Chapter 135: Lucas grandparents are already talking of great grandchildren
Lucas sat to the side, arching an eyebrow as he watched Beauty cheerfully entertaining the two elderly folks.
The gloom that had clouded his face earlier finally gave way to a faint smile.
"Beauty, Lucas, when are you two going to get your marriage certificate?
Beauty’s already of legal age—aren’t you in any hurry?"
Beauty’s heart skipped a beat.
She was just a fake girlfriend—how could they possibly get married?
Panicked, she immediately shot a pleading glance at a certain someone.
Lucas crossed his legs, a sly smirk playing at the corner of his lips.
Deliberately ignoring her desperate look, he chuckled, "Don’t worry, Grandma
. We’ll get it done soon."
Beauty’s stomach twisted, her face paling for a split second before flushing crimson.
She glared at him furiously, her cheeks burning.
To the elderly couple, her reaction only seemed like bashfulness.
Grinning warmly, Grandma said, "As long as you two are happy together, getting married sooner rather than later would make us so happy—especially if we get to hold a great-grandchild!"
Beauty stayed silent, her face growing even redder.
Her fingers twisted nervously in her lap, her heart pounding with unease.
*What if Grandma finds out we’re just pretending?
Would she be heartbroken?
She hadn’t meant to deceive them—it was all Lucas’s fault for roping her into this charade!
*Now look where that’s gotten us.
They want to see the marriage certificate—let’s see how smug he is then.
She stole another glance at Lucas, who remained utterly unruffled, and silently cursed herself.
*Why am I the one freaking out when he’s acting like it’s no big deal?*
Just then, a knock sounded at the door.
Laura went to answer it.
Standing at the threshold were Emily and Williams, their expressions cold and unreadable.
They stepped inside, their icy gazes briefly flickering over Beauty before dismissively turning away, their arrogance unmistakable.
"Dad! Mom! You’re here!
Grandma was just saying she hopes Brother gets his marriage certificate with that woman soon!"
Laura had always been a little tattletale since childhood, and now she was snitching right in front of Lucas.
Her small face was scrunched up in disapproval as she shot Beauty a disdainful glance.
Emily’s face instantly paled, her delicate brows shooting up in outrage.
"Mom, Lucas’s marriage is no trivial matter!
How can you be so careless about it?
No matter what, he should marry someone from a family equal to ours.
This Beauty—just one look tells you she’s trouble.
She’s not worthy of our Lucas."
Beauty bit her lip.
For the sake of the elderly couple, she decided not to engage with the woman.
Even if she wasn’t good enough for Lucas, it wasn’t Emily’s place to criticize her like this.
Williams’s expression darkened as well, his hawk-like eyes scrutinizing her intently.
"Beauty is still too young," he said, each word deliberate.
"She’s not fit to be Lucas’s wife.
I don’t approve."
Hearing his son’s words, grandpa Marson, who had been silent until now, forcefully struck his cane against the floor.
Instantly, the entire room tensed up, the air thick with unease.
No one dared to breathe too loudly.
Everyone knew that the old man had been notorious in his youth for his stubborn, unreasonable ways.
Now in his old age, he only grew more domineering, fiercely protective of his family—especially his grandson.
He had doted on Lucas since the boy was a child.
"Your mother and I think Beauty is just fine," grandpa declared.
"A girl who treats elders with kindness can’t have a bad character.
If we two old relics don’t care about social status, how can you be more old-fashioned than us?
I said I want Beauty as our family’s granddaughter-in-law, and that’s final!
When have I ever gone back on my word?" Mr. Williams Marson’s face remained stormy.
Though he had inherited his father’s stubborn temper, when it came to his son’s marriage, he refused to back down.
There was no way he would let Lucas bring some unknown woman into the Marson family.
"Dad, Mom, I have no objection to you protecting Lucas, but how can you stand by while this little vixen bewitches him?
I’ve heard all about her cunning tricks!
On his birthday, she used underhanded means to get to him—doesn’t that bother you at all? Any woman entering our Marson family must be above reproach.
A scheming woman like her is utterly unworthy of Lucas!"
Though Emily held little sway in the Marson household, she had always been vehemently opposed to this matter.
Now, she had blurted out the incident from the birthday party.
Beauty’s face turned deathly pale.
Her clear, sharp eyes fixed on Emily as anger made her temples throb.
"You’re the one behind that girl who drugged me at my birthday party?" she demanded, her voice icy.
"What good does ruining my reputation do you?
Or were you hoping I’d be violated that night?"
"W-what are you talking about?" Emily stammered, her gaze darting away guiltily.
"Don’t you dare accuse me!
I have no idea what you mean!"
Realizing her slip, Emily paled, her expression turning sour.
"You were the one who brought up that night," Beauty pressed, her lips trembling slightly as she met Emily’s evasive stare head-on.
"Apart from me, Lucas, and the girl who spiked my drink, no one else knew about the drugging.
So tell me, *Auntie*, how did *you* find out?"
Her relentless tone left both Emily and Laura momentarily stunned.
Cornered, Emily lifted her chin haughtily, but words failed her.
At that moment, Lucas spoke, his voice cold as steel.
"So it was you behind it all along, Auntie.
I suppose I should thank you.
If not for your meddling, Beauty and I might not have grown so close so quickly.
That night, *I* was the one who helped her—something you clearly didn’t anticipate."
Caught red-handed, Emily flushed crimson, rendered speechless.
"Emily!" Grandpa bellowed, his mustache quivering with rage.
"How could you stoop so low?
Even if you dislike the girl, arranging such a disgraceful scheme is unforgivable!
What if it hadn’t been Lucas that night?
Have you considered the consequences?
The Marson family’s reputation would have been ruined!"
He let out a long, exasperated sigh.
His finger trembled slightly as he pointed at Emily, veins bulging on his contorted face.
Lucas let out a cold chuckle, crossing his arms as he cast a disdainful glance at Emily.
The corner of his thin lips curled into a smirk.
"If anyone dares to lay a finger on my woman,
I’ll make sure they get a taste of their own medicine."
His words struck Emily like a slap, her face flushing crimson.
Her lips pressed together so tightly they nearly drew blood, her chin quivering uncontrollably.
"Lucas, that’s going too far!" Mr. Williams interjected cautiously, not daring to raise his voice at his son—especially with the two heads of the Marson family present.
A public clash would only leave him humiliated.
"Is that any way to speak to your step mother?
She simply made a mistake in a moment of weakness.
Since things have already backfired, let’s just drop the matter."
