Chapter 76: Grandma approval of their relationship
"Are you alright?"
Looking at the fresh wound on the back of his hand, Beauty immediately grabbed his wrist, her eyes filled with concern.
"It’s just a minor injury, nothing to worry about."
Lucas didn’t take the wound seriously, calmly taking out a handkerchief from his pocket to bandage the wound.
The old lady sitting on the other side couldn’t bear to see this anymore.
She immediately stood up, her wrinkled face hardened, "Since this girl has become Lucas’s woman, no matter how unwilling you all are to accept her, it won’t change anything.
I trust in my grandson’s judgment."
Grandma spoke up, leaving Williams blushing.
She tightened her grip, staring coldly at Beauty, "Since Mom said so, I won’t say anything else.
But to enter the Marson family, one needs to have a clear and pure background.
How can a girl with an unknown origin enter our home?"
Beauty nodded his head, his eyes coldly sweeping over her, "Young lady, I heard you’re an orphan.
I wonder where you’re from, do you still remember?"
Beauty, was immediately stunned, her head buzzing. It had been so many years, she had almost forgotten everything from the past.
Being reminded of it now was like being pushed back into a freezing ice cellar, her body filled with chills.
Sensing her unease, Lucas coldly retorted, "I’ve acknowledged her as my woman.
Regardless of her past, what I care about is our future.
You don’t need to trouble yourself with investigating her background.
If I find out anyone’s been doing this behind my back, don’t blame me for forgetting about family ties."
He intentionally raised his voice at the last sentence, his deep gaze coldly sweeping over Emily and Williams leaving their faces pale.
"Grandpa, Grandma, do you have anything to say to me and my woman?"
For Lucas, he cares more about the thoughts of the two heads of the Marson family.
Even though the old man is usually obstinate and difficult to deal with, he hasn’t spoken a single word of objection these past few days, which means he is quite satisfied with his granddaughter-in-law.
Grandpa maintained a stern expression, scrutinizing Beauty closely.
He began to speak, "Since you’re the one Lucas has chosen, I trust his vision.
But, I’ll still have to observe for a while before considering this matter.
At least until the adoption contract has expired."
At least Grandpa wasn’t as vehemently opposed as Williams and his wife.
Lucas, this was akin to a stay-out-of-jail card.
"Yesterday was quite tiring for everyone, isn’t it?
And I reckon no one has eaten yet today.
I’ve already instructed the chef to prepare lunch.
Let’s all stay here and eat together.
No one is leaving, otherwise, it would be quite disrespectful towards this old woman."
Grandma Marson may be a woman of age, her hair now entirely white, but the prestige of being the matriarch of the family still lingers.
One could tell that she was quite a beauty in her youth.
Even if Williams and Emily felt dissatisfied, they could not voice out their concerns at this point.
After all, the old man is present.
Any more protests, and they might just get expelled from the villa, along with their belongings.
This wouldn’t be the first time, such expulsions were not uncommon whenever there was a disagreement with Grandpa.
Now, they have no choice but to swallow the harsh pill of reality.
Persisted by Beauty, Lucas agreed to let her accompany him upstairs to treat his wound.
"Thank you... for what happened earlier."
Beauty placed the medical supplies into the medical box, brought her lips together, and murmured her gratitude.
Her chin was lifted, their eyes met.
Lucas elegantly raised his eyebrows: "What for?"
This left her speechless.
She didn’t know what to thank him for.
After all, she was the calculated one, the victim, why would she thank him?
A corner of his eye flashed with a cold smirk,
"If you’re thanking me for helping you get rid of those who were investigating your background, there’s no need.
After all, you are now mine.
I hardly managed to pull you out of the shadows of your childhood, how could I let others push you back in?"
Beauty, bit her lips, momentarily stunned.
The man standing before her seemed to have a scary ability to see into the depths of her heart, to know of her unease and terror, and even read her thoughts.
It was downright terrifying.
Perhaps, when he decided to help her reborn, he had her background thoroughly investigated.
After all, he wouldn’t randomly intervene to save an individual of unknown identity and bring trouble to himself.
Although her background was not the best, it was crystal clear, not bringing any negative impacts to him.
As a businessman, how could he, Lucas, fail to consider what even Emily could think of?
"Don’t worry, nobody would dare to bully you with me around, nor would anyone dare to remove you from my side."
He used such serious wording that Beauty felt a chill run down her spine, as if she had plunged into an ice cellar.
Icy terror spread throughout her body.
The family dinner was relatively peaceful.
Emily had a cold face throughout and didn’t say a word.
It was so still that it seemed time had stopped.
She looked at the delicious food on the table.
When chewing, it tasted like wax, flavorless.
On the contrary, the elderly patriarch seemed to be in a good mood, sauntering in the garden and fishing around the villa area after finishing his meal.
"Lucas, could you come to the study?
Daddy has something to discuss with you."
Only after the two elders left did Lucas straighten his clothing hem, his face icy as he glanced at Emily And then glanced back at Beauty, then coldly uttered a "Hmm," before heading upstairs.
Emily had been on the verge of losing her temper for quite some time now, but considering the presence of others, she had endured silently until this moment.
Now, only she and Beauty were left in the hall.
Just as Beauty was about to ascend the stairs to her room, she was coldly summoned by Emily.
Her face was full of mockery and contempt: "I didn’t think someone as young as you could be so capable.
You really think that hiding behind makeup means others can’t see your shameless antics?"
"What shameless acts have I committed?"
Beauty turned around, meeting her gaze without showing any weakness.
Her eyebrows shot up, and a cold glint flashed across her face.
She seemed so different from the usual pure and harmless girl she appeared to be.
"You’ve been trying to seduce Lucas and play the lady of the Marson family.
You think I can’t see these disgraceful acts of yours?"
Emily showed no mercy, a cold smirk appearing on her face.
Straightening her back, she continued: "Do you really believe that Lucas loves you and wants to marry you?
Don’t be foolish, Beauty.
He’s just looking for a thrill and some flirting.
How could a man like Lucas marry a wild girl with unclear origins?
He’s merely using you to evade the blind date arranged for him by our old man.
The elder has also figured it out, hence his calm demeanor."
