Chapter 63: Tragedy? The Farewell Song of the Blade Waltz
"I think, Your Highness the Princess, you seem to have forgotten something. I, Loka Alva, am the daughter of the Duke’s Mansion, and my father’s rise to power is entirely in my favor."
Loka slowly stepped in front of Yiwen, pointing the silver sword at her, her eyes filled with a familiar, chilling coldness that inspired fear, staring expressionlessly at the incredulous Yiwen.
"As the Duke’s eldest daughter, it’s my duty to clear all obstacles for my father. If you’re killed, the greatest hindrance to his plan will be gone."
Loka turned to the Duke with a faint smile, as if she had truly become his obedient daughter.
The Duke merely signaled his men to hold off, watching the scene with interest.
"You’re worried about the Saito’s Grand Duke’s influence, aren’t you? Now, you have the perfect executioner before you. The criminal who killed the Sixth Princess, wanted across the empire—sounds like a perfectly reasonable excuse, doesn’t it?"
Her words indeed tempted the Duke.
By using her to kill the Sixth Princess, not only would his future throne face no threats, but the Saito’s Grand Duke, faced with a fugitive killer, would have to swallow his anger and accept reality.
Even if he unreasonably demanded the culprit be caught, there were plenty of scapegoats to grab.
He could even arrest Loka directly, gaining a favor in the process.
"Since you’re so willing, I’ll leave this matter to you, Loka. Don’t disappoint me this time."
Though the proposal was tempting, the Duke remained wary of this daughter, who, like him, was reborn.
After all, she had thwarted his plans countless times before.
If she was plotting something, he’d just deal with her here and now.
"Kill her, Loka, and I’ll give you one more chance. Otherwise, both of you die here today."
"Since I’m in charge, considering how long we’ve been together, shouldn’t we at least get a chance to say goodbye? How about a duel with Her Highness? Only the victor lives."
With that, Loka raised the silver sword, issuing a duel challenge to Yiwen once more.
In Yiwen’s hand was only the silver-carved dagger—the one Loka had given her before.
To duel with each other’s weapons, letting the other die by their own blade—what an ironic and thrilling spectacle.
The Duke nodded, permitting the request.
"However, I’d like a witness to declare the duel’s outcome."
"Oh, am I not qualified to be the witness?"
"You’re my father. As a witness, you’d be biased. We need a more formal witness to make your plan more legitimate, don’t we?"
The Duke nodded impatiently, signaling one of his men to step forward as the witness.
Loka tried to push further, but his glare made her quiet down obediently.
"Then, Your Highness, let’s begin. In this garden, under the First Empress’s witness, let me grant you a painless death."
"Loka, why are you doing this...?"
Yiwen wanted to ask more, but the next second, the sword’s edge grazed her hair, cutting a few strands that floated down.
Loka’s merciless eyes followed.
She was really trying to kill her!
"Stand up, pick up your weapon. I don’t like prey that doesn’t fight back."
Loka ignored Yiwen’s gaze, charging at her with the silver sword.
Though her swordsmanship wasn’t polished, each move was lethal.
After dodging a few times, Yiwen had no choice but to counter with her dagger.
"Why are you siding with him, Loka?"
Yiwen almost roared the question.
They had faced a misunderstanding with the silver sword before, but unlike that mutual mistake.
Yiwen now saw genuine killing intent and coldness in Loka’s eyes.
She had been ready to sacrifice her own safety to let Loka escape.
If Loka followed their plan, she could at least protect both their lives.
But Loka unhesitatingly chose another path, one paved with her own life for a glorious future.
Yet they had promised in their hearts to entrust their lives to each other.
"I told you, I serve only profit. Right now, the Duke is worth more than you, and your life is the best proof of my loyalty to him."
Loka wasn’t swayed by Yiwen’s confused gaze, relentlessly swinging the silver sword.
As it grazed her shoulder again, Yiwen finally saw through the person before her.
"I understand. I see you clearly now, Loka. If that’s how it is, I’ll end you myself!"
Having been betrayed and let down once more, Yiwen no longer needed that weak, hopeful heart.
She only needed to wield her weapon and kill the traitor before her.
Yiwen swung her dagger, grazing Loka’s face.
Loka dodged backward, then countered with a fierce thrust of the silver sword, which Yiwen sidestepped.
Taking advantage of Loka’s swing, Yiwen darted forward, stabbing her dagger toward Loka’s back.
But Loka caught the dagger with her right hand, gripping her own hand in the process.
"So, this is the final ending, isn’t it?"
Loka looked calmly at Yiwen’s face, a strange glint flickering in her eyes.
But her left hand’s silver sword wavered under its weight.
Yiwen seized the moment, dropped the dagger, grabbed the silver sword, and, gritting her teeth, thrust it toward Loka’s chest.
But as the silver sword was about to pierce Loka’s body, Loka suddenly flashed a triumphant smile.
Only Yiwen, face-to-face, noticed her anomaly.
So that’s how it is... No!
Yiwen tried to pull back, but Loka grabbed the blade with her other hand, still taunting the anxious Yiwen with brazen arrogance,
"What, upset you couldn’t kill me?"
"Loka... don’t... please..."
Just like that day in the garden, the hand gripping the blade was stained with her own blood, yet she showed no intention of letting go,
To onlookers, Yiwen seemed to be struggling to drive the sword into Loka’s body.
But in truth, Yiwen trembled, trying to pull it back, while Loka pulled it harder toward herself.
"Your Highness, if tears fall, you’ll give it away."
Loka gently wiped the uncontrollable tear from Yiwen’s eye with her free hand, finally revealing a sincere smile.
Then, with a sudden lunge forward, the silver sword pierced through her body with a thud.
Loka tightly embraced Yiwen.
Yiwen, at a loss, let go of her hands.
Seeing Loka’s slightly helpless smile, she understood everything.
"Really, it seems I’ve been ruined by Your Highness."
Blood spilled from Loka’s mouth as she gently left a blood-stained kiss on Yiwen’s forehead.
"Your Highness, please kill the me who fell in love with you."
