Player’s Guide to Raising a BUG Angel-Chapter 55 : I’m Really Not the City Lord!

Chapter 55

Chapter 55: I’m Really Not the City Lord!
It was over.
This was the first thought that flashed through Mophis’s mind.
When it came to dealing with Players, she already had her own set of insights. After all, she understood Players. She knew this group of LSPs might joke shamelessly, but in essence, they would never truly harm her.
But the army before her was different.
They were the “natives” of this world, part of the “main storyline,” the sharpest blade in the GMs’ hands, used to maintain the “world order.”
Their behavior and logic followed this world’s rules and settings completely.
In their eyes, Players were “Chosen Ones,” synonymous with chaos. And the city of “Mophisia,” where a World Boss resided, was a den of threats—an unlawful place that had to be eradicated.
Mophis felt her palms begin to sweat.
What should she do?
Go out?
What could she possibly say?
“Hello, I’m the Librarian here. That dragon is my new roommate, and we’re peacefully coexisting”?
Not to mention NPCs, even she herself wouldn’t believe that.
Not go out?
That was even worse. That would be the same as admitting to their “accusations.” In the next second, the army might launch an attack.
While she was at a total loss, Ignis, behind her, walked to the window with great interest.
“Oh? Lackeys of St. Orleans?” She gazed at the army outside, a trace of disdain flashing in her golden pupils. “It’s been thousands of years. Their armor does look shinier than before. But I wonder if it’s still the same as back then—good to look at, useless in practice.”
Her tone was dripping with contempt toward human armies.
“They… seem to be here to cause us trouble,” Mophis whispered.
“Cause trouble?” Ignis laughed. She stretched out her fingers, gently hooking a lock of Mophis’s black hair and lifting it to her nose to sniff. “With me here, who dares cause trouble?”
“As long as you say the word, I’ll go out right now and burn them all—horses and men—into ashes.”
Her words were filled with a queen’s dominance, with a clear desire to “show off” in front of Mophis.
Mophis was startled and quickly grabbed her hand.
“No! Absolutely not!”
What kind of joke was that! If a fight really broke out, things would be beyond repair!
To attack the kingdom’s regular army was the same as declaring war on all of St. Orleans! At that time, not just one knight order, even ten or a hundred of them couldn’t stop the NPC nation’s all-out crusade.
That would really bring the game to its grand finale.
“Oh?” Ignis looked at Mophis’s nervous expression, her smile deepening. “Are you… worrying about me?”
“I’m worrying about my library!” Mophis immediately retorted. “If you two start fighting, what if you destroy my house?”
“Hmph, cowardly thing.” Ignis might have said that, but the joy in her eyes couldn’t be hidden.
She was thoroughly enjoying this feeling of being “relied upon” and “needed” by Mophis.
“Fine. Since my ‘little collection’ doesn’t want me to act, I’ll see how you handle this swarm of annoying bugs.” Ignis crossed her arms, looking as though she was ready to enjoy the show.
Mophis felt immense pressure.
She straightened her white dress, doing her best to look composed. Then, step by step, she walked toward the library’s grand entrance.
As the heavy obsidian gates slowly opened—
When Mophis’s slender, cold figure bathed in holy light appeared before all—
The tense atmosphere outside froze instantly.
Both the vigilant Players and the fierce Royal Knights were stunned by this sudden, godlike sight.
Especially the knight commander at the front.
The moment he saw Mophis, his pupils shrank sharply.
He could feel it—the soft yet holy aura radiating from that girl. That aura made him, a lifelong Paladin of the Holy Light with ironclad resolve, feel the impulse to kneel and worship.
Unconsciously, his attitude shifted from “interrogation” to “inquiry.”
He dismounted, bowed formally to Mophis, and saluted like a true knight.
“Respected Lady, I am Kael von Heinrich, Commander of the Third Division of the Royal Knights of St. Orleans.”
Kael?
Mophis froze when she heard that name.
Wasn’t he the guide NPC from the Newbie Village? How had he suddenly become a Royal Knight Commander?
It seemed that as the game progressed, the roles and statuses of key NPCs were constantly evolving.
“I was ordered to investigate the abnormal energy fluctuations in this place, and… the whereabouts of the Golden Dragon King Ignis.” Kael’s voice was still loud, but the earlier aggression was gone, replaced with respect.
“May I ask, are you the master of this place?”
Every Player’s heart was in their throat. They were all waiting for their “wife’s” answer to this city’s fate-determining question.
Mophis looked at Kael, then at the thousands of elite knights behind him, and the ornate carriage that had remained silent all this time. Her mind went blank.
Master?
I’m just a Librarian!
Without thinking, she blurted out the truest thought in her heart.
“I am not.”
Her voice, soft yet clear, carried across the battlefield thanks to the blessing of 【Holy Light Affinity】.
Yet those two words were interpreted very differently by different listeners.
In Kael’s ears, it was humility. This mysterious lady, possessing such a divine aura, refused to be bound by the worldly title of “lord.”
In the Players’ ears, the sheer level of coolness was off the charts!
【Did you hear that? Wife said she isn’t!】
【So badass! What kind of realm is this? ‘I am not the master of this place, I am merely its guardian’! 10,000 points for this line!】
【I get it! Wife means this city belongs to all of us, the members of the ‘Knight Order’! She rejects dictatorship—she wants democracy!】
【Wuwuwu, wife, my superhero!】
Once again, the whole group “misinterpreted” in unison.
Kael was clearly also moved by this “noble” sentiment, his respect for Mophis deepening further.
“Then…” He was just about to ask more when a crisp yet majestic female voice came from the ornate carriage.
“Sir Kael, step back.”
“Yes!” Kael immediately retreated respectfully to the side.
Under everyone’s gaze, a maid slowly opened the carriage door.
A slender foot in exquisite silk slippers emerged first. Then, a young woman in a luxurious court gown, carrying an air of noble elegance, stepped gracefully down.
She had long flaxen curls and emerald eyes shining like the clearest gems. On her face was the courteous yet aloof smile unique to nobility.
She glanced at the vigilant Players, then at the city brimming with wildness and magical aura, and finally, her gaze settled on Mophis.
“A pleasure to meet you, Guardian of the Forgotten Library.”
She lifted her skirt and performed a flawless curtsy—the highest-level court etiquette of the Central Kingdom.
“My name is Elsa de Orleans.”
“By order of my elder sister, Her Majesty, Empress Seraphina, I have come to this place to discuss… certain matters regarding the future of this world with you.”
