Simple?
Simple your head!
Mophis’s eye twitched.
She had never even heard of those things!
This rotten library didn’t even have a leaf of vegetable—only moldy black bread and jerky of unknown age!
Seeing Mophis’s dumbstruck face, looking as though she were saying, “Are you trying to make things hard for me?” Ignis’s patience seemed to wear thin.
“What? You don’t have any?” Her voice turned cold.
“Then just bring me something. I’ve been asleep for thousands of years—my appetite hasn’t fully recovered, so I’m not picky. Those lively ‘two-legged sheep’ outside… they look… quite chewy.”
She stuck out her rosy tongue, licking her lips.
Two-legged sheep?!
Mophis nearly lost her soul in fright.
She was serious! She really wanted to eat players!
If she let her out there to grab a random player for breakfast, it would be chaos!
Players might be hard-headed, but they weren’t idiots.
If they found out their “Deputy Leader” was someone who ate people, that freshly budding “Dragon Concubine CP” filter would shatter instantly.
Forget about protecting her—they would probably form a “Dragon-Slaying Squad” and wipe her and the library out instead!
No way! She absolutely couldn’t let her go out!
“There is! Of course there is!” Mophis shouted in desperation.
“Oh?” Ignis raised a brow, amusement flickering in her golden eyes.
“Then what are you waiting for? Go prepare it.”
“Preparation… takes time!” Mophis’s mind raced as she began spouting nonsense with a straight face.
“The top-tier ingredients you mentioned… our library doesn’t have them in stock, but… but we can ‘commission’ others to procure them! Yes, commission!”
She secretly patted herself on the back for coming up with that word.
Ignis seemed intrigued.
“Commission? Commission who? Those insects outside who aren’t even enough to get stuck between my teeth?”
“You mustn’t underestimate them!” Mophis retorted at once.
Right now, she had to boost the players’ value at all costs to dissuade this dragon from eating them.
“They… they are the ‘Chosen Ones’! Darlings of the world! They possess immortality and infinite potential! As long as the ‘reward’ is right, even a god’s heart—they could bring it to you!”
Half true, half bluff, but it worked—Ignis was now deep in thought.
Immortal? Darlings of the world?
She glanced at the players outside, busy with construction, and… perhaps they were indeed a little unusual.
“Reward?” Ignis seized the key word.
Her golden eyes gleamed with the same light dragons displayed when spotting treasure.
“And what reward can you offer?”
Mophis’s heart clenched.
Here it was—the crucial question.
She was a penniless Librarian.
What reward could she possibly offer?
Her eyes darted around, landing on the pile of treasure Ignis had dragged in.
What if… she used those to hire others?
No, impossible! This dragon was sharp—she would definitely notice.
Just as Mophis was about to break into a sweat, she suddenly remembered something and reopened the players’ forum.
Quickly searching with the keywords “food” and “cooking,” her eyes landed on a pinned thread.
Post by ID: 【FoodGodDescends】
【Sigh, invincibility is so lonely! As the first player in the server to achieve Master Chef level, I haven’t even had a chance to showcase my skills! Possessing the technique to slay dragons, yet no dragon to slay! Owning divine recipes, yet no legendary ingredients to cook! How I loathe this fate!】
Beneath the post, players were bantering.
【FoodGod’s flexing again.】
【Bro, I’ve got a chunk of boar meat—can you make a royal feast out of it?】
【Carry us! Bro, got room on your thigh for another pendant?】
Looking at the thread, a daring plan began to form in Mophis’s mind.
She remembered the library’s system had a long-abandoned “Commission Board” feature for posting internal chores.
She had discarded it long ago as useless, but it still existed in the code—a tiny BUG.
She could use her Librarian authority to reactivate it!
“Reward…” Mophis lifted her head, meeting Ignis’s scrutinizing gaze with a mysterious smile.
“The reward will naturally be… the ‘blessing’ of the great Golden Dragon King, Lady Ignis.”
As she spoke, she secretly fiddled with her admin panel.
【Activating hidden module: Library Internal Commission Board… Activation successful!】
【Creating new commission…】
【Commission Title: The Guardian’s Morning Meal】
【Commission Details: A guest of ancient times, noble and fastidious, has grown weary of mundane food. A master artisan is sought to create a breakfast filled with ‘miracle,’ capable of moving her discerning palate.】
【Commission Requirements: Ingredients unrestricted, cuisine unrestricted, but the dish must possess ‘Legendary’ quality and effects.】
【Commission Reward: …】
Mophis hesitated at the reward field.
What could she put there?
She stole a glance at Ignis, who was idly running her fingers through her flame-like long hair.
A few strands broke and fell to the ground, soon dispersing into tiny sparks.
Wait… disappeared?
No, not all of them!
Mophis noticed that one strand had landed on Ignis’s crimson silk robe.
Instead of vanishing, it shimmered with a dark golden sheen, resembling a metallic thread-like… substance.
Not a scale—but a dragon molt!
When dragons grew, they constantly shed tiny scales or flakes, each imbued with pure draconic magic—top-tier alchemy and enchantment materials!
And in Ignis’s human form, that molt manifested as hair.
Mophis’s heart pounded.
She had found it!
Carefully, she reached out and, while Ignis wasn’t paying attention, pinched the nearly invisible strand from her robe.
Quickly, she entered this “item” into the reward field.
【Commission Reward: A Tiny Scale of the Golden Dragon King (Legendary Material)】
【Submit!】
With everything done, Mophis exhaled in relief.
Meanwhile, outside the library, a life player with ID 【Passerby A Is Me】 was aimlessly wandering around the walls, hoping to trigger a hidden quest.
Suddenly, the smooth obsidian wall shimmered, and an ancient wooden commission board appeared in ghostly projection.
“Hm? What’s this?”
He leaned closer, reading the board.
The next second, his sleep-deprived, lifeless eyes bulged wide like copper bells!
“Holy shit!!!!!!”
A thunderous scream tore through the bustling morning of the Western Wasteland.
