Chapter 66: The truth about Lucas Marson
Laura and Tina were both frightened by her aura, especially Laura, who had experienced her brute strength.
Her small face turned pale, and after a while she lifted her chin and said, "Don’t think we’re scared of you.
Tina and I are well-bred young ladies, unlike you, a boorish girl.
Tina let’s go."
With that, they walked arm in arm toward the ticket check, leaving Beauty without the slightest mood to watch a movie after their commotion.
Her hair was sticky from the popcorn, so she decided to take a bath and change her clothes.
Thinking that she would have to deal with these two women at the school, seeing them everywhere, gave her goosebumps.
Even though she never tried to provoke them, if they picked on her, she wouldn’t abide by that.
When she returned to her room, Beauty picked up her grandfather’s photo from the dresser and sat down on the floor with her legs crossed.
In the blink of an eye, her Grandpa had been gone for three years, but his smile, his voice, and his tender care for her were vividly replayed in her mind.
"Grandpa, this is my college admission letter.
I got into the best university in the city.
I passed the test by my own strength."
Beauty carefully opened the admission letter, and tears rolled down her cheeks.
It had been a long time since she had cried.
No matter what happened, she used to insist on not shedding a tear.
Today, she was bullied by Laura and Tina and, feeling wronged, cried.
"Grandpa... Beauty really misses you.
I want to go back to Chicago.
That’s the most beautiful place."
As she spoke, she wiped the tears from her face.
Suddenly, she thought that this holiday was her free time given by Lucas, so she could also move to the old house to live for a few days.
As long as she could escape this place, even if it was just for a few days, it would be enough for her.
The airplane landed at the City Airport.
Everything around was so familiar, but she was the one who had changed.
A statement came into her mind, "Time changes, people change."
Beauty, dragging her suitcase, got into a taxi and gave the destination that she had been longing for these three years.
Looking at the scenery and pedestrians outside the window, her heart was filled with mixed feelings.
The old house still stood as it used to, even though her grandfather was no longer there, but everything inside remained unchanged.
The housekeeper would clean the house every few days, keeping everything in its original state.
"Miss, you’re back.
You must be tired from your journey."
The moment the cook saw her arriving home, he immediately and warmly helped carry her luggage up to her room.
Flowers in the courtyard were in full bloom, vibrant clusters of crimson.
"Miss, the boss was here a couple of days ago.
He stayed for a night and then left.
It’s a coincidence that you came back today, the old house has been quite lively lately."
Beauty was surprised for a moment.
She didn’t expect that Lucas had just been here, and had even stayed overnight.
"Which room did he stay in? Could you show it to me?"
She was surprised at her own words.
Why would she want to see that crazy guy’s room?
Suddenly, her ears tingled with a blush.
However, the butler uncle didn’t think too much, enthusiastically leading her into the bedroom on the third floor.
This room is just across from the room she used to live in, and in all the time she lived in this old house, she’d never seen Lucas.
If he had visited, she would definitely remember.
The room isn’t big, but it has a large floor-to-ceiling window which perfectly overlooks the surrounding moat.
The view is pleasant, sunlight pouring in through the black-and-white checkered curtains cast dazzling circles of light on the floor.
The room’s decor is much like Marson’s villa and is clearly owned by someone who has both OCD and cleanliness obsession.
Everything is neatly arranged; the black bookcase is filled with books of various genres, the majority of them are thick stacks of business management books.
Beauty’s gaze was attracted by a modest photo frame; the photo inside had a vintage feel to it.
Except for the looks, the boy wearing a white shirt in the photo has not much in common with the current Lucas.
His aura seems like a whole different person.
Nowadays, Lucas exudes a cold aura around him, which keeps people at bay.
But back then, he seemed very cheerful, with warm and gentle eyes.
If it were not for the similarity of their faces, which is about 80%, it was tough to link the two as the same person.
The photo featured a family of three.
The lady in a white long dress had soft and charming eyes; the man was absolutely handsome.
Indeed, only such attractive parents could give birth to a stunning human being like Lucas.
"That woman.... doesn’t look like Laura’s mother!
Could it really be that Laura isn’t Lucas’s biological sister?"
Beauty’s brow twitched at the thought.
No wonder the two people looked and behaved differently, this can finally be explained.
But where is Lucas’s mother?
With this question in mind, it wasn’t until dinner time that Beauty posed it curiously to the butler.
"I thought the Miss knew already!"
The butler squinted slightly, his face showing a hint of sigh, as if reminiscing about the past.
He knit his thick eyebrows together, looking somewhat conflicted.
Beauty swallowed a mouthful of rice, her eyes widened in anticipation of the butler’s story.
Every day here was too boring, but the arrival of someone to chat to seemed to also lift the butler’s spirits.
"The Miss was the most beloved daughter of late grandpa.
When she was married to Mr. Marson, grandpa was not very willing.
He always thought Mr. Marson was a somewhat difficult man, but the Miss was very in love with him at the time, so late grandpa’s opposition was to no avail.
Later, they had Mr. Lucas, but after marriage, the relationship between Mr. Marson and the Miss were not very good."
Beauty’s eyes widened even more, and she simply put her spoons down on the table, waiting for the butler to continue.
She was exceedingly curious about Lucas’s background.
"The Miss suffered from depression and committed suicide."
Silence fell.
It felt like a heavy hammer had just struck Beauty’s head from behind.
Her mind was buzzing.
She had no idea that Lucas was also a person with an unfortunate family background.
No wonder his character later became so caustic, cunning, and ruthless.
Suddenly, she understood him a little better.
People who grow up in such a family often carry some psychological burdens.
"No wonder it’s so twisted!"
Beauty thought to herself in silence.
Just like her, dangling on the sea like a piece of duckweed, her fate and life at the mercy of the heavens.
A sudden gust of wind might sweep across at any moment, pulling her into the deep sea, and vanishing as if she had never existed in the world.
There was a downpour that night, with the rain hitting the windows and making a pattering sound, while the plantain trees outside rustled in the wind.
Beauty rotated her body, with the butler’s sigh echoing in her ears.
Lucas’s cold and dark face came to mind, persisting until she fell asleep.
Having lived in the old house for nearly half a month, during which she spent carefree days planting flowers and pruning branches with the butler, alas, good times never last long.
When she received the call from Lucas’s assistant, she was sitting by the city moat feeding ducks.
Her hand jerked suddenly, and her cell phone almost slipped into the water.
