Chapter 78: Samuel and Beauty’s Misunderstanding
Now, she truly understood what freedom was.
She looked into the mirror and tied her chestnut-brown hair into a bun, donned herself in casual attire, and she served a different look from the image she maintained in front of the media.
This was, in fact, the real Beauty.
Samuel’s white Bentley was parked not far from the villa.
Although the morning sun was not burning hot, she chose to wear sunglasses.
She looked full of energy.
Not far away, she saw Samuel standing in front of the car in his white sportswear, wearing a light smile on his face.
"Sorry, I kept you waiting."
Beauty took off her sunglasses, revealed a light dimple smile to him.
The sunlight shone in her eyes, like a blooming flower.
This was her first time getting a ride from Samuel.
He would always be picked up by his family’s driver in the past, and like her, he did not even get the chance to greet her.
Sometimes, she’d sympathize with Samuel.
Although he was hailed as the "Prince of Piano" at a young age, he never truly tasted freedom.
"It’s okay, you don’t need to practice piano today.
Since your birthday, I have not seen you.
Therefore, I thought of inviting you to have some fun in the amusement park as neither of us has been there before."
Beauty wore a mild smile.
She had actually been there once before when her grandfather took her there when she lived in Chicago.
Back then, she was only twelve or thirteen, full of innocence.
In the blink of an eye, she was already twenty, yet her eyes were filled with melancholy.
"The way you drive looks kind of cool, quite different from other drivers."
Beauty turned her face to look at his hand on the steering wheel, her lips curled up into a smug peek.
She had seen Lucas drive, his posture and actions were extremely steady and experienced.
However, Samuel in front of her was much more flamboyant, especially cool.
Samuel raised his eyebrows and smiled, "I learned car racing when I was a teenager from an older brother.
The way he drove was imposing and overwhelming, compared to him, I was nothing.
However, my family later felt that learning piano had more prospects, they thought the racing field was too dangerous, so I stopped learning it."
His clear eyes flickered with a ripple of sadness, a fleeting sorrow that didn’t escape her notice.
Perhaps they empathise with each other because both of them have no control over their own lives.
Suddenly, Samuel turned his head and looked at me, his eyes filled with affection and delight, "Beauty, true happiness is the ability to do what you want.
I hope you can control your own future."
"I also hope that I can choose to do what I like, but life often forces me to do otherwise."
Beauty lowered her head, her voice barely a whisper.
She felt his gaze, burning and intense.
But in the end, he swallowed the words he intended to say.
There was a hint of bitter humor and sarcasm in his eyes, unnoticed by Beauty as she was engrossed in her own world.
The car stopped in front of the amusement park.
Because of the holiday, the amusement park was crowded.
In addition to children playing with their parents, there were also many couples.
Beauty put on her sunglasses, looking at the tall amusement facilities, she felt dizzy, she has had acrophobia since childhood, so she never dared to try those exciting and dangerous high-altitude projects.
"Beauty, how about we try the most thrilling ferris wheel?
I see many people are lining up there, it must be fun."
Following Samuel’s gaze, she spotted the machine resembling a giant windmill.
People were thrown around, feeling as if they were about to be flung out.
She shivered at the sight.
In the scorching summer, she felt a chill down her spine.
She immediately shook her head and looked at him, "That’s way too frightening!
How about we go on the merry-go-round instead?
It seems quite romantic."
As soon as the words left her mouth, she realized something was off.
Because she saw that Samuel’s earlobes were actually a bit flushed.
He immediately smiled, took her hand, and headed straight to the merry-go-round.
All she was trying to imply was that this ride was safer compared to the other ones, and it wouldn’t make her break out into a cold sweat.
At this point, no explanation seemed sufficient.
When she saw Samuel pulling her, his eyes revealed a hint of hope, as if an ancient, old lamp was touched twice, suddenly emitting a dazzling glow.
"I heard that the two people on the merry-go-round are always in a state of pursuit.
Beauty, may I pursue you?"
... "Huh?
What did you say?
It’s too noisy here, I couldn’t hear."
The merry-go-round’s cheerful music and the children’s clamorous shouts echoed in her ears, as overwhelming as a gust of wind.
She couldn’t hear what Samuel said at all, only seeing his lips moving, his face slightly flushed.
Just as he gathered the courage to speak again, the music suddenly stopped, and a group of children rushed towards the exit.
The noisy sounds once again silenced him.
It wasn’t until she had tried various fun and not too thrilling rides, with a satisfied face and a tired body, she went with him to hide in a dessert shop to eat ice cream.
"Beauty, there’s something I want to tell you."
Samuel gathered his courage once again, looking at her with bright eyes.
A shy smile bloomed on his handsome face, as if he had finally made a resolution.
Beauty detected a whiff of ambiguity, which gave her pause.
She immediately pursed her lips and looked at him, "In fact, there is something I also want to tell you.
I really enjoyed coming to the amusement park with you today.
You’ve always been protecting me like a big brother, I feel that..."
Samuel’s face abruptly changed, forcing her to swallow the words she was about to say.
He looked down with an apologetic expression, restlessly stirring the wooden spoon in his cup.
"Is it because of Lucas? He indeed has wealth and power, probably there’s not a woman in the entire city who wouldn’t want to be his woman!
Beauty, I thought you were different from those greedy and vain girls."
After Samuel finished speaking, he showed a bitter smile.
His eyes were no longer passionately fiery but were filled with scorn and coldness.
This was the Samuel she had never seen before, so strange that it scared her.
She bit her lip, "That’s not it, you should know me..."
"Laura has already told me everything.
I also listened to the recording.
I didn’t expect you to be such a shameless woman."
Shameless woman... She didn’t know how many times she had heard these words recently, but she never expected that one day her trusting ’older brother’ would say such things to her.
What hurt more was not these words, but his deeply disdainful and contemptuous expression when he said them.
It was like a sharp knife being plunged into her heart, causing her so much pain that she could hardly breathe.
