Chapter 413: Chapter 413: Radiant Without Him
Serena Sterling sat there for a long time.
So long that Seraphina’s class was already over.
She didn’t know when, but Seraphina had already come up to her.
"Aunt Serena," Seraphina called softly, looking at Serena with concern, "Are you unhappy?"
Serena didn’t answer immediately. She just reached out and stroked Seraphina’s cheek.
A child’s cheek is soft and tender.
Looking into Seraphina’s worried eyes, Serena asked softly, "Seraphina, does learning these things make you feel tired?"
Did she feel that Serena was too strict?
After all, Seraphina was just a little girl.
"Not at all." Seraphina replied, hugging Serena’s arm, "Although many things are difficult, I know you all want the best for me."
Seraphina moved closer to Serena and leaned into her embrace.
"Aunt Serena, I want to be as good as you," Seraphina whispered, "I’m your daughter."
The sunlight slanted down.
Serena gently held Seraphina, tucking her hair back in place.
She saw Seraphina’s lips move slightly, as if she wanted to say something.
Serena knew Seraphina was thinking about calling her "Mom."
But Serena knew that the word "Mom" was an unspeakable pain for Seraphina.
Seraphina’s biological parents had abandoned her early on.
"Seraphina," Serena said softly, "don’t force yourself."
Wait for the right moment.
Maybe long, long after, when Seraphina grows up and can let go of the past, calling her that would come naturally.
Seraphina nuzzled into Serena’s embrace, and Serena gently patted her back, comforting her.
Patience was still needed.
Both for Seraphina and for Sheila Jenkins.
Patience was essential.
Fortunately, she had always been good at waiting.
Serena gently patted Seraphina’s back, watching her move adorably in her arms, her lips curling into a smile.
"Seraphina, shall we go feed the alpacas?" Serena asked with a smile, since Seraphina’s class was over.
"Sure!" Seraphina grinned, showing her little teeth.
Serena took Seraphina’s hand, and they sat on the shuttle bus to the alpacas. These ones were kept here as pets because Silas Hawthorne noticed Seraphina’s fondness for them.
Before Serena and Seraphina arrived, someone had already prepared everything.
Now, the two of them took carrots and fed them to the alpacas.
As they watched the alpacas crunching on the carrots, both Serena and Seraphina couldn’t help but laugh.
Not far behind them, Silas Hawthorne stepped off the car, and seeing the mother and daughter’s smiles in the sunlight, his eyes were filled with gentleness.
Serena heard the sound and turned around, only to see Silas standing beside her.
"Here, for you."
She handed him a carrot, which he took and planted a kiss on her forehead.
It was just a light kiss, and then he smiled and fed the alpacas with the carrot.
Serena slightly lowered her eyes, looking at the little animals nibbling the carrot in Silas’s hand, she couldn’t help saying, "What’s your secret, everything you raise gets so chubby."
They were brought here not long ago, yet they had already grown plump.
"I don’t know," Silas chuckled, "I just wanted to feed them, and they ended up like this."
"But they’re quite cute," Silas said, looking at Serena.
The second half of his sentence was left unsaid, which was—"But you’re too skinny, I didn’t manage to take good care of you."
Their eyes met, and everything was understood without words, as they exchanged a smile.
"Crunch, crunch, crunch..." The alpacas ate quickly, pulling their attention back.
Silas quickly picked up another carrot and handed it over.
One after another, as long as the alpacas opened their mouths, Silas kept feeding them.
Serena truly laughed, feeding them round would be no surprise.
"Uncle Silas, if you keep feeding, they’ll overeat," Seraphina giggled.
Silas laughed, patting Seraphina’s head with his other hand.
Seraphina held onto Serena’s hand seeking support, "Aunt Serena, don’t you think I’m right?"
Serena nodded, "Seraphina’s right."
Silas had to withdraw his hand, looking at the alpacas, still slightly reluctant.
Serena and Seraphina both laughed.
The sunlight stretched their shadows long; the three of them leaned together, perfect and harmonious.
...
On the other side.
In the president’s office of The Lawson Corporation.
Jude Chaucer was handing a tablet to Julian Lawson.
"President Lawson, here’s the latest news about Miss Sheridan." Jude Chaucer handed the page over to Julian Lawson after adjusting it.
Julian Lawson reached out to take it, looking at the content on the screen.
"Miss Sheridan’s maneuver was brilliant, securing funds from MKK, wisely investing in Aether, then amplifying the funds on the international market, and finally returning to Aether to block the door..."
Jude Chaucer’s voice was full of excitement as he spoke.
But Julian Lawson just flipped through the latest news, handing the tablet back to Jude Chaucer afterward.
Jude Chaucer looked at Julian Lawson, who didn’t say anything, and then left.
The office was now left with Julian Lawson alone.
After Jude Chaucer’s closing door sound, Julian Lawson lifted his head, looking out at the vast sky beyond the large floor-to-ceiling windows.
Without him, she shone brightly.
Was he wrong?
A small bird flew high across the sky.
Julian Lawson averted his gaze.
No, he wasn’t wrong.
They just had misunderstandings between them.
Once the misunderstandings were cleared, she would understand him.
...
In the shopping mall.
Jasper Ford was in a good mood today and immediately asked Gigi Sutton out.
The two had just finished shopping and were now sitting in a restaurant.
"Why are you so happy today?" Gigi Sutton asked.
Jasper Ford nodded, raising a fist in the air, and said, "Gigi, let me tell you, after blocking the door at Aether today, I even video called the boss to mock him a bit, hahaha, seeing him at a loss really made me happy!"
Gigi Sutton also laughed.
Actually, the Sutton Family was not simple, and the internal family conflict was quite severe.
So often, she and Jasper Ford found a common language.
But...
"Jasper, I have something for you to see," Gigi Sutton said as she took out her phone and handed it to Jasper Ford.
Jasper Ford leaned over for a look.
He discovered that someone had taken pictures of him and Serena Sterling at Aether and sent them to Gigi Sutton.
After the photos were sent, there was a line of text—"He’s helping Serena again, everyone in Aeston knows that Jasper Ford is just a simp for Serena Sterling, Gigi Sutton, are you really okay with this?"
This directly hit a sensitive spot.
No matter the actual relationship between Jasper Ford and Serena Sterling, most women wouldn’t want their boyfriend to carry such a reputation.
Jasper Ford was fuming.
"Who did this, it’s slander! At that time, both Lucas Quentin and Thea Lloyd were there! We were all speaking up for Serena, this person is taking it out of context!"
