Chapter 182: caught Lucas Cheating with Nathalie
A week was more than enough time for her.
For the past two days, Lucas had been returning late every night, and by the time she woke up in the morning, he was already gone.
"Mission accomplished!" Beauty stretched her arms high above her head as she rose from her chair. ...
Eager to show off her design sketches, she quickly changed into a professional suit and headed straight for the director’s office—only to find out he wasn’t even in today.
Just as she turned to leave, another assistant from the director’s office hurried over upon spotting her.
"Beauty, the CEO specifically asked for you to see him the moment you got back."
Him?
She wasn’t even his assistant anymore—what could he possibly want?
A faint crease formed between her brows, but she still managed a polite smile.
"Got it, I’ll head there right away.
Thanks!"
She adjusted her shoulder-length hair in the mirror, deliberately leaving the small scar near her temple exposed.
She knew Lucas softened every time he saw that little caterpillar-like mark.
If he ended up disliking her designs, at least he wouldn’t tear her apart completely.
Her heart pounded like a drum, the nervousness even worse than when she’d approached the director’s office earlier.
The elevator doors slid open, and she stepped out, only to pause in confusion.
Not a single assistant was stationed outside his door.
Normally there would at least be an assistant on duty, but today the office was completely empty.
Could he be away from the office right now, or perhaps in a meeting?
After hesitating for a couple of seconds, she decided to wait for him in his office.
But the moment she pushed the door open, she was met with the sight of two figures tangled together.
From her angle, it looked like Nathalie was biting his neck. A loud *thud* echoed through the silent office as the folder in her hand hit the floor.
Both of them turned their heads at the sound.
Nathalie flashed a smug grin, while Lucas’s face remained as cold and expressionless as ever.
A faint smear of lipstick still lingered on his neck.
Disgusting.
Beauty didn’t even bother picking up the scattered design drafts.
She bolted, rushing into the elevator and slamming the doors shut behind her, desperate to put as much distance as possible between herself and that revolting office—and the shameless pair inside.
"Lucas, I really do love you!" Nathalie’s tears streamed down her face as she clung desperately to Lucas’s arm, refusing to let go.
Several buttons of her blouse had come undone, revealing pale skin beneath.
"You’re drunk," he said coldly.
"This is the first and last time.
Don’t think dressing like Amelia and copying her makeup will ever make me interested in you.
I’m warning you—don’t push my patience."
His eyes filled with disdain as he took in her flushed face, her expression dazed as if she’d been drugged.
Without another word, he wrenched his arm free, not caring whether she stumbled or if her knees slammed against the coffee table.
Then he strode out the door, chasing after the one who had just fled.
He knew Beauty’s temperament all too well.
After witnessing today’s scene, no amount of explanation would ever convince her now!
Damn it all!
What on earth had possessed him to hire Nathalie in the first place?
Just because she bore a faint resemblance to Amelia, he hadn’t immediately rejected her subtle advances—part of him had wanted to see that little hedgehog of his get jealous over her.
Now he was truly playing with fire and getting burned.
Lucas slammed his fist against the wall, his hand trembling with fury.
He must have been out of his mind to keep her at arm’s length on purpose, trying to test whether her feelings for him ran just as deep.
And now he had finally seen it—seen her utterly heartbroken, shattered because of him.
But he wasn’t happy.
Not one bit.
Instead, he was filled with regret, wishing he could drive a knife into his own chest.
The moment Beauty stepped out of the company, she hailed a taxi.
Without giving a destination, she simply told the driver to take her around the entire city of New York.
Tears streamed down her cheeks in silence.
By the time Lucas rushed out after her, she was already gone.
The security guard at the entrance only said he’d seen her get into a cab, which made the veins on Lucas’s forehead bulge with frustration.
She had no idea how long they had been driving in circles around paris.
Only when evening fell and crowds of people strolled along the riverside did she finally ask the driver to let her out.
She paid the fare and was about to leave when the middle-aged driver gave her a kind look. "Little girl," he said gently, "there’s no hurdle in life you can’t overcome.
Life is short—don’t do anything foolish, alright?"
His words caught her off guard.
After a stunned pause, she suddenly burst into laughter.
So the driver, seeing her cry the entire ride until her eyes were swollen, and now dropping her off by the river, had assumed she was going to drown herself.
Jump into the river—for that scumbag?
She wasn’t that foolish. Beauty was destined to become a world-class design master—she’d never throw her life away over some man!
Suddenly, she remembered the scattered design drafts left in the office—her painstaking work over five days, all abandoned in Lucas’s office without even a backup.
Had he seen them?
Ugh!
Why was she even thinking about that scumbag?
Who cared if he saw them?
It wasn’t any of her business.
Those designs weren’t meant for him anyway.
A gentle breeze drifted along the riverbank, where young couples strolled hand in hand.
This had once been her idea of the perfect life—walking along the water with someone she loved, feeling the cool river air.
Such a simple, peaceful joy.
Yet she had never met the man who would walk here with her, fingers intertwined.
Lucas was the untouchable titan of paris, hounded by flashing cameras and ers wherever he went.
Even a casual meal out could draw a crowd of photographers, yet he remained perpetually indifferent.
They said men with thin lips were cold and heartless—did Lucas fit that description?
Perhaps in his eyes, she was nothing more than an insignificant figure.
Then, another face surfaced in her mind—gentle as jade, though it hadn’t appeared in her dreams for so long she had nearly forgotten him.
A young man in a white shirt caught her eye, his silhouette vaguely reminiscent of Dyson from years ago.
Her gaze lingered, almost hopeful—until he turned around, and she stifled a laugh at her own foolishness.
So much time had passed.
He wouldn’t still be that graceful young boy.
How had life treated him all these years?
If there was one person she had wronged in this life, it was him.
If not for her, Lucas would never have sent him abroad, cutting him off from home and his mother for so long.
She hadn’t even visited his mother recently, too caught up in work.
With that thought, she flagged down a taxi and headed toward the riverside neighborhood.
