Chapter 187: She is a home breaker
Lucas didn’t release Beauty until she was nearly breathless from the kiss.
Licking his lips with a sly glint in his eyes, he finally pulled away.
"Didn’t you get enough kissing Nathalie just now?
Why come after me?"
Beauty bit out each word, her brows furrowed in displeasure.
Lucas chuckled lowly, the sound only fueling her irritation.
The mere thought of that woman clinging to him made her skin crawl.
His slender fingers wrapped gently around her hand as he murmured by her ear,
"There’s really nothing between me and Nathalie.
She hugged me from behind out of nowhere—I didn’t even have time to react before you saw.
It wasn’t what you thought."
His heart twisted with guilt as his gaze fell on the wound on her knee.
If he had known things would turn out like this, he never would’ve played hard to get.
Now the woman he loved was hurt, and another man had swooped in to comfort her.
No more of this nonsense—from now on, he’d keep her close and make sure she never suffered even the slightest harm again.
"Oh really?
How do I know you’re not lying to me again?
Lucas, your credibility with me is at zero right now."
Beauty arched a delicate brow, her wide eyes glaring at him as her lips pursed slightly.
The soft swell of her mouth, still red and slightly swollen from his earlier bite, only deepened her embarrassment.
"What did you just say?
Say it again!"
The amusement vanished from Lucas’s face in an instant.
He seized her wrist, his voice dropping to a dangerous growl.
"I said—"
Before she could finish, he leaned in again.
Flustered, she turned her face away, leaving his lips to brush only the burning heat of her earlobe.
Beauty’s body trembled violently, her cheeks flushing crimson like fire.
Lucas smirked triumphantly.
"What’s wrong?
Cat got your tongue?"
"You are a shameless jerk!"
She gritted her teeth in frustration, but with her knees throbbing in pain, she couldn’t even move, let alone retaliate.
Helpless, she could only endure his teasing. "Just stay put in the hospital for the day.
I’ll pick you up tonight," he said, his tone brooking no argument.
"And don’t even think about going to the office for a while.
I’ve got a meeting soon, but if you’re bored, call a friend to keep you company—just not that Dyson guy.
If he shows up, I’ll have him thrown out."
His words were a clear warning, leaving no room for misunderstanding.
Stay away from Dyson—or else.
Beauty nodded reluctantly, muttering under her breath, "If this were the past, I’d actually think you were jealous."
"Damn right," he shot back.
"Jealous or not, you’re mine.
Keep your distance from other men."
Glancing at his watch, he leaned down and planted two quick kisses on her cheek.
"Get some rest," he murmured.
"I’ll come see you once I’ve wrapped things up."
She watched as Lucas strode out of the hospital room, only exhaling deeply once the door clicked shut.
The room instantly felt emptier, quieter.
As expected—without him around, boredom crept in.
She dialed her best friend, Hannah, who happened to be off work that day.
The moment Hannah heard she’d been hospitalized after a fall, panic set in.
"Are you okay?
What happened?" Hannah demanded, her voice laced with worry.
After Beauty reassured her, Beauty, finally let out a relieved sigh.
Less than twenty minutes later, she pulled up to the hospital.
Beauty was watching TV when the sound of hurried footsteps told her the little spitfire had arrived.
She turned her head with a radiant smile, revealing a perfect row of pearly white teeth.
"Beauty, how can you still smile like that?
Look at the state you’re in!
Where’s that Uncle of yours?
How could he just leave you here like this?"
Hannah’s willow-leaf brows furrowed slightly as she mentioned Lucas’s name, her expression clearly displeased.
Beauty quickly pulled her friend down onto the sofa by the bed, chuckling lightly.
"Boss Marson had to return to the office.
He’s a busy man—can’t expect him to hover around me all day.
That’s why I called you over.
This hospital is unbearably dull."
"Then tell me, how did you end up in this state out of nowhere?
Did you tumble down your stairs at home?"
Hannah eyed the bandages around Beauty’s knees suspiciously, her forehead creasing slightly as she spoke in a hushed tone.
Beauty sighed and recounted the incident with Nathalie at the office.
The moment Hannah heard, she practically jumped out of her seat.
"Holy crap!
That woman has no shame, openly seducing someone else’s husband in public!
No wonder she gave me bad vibes during the interview—total vixen energy.
Turns out she’s a homewrecker!"
Beauty immediately clamped a hand over her friend’s mouth.
Beauty had loose lips, and if word got around at the company, Nathalie wouldn’t let her off easily.
Blinking rapidly, Beauty coaxed in a low voice, "I’m not even mad, so why are you fuming?
Don’t go blabbing at work.
If she finds out we’re close, your job will be on the line."
"Who cares about the job?
I can’t stand that woman anyway!"
Though Hannah usually came across as scatterbrained and unreliable, she always had Beauty’s back when it mattered.
A warm feeling spread through Beauty’s chest.
In this world, people who genuinely cared for her were few and far between.
Having even one steadfast friend by her side felt like a stroke of incredible luck.
She accepted a grape Hannah fed her, dabbing her lips with a tissue before looking up with a soft smile.
"Of course I know you’re on my side.
But why throw away good money?
Besides, don’t you want to become a top-notch designer?
This is your golden opportunity—grab it while you can.
Opportunities like this don’t come knocking twice!"
"But that woman is truly insufferable!
She acts like every man in the world is head over heels for her.
She’s been stringing along with several guys in our company—just seeing her makes my blood boil!"
Hannah complained with a scowl, her face flushed with irritation.
What had started as mere dislike had now turned into outright fury after discovering the woman had become the other woman in her best friend’s relationship.
Her eyes burned red with anger, making her look like an enraged little bunny—adorable yet fierce.
Beauty suppressed a soft chuckle.
"Just focus on doing your job well.
Once you’ve settled in there, if Lucas happens to be in a good mood one day, I’ll find a way to get you transferred to headquarters.
How does that sound?"
"Of course that sounds amazing!
I’ve been dreaming of joining Marson Corporation as a designer!
Oh, Beauty, you’re the absolute best! I don’t even know how to thank you!"
In an instant, the mention of such a golden opportunity made Hannah completely forget about Nathalie’s scandalous affair.
Her mind was now entirely occupied by visions of working at Marson Corporation, leaving Beauty both amused and exasperated.
