Chapter 83: Chapter 47 Gynecology Expert_2
It was the master gynecologist who had once served in the palace; she could surely save Lady Zhang.
Lian Manman recalled the conversation between Wang Youheng and Shopkeeper Wang just now.
"Brother Youheng, is it very difficult to request Imperial Doctor Shi’s help? Are you... having some inconvenience and difficulty?"
Wang Youheng looked down at Manman with a smile.
"Don’t worry, others might not get his help, but if I ask him, he will definitely agree."
"Really?" Lian Manman looked at Wang Youheng who didn’t seem to be lying, but the implication of Shopkeeper Wang’s words just now was clearly the opposite.
"Of course it’s true," Wang Youheng said.
"Then, Brother Youheng, do you have very important matters to attend to?" Lian Manman asked cautiously. She had heard the coachman’s words when she had just caught up with the carriage.
"Hmm, it’s nothing, not a big deal," said Wang Youheng.
Lian Manman nodded, her mind at ease. Of course, it wasn’t until much later that she found out the next day was the sixtieth birthday of Wang Youheng’s grandmother. Because of Lady Zhang’s illness, Wang Youheng stayed in town and missed the celebration of his grandmother’s birthday.
The carriage traveled a distance, turned into a quiet alley, and stopped in front of a small courtyard with a red lacquered wooden gate. People sent by Shopkeeper Wang had already delivered the invitation and gifts, so when they got out of the carriage, the Shi Family’s butler had already come to the door to greet them.
"Third Master Wang, please, our master is waiting for you in the flower hall."
The butler led the way ahead, guiding Wang Youheng and Lian Manman into the garden, through a Moon Gate, and along a pebbled path to the left, to an open hall. By a stone table in the hall sat an old man in pale blue satin robe. The old man was thin and small, with white hair and beard, but his complexion was very ruddy as he was drinking tea.
"Greetings to Uncle Shi," said Wang Youheng, as he and Manman stepped forward and gave Imperial Doctor Shi a deep bow.
Only then did Imperial Doctor Shi slowly put down his teacup and look at Wang Youheng.
"Ah, it’s the virtuous nephew from the Wang Family, how is your father?"
"Thanks to Uncle Shi, my father is in good health. He often speaks in front of me about Uncle Shi, saying that not only are you skilled in medicine, but you are also kind-hearted and a role model for the medical community," said Wang Youheng.
Imperial Doctor Shi laughed heartily.
"You’re a sweet talker, I’m afraid your father doesn’t say that."
"My father holds Uncle Shi’s medical skills in particularly high esteem."
"Did you come to find me with your father’s knowledge?" Imperial Doctor Shi beckoned, and a servant presented the invitation card sent by the Wang Family. Shi looked it over several times, then handed the card to another servant to hold.
"Uncle Shi has seen the invitation!" said Wang Youheng.
"Is there an emergency, and since your father couldn’t come, you’ve come to ask for my help?"
"Uncle Shi knows, my father excels in treating trauma and cold-related ailments. When it comes to gynecological diseases, the person my father respects the most is Uncle Shi. Even if my father were here, it would be hard for him to surpass Uncle Shi," said Wang Youheng.
"Then you should have asked your father to come," said Imperial Doctor Shi, "I have already retired."
This old man truly had a strange personality; he didn’t seem like a doctor who heals and saves people at all. His treatment of Wang Youheng was not like that towards a young relative; it seemed more like he was making things difficult for him.
Lian Manman stepped forward.
"Imperial Doctor Shi, my mother is in grave danger now, please..."
Wang Youheng quickly picked up where Lian Manman left off, "The patient’s symptoms are extremely dangerous. If my father were here, although he wouldn’t guarantee there’s no risk, he would certainly not shy away from treating them, nor find excuses to avoid the issue."
Imperial Doctor Shi looked at Lian Manman, then at Wang Youheng, and chuckled twice.
"You’re trying to provoke me!"
"May I ask Uncle Shi if you dare to go or not? After all, if you fail, it could tarnish the hard-won reputation you’ve built over the years," said Wang Youheng with a smile.
Imperial Doctor Shi stood up, "Enough! If I don’t go, you’ll think I’m afraid."
Imperial Doctor Shi had agreed, and Lian Manman immediately felt a rush of joy in her heart.
"Uncle Shi is indeed warm-hearted," Wang Youheng said.
"Come with me, I want to test you," Imperial Doctor Shi beckoned to Wang Youheng.
"Manman, wait for me here," Wang Youheng said to Lian Manman.
"Mm, Brother Youheng, be careful," Lian Manman said, then lowered her voice, "He has a nasty temper but only responds to provocation, not to submission. If he says anything else, Brother Youheng, you don’t have to hold your tongue." She was worried that Wang Youheng would feel pressured to please Imperial Doctor Shi.
"I understand, Manman."
Wang Youheng followed Imperial Doctor Shi to the study behind the flower hall, while Lian Manman waited in the hall. A servant girl brought her tea, then left.
Lian Manman stood up and looked around the garden. The garden wasn’t large but was arranged with the charm of a rural household. She had a lot on her mind, and after a brief glance, turned around only to be startled by a chubby young boy who had appeared behind her.
"Big feet!" the plump lad said, lowering his head to look at Lian Manman’s feet.
Lian Manman frowned; the little fatty was even shorter than she was, dressed in a treasured blue satin robe, his round body puffing out the robe, looking a good two sizes plumper than her. Although the little fatty was annoying, judging by his clothes, she wasn’t sure of his relationship to Imperial Doctor Shi, and being the bigger person, she let it go.
Lian Manman sidestepped the little fatty and walked toward the stone table, thinking he would lose interest and leave. But she was wrong; not only did the little fatty follow her, but he also grabbed her braided hair.
"Little Apple, how old are you? Come home with me; there’s lots of tasty food and fun things." The little fatty grinned, showing off a flash of dazzling white teeth.
Little Apple? Lian Manman raised her eyebrows; was this Little Fatty flirting with her?
The little fatty grinned, his chubby face squeezing his eyes into slits. Seeing Lian Manman not responding, he tugged at her braid.
Lian Manman felt a sharp pain in her scalp and instantly saw red. She was already worried about Lady Zhang’s wellbeing, and here was Little Fatty pestering her. Did he think she was a sick cat rather than a tiger to be reckoned with?
