Chapter 532: The Hisui Region!
Jubilife Village was a quaint little settlement.
Though wooden structures dominated the landscape, John found it hard to believe that proper brick buildings already existed in this era, two thousand years removed from modern society.
Especially striking was the centerpiece of the village: a three-story collegiate-style building. This brick structure used actual red bricks, each one precisely fitted and well-polished.
Even knowing this was a game world, John couldn’t help but marvel at the architectural inconsistency.
"They’ve got sophisticated brick buildings in this era, but two thousand years later, the Pokemon world’s construction technology hasn’t advanced at all?"
Then again, considering the Pokemon world already had
space folding
technology to store Pokemon in Pokeballs two millennia ago, maybe he shouldn’t be surprised by anything.
Guided by Akari, John soon walked into Jubilife Village under the curious stares of the two gate guards.
Walking through the village streets, most of the passing merchants and residents were locals. Besides greeting Akari, they openly gawked at John with undisguised curiosity.
His modern clothing stood out like a sore thumb in this ancient settlement. Even the traveling merchants from the Ginkgo Guild who regularly visited the village didn’t dress as strangely as he did.
Soon, John and Akari reached the center of Jubilife Village, specifically, the building John had thought couldn’t possibly exist in this era.
The Galaxy Expedition Team Headquaters.
"Wait in the lobby on the first floor. I’ll your arrival to our captain," Akari said, leading John inside before hurrying upstairs.
Left to his own devices, John wandered around freely.
Whitewashed walls, paintings hanging in the corridors, red carpets covering the floors, the whole place gave him vibes of traveling back to the 1970s or 80s.
Passing by one room, he spotted a Chansey treating an injured Psyduck and Luxray.
Further down the hall, he found a small laboratory. Inside, a dark-skinned, round-faced man wearing a white researcher’s coat and a blue cap was muttering to himself.
"It’s said that the violent and aggressive Kleavor would calm down as long as it ate two of its favorite foods."
"Is it the aroma produced by combining these two things that it likes? Or the ingredients themselves?"
John barely registered what the researcher was saying. His attention had locked onto a particular item sitting casually on the laboratory table.
A pink tablet lay there, innocently catching the light.
"Holy shit," John breathed, swallowing hard as he silently pulled out his treasure detector.
Buzz!
The device immediately locked onto the pink tablet.
John’s eyes lit up like searchlights as he stared at the stone slab.
He quickly strode over to the pink tablet, picked it up, and examined it carefully.
The item’s attributes instantly displayed through his Gameboy.
[Pixie Plate: One of the Creation Tablets, the holder becomes immune to and can absorb Fairy-type effects. (Fairy-type move power increased by 500%.)]
"I knew it!" John exclaimed, his face a mixture of disbelief and excitement.
After searching all over the modern world, he’d been lucky enough to obtain a
Spooky Plate
that symbolized Ghost-type energy. And now, barely an hour into his time travel adventure, he’d stumbled across another Creation Tablet!
And it was just sitting on a table? Like a paperweight?
The whole situation felt surreal.
Then again, this reminded him of the main storyline in "Pokemon Legends: Arceus", collecting various attribute tablets to eventually summon Arceus itself.
While he probably couldn’t trigger the main quest, if he could grab a few tablets here and bring them back to the future... wouldn’t he become basically invincible?
"Hello? Who are you? Can I help you?" The researcher’s voice finally cut through John’s thoughts as the round-faced man looked at him with confusion.
"Uh, hello! I’m a traveler from another continent. Name’s John." He quickly composed himself. "Akari brought me here. She said she needed to to the captain and asked me to wait on the first floor."
"I was just looking around and noticed this tablet. Got curious, so I came in to check it out."
Obtaining this
Pixie Plate
wouldn’t be difficult. John wasn’t being arrogant, the entire Jubilife Village combined couldn’t stop him if he wanted to take it.
So there was no need to rush. No need to just grab it and run.
"Hello, my name is Laventon. I’m a Pokemon Professor, a researcher dedicated to deeply understanding Pokemon through various field studies." The round-faced researcher introduced himself, then immediately asked with interest, "Have you done any research on these tablets?"
"Some research, yes. They should record information about Lord Sinnoh," John offered carefully.
Lord Sinnoh was what people in this ancient Sinnoh Region called Arceus.
Though not everyone agreed on the details. Team Diamond believed Lord Sinnoh was Dialga. Team Pearl insisted it was Palkia. Each faction had their own theories.
Laventon’s interest immediately piqued as he moved closer.
"Really? Can you read the writing on the tablet?"
"Not exactly. I actually have a tablet of my own, and a friend once studied it, so I know a bit about them." John pulled out the
Spooky Plate
from his inventory.
When Professor Laventon saw the
Spooky Plate
, his eyes practically sparkled.
His research on tablets had hit a dead end. The tablet John produced had the same shape and similar inscriptions as the one on his desk.
If he could study this tablet, he’d definitely make progress. Maybe even decipher the writing on both tablets!
"Then, would you perhaps—" Laventon began, but was cut off by Akari’s voice from outside the door.
"John, where are you?"
"I’m here," John called back, turning toward the hallway.
Akari stood at the base of the stairs. "I’ve ed to the captain. She wants to see you."
"Alright, I’ll be right there." John nodded, then turned back to Professor Laventon.
"Well, Professor, let’s talk more when we have time. I’ll probably be staying in Jubilife Village for a few days."
With that, he slipped the
Spooky Plate
back into his pack and left the research room under Professor Laventon’s clearly disappointed gaze.
