Jiang Yihua didn't hesitate long before taking food for Da Zhi. Zhang Biao nearby stared at him for a few seconds, then encouraged more people to go outside to find food or useful items.
"Only one day left, better not go out now," Gu Yu said. "We have enough food, no need to invite trouble."
"But isn't the government collecting items brought out from the game?" Zhang Biao countered. "These can be exchanged for potions, and potions are so scarce."
Jiang Yihua instinctively glanced at the wealthy young girl and the injured woman not far away. Both had heard Zhang Biao's words but didn't even lift their heads.
"You can't exchange everyday items for good potions," she said. "You'd be better off carrying out a few more flower pots."
Zhang Biao waved his hand roughly. "Even if we take them out, they might not survive. Brother Qiao already tried that before."
"Who's Brother Qiao?" Jiang Yihua asked reflexively.
"He's the leader of our Free Players organization," Zhang Biao said. "A D-level player."
"No way," Jiang Yihua said, shocked. "From what I've heard, even the government doesn't have many D-level players, and those in Harbor City were all sacrificed. He can't be real, can he?"
"What do you mean real or fake? Do you have any evidence, just talking nonsense?" Zhang Biao said discontentedly. "How could you possibly understand the realm of the strong?"
Xu Huo looked at Gu Yu first, and Gu Yu then said, "I mentioned him to you before, he's a very strong person."
"Since the government's D-level players are finished, why don't you join us?" Zhang Biao said. "Although the benefits aren't as good as what the government offers, we won't force you to take risks or fight desperately."
Gu Yu remained silent this time.
"Have you contacted Shen Xin?" Xu Huo asked her.
Shen Xin was the female player they met in Decibel Town. Her older brother died there, and when the dungeon ended, she had mentioned wanting to go to Capital City to join Gu Yu.
"She found a better place," Gu Yu shook her head, indicating nothing had changed.
Xu Huo nodded understandingly.
After resting for a while, everyone started blocking the ventilation openings in the ceiling again.
The Man-eating Flower's roots and stems had likely entered the ventilation ducts. The best method was to completely seal the ventilation openings, which would both prevent poisonous powder and guard against Man-eating Flower attacks.
"Don't we have just one day left? Why bother with this?" Kang Hong said while dismantling metal frames from the glass greenhouse edges to support the ventilation covers. "We can go to other floors at night."
Xu Huo repeated his earlier statement - just in case.
Soon, Zhang Biao left with people again, this time accompanied by over ten others.
No one stopped them. Xu Huo tied the wire with the small electric fan to the flesh worm and lowered it, watching it burrow into the bottom of the elevator shaft.
"Leave the elevator door open? I'm afraid it might cut the wire," Kang Hong said.
"Deal with the present first," Xu Huo said. If no accidents occurred before the dungeon ended, they could consider later matters then.
But change came that quickly. At dusk, when everyone was gradually feeling they could safely complete this dungeon, a sudden scream came from downstairs, followed immediately by roars of beasts, with chaotic footsteps and screams approaching from far to near.
Xu Huo and the others immediately went on alert, then heard the elevator activating.
"Four PM, the elevator's going to the second floor!" Kang Hong said immediately. "It might bring Mutants up!"
"It won't!" Jiang Yihua said. "After the elevator comes up from downstairs, it should return to the fifteenth floor. The thirteenth floor is safe!"
"Not necessarily!" Gu Yu said. "The thirteenth floor's rules are different from other floors. Who knows if there are other traps!"
"What should we do then!" Zheng Liang asked.
"What else can we do?" Gu Yu said. "Fight them, of course! No reason to survive this long only to die in the hands of a few Mutants!"
Xu Huo had already stepped forward and pulled the main power switch!
Gu Yu and the others stared at him in shock. Da Zhi said, "What are you doing? There are still over ten people who haven't come up!"
Xu Huo didn't respond to him but said gravely, "If you don't want to die, smash the water containers into the elevator when the doors open. These aren't the limited Mutants we encountered before - if we don't respond adequately, it'll be a massacre!"
Everyone felt a chill and stopped worrying about Zhang Biao and the others' survival. They rushed forward, carrying and holding the pre-prepared water, aiming at the still-closed elevator doors!
The extended wire had already taken effect by now. Sparks crackled in the elevator shaft, but the elevator didn't stop operating, rising to the thirteenth floor in an extremely short time!
"Ding!"
The elevator doors opened, and the first to roll out was Zhang Biao, whose shoulder was being bitten. Half his body was covered in blood as he struggled to pry open the Mutant's mouth while begging Gu Yu for help!
Gu Yu and Zheng Liang immediately grabbed metal rods and stabbed at the eyes of the plump wolf-shaped Mutant. After piercing its skull, they twisted forcefully before pulling out, causing blood mixed with brain matter to flow out!
Before the wolf-shaped Mutant had completely died, Zhang Biao kicked it back into the elevator. But before he could get up, another Mutant leaped out from the other elevator, moving with astonishing speed!
"Move aside!" Zheng Liang shouted.
At that moment, a red beam flashed through the air. That Mutant was cut in half mid-air, blood and internal organs scattering everywhere. Xu Huo rushed over, kicked Zhang Biao aside, smashed the nearest container into the elevator. After water flowed out, sparks sprayed inside, and then the entire elevator rapidly plummeted downward!
The others had no time to close the elevator doors because simultaneously, Mutants were emerging from other elevators. All players immediately scattered, coordinating to kill the Mutants!
These Mutated Animals were different from those seen on other floors. Compared to the emaciated animals inside the building that had been starving for who knows how long, these were clearly more agile, had better stamina, and showed another level of mutation!
Xu Huo killed a large fox whose mouth had split into six petals that was pouncing toward him, then turned and stabbed the Mutant entangled with Jiang Yihua and Da Zhi to death.
"Destroy the elevators! Don't bother saving people even if there are any - they can't complete the dungeon!" he instructed before going to assist Gu Yu.
Jiang Yihua and Da Zhi had initially wanted to save people, but after seeing the emerging Mutants were more ferocious than any they'd encountered before, they could only temporarily set aside their conscience and quickly pour water into the elevators!
Actually, some non-players present reacted quickly, were brave, and had good luck. They encountered empty elevators, so they poured water immediately, then used pre-made shovels to scoop up potted plants from the walls that could spray corrosive poisonous powder and threw them at the Mutants. Although the effect was minimal, it protected them initially and bought time for the players, not wasting their lives for nothing.
Clearly, other Mutants were still entering through the elevator shaft. After the elevators fell, mournful cries could still be heard.
"Close the doors quickly!" Seeing only one Mutated Animal remained from those that had been killed, Jiang Yihua immediately called to those nearby who still dared to move.
