A New Plan
At the very rear of the position, the procrastinating trio sat cross-legged on the ground, exchanging silent glances.
Dawn's Light and Yuewu were both wondering how they would make it through this next hour.
Only Gu Yanxi hesitated for a moment before speaking softly, "Is it really okay for the three of us to just sit here and let Cecilia go fight the monsters on her own...?"
"What's not okay about it? That woman is ridiculously strong. The three of us would only drag her down,"
Yuewu replied nonchalantly, fully aware of her role as a freeloader.
"Our mission is just to keep you safe, so let's just stay put,"
Dawn's Light chuckled, then turned to survey the area.
After all, with Cecilia alone, she was more than a match for the combined combat power of the three of them.
"Mm... okay."
Seeing that both of them felt this way, Gu Yanxi could only nod obediently.
Seeing her like this, Yuewu couldn't help but feel another pang of jealousy inside.
Just then, a commotion of panic and alarm suddenly erupted from the frontlines, and many players were shouting "Minotaur".
"What's a Minotaur?"
Gu Yanxi couldn't hold back her curiosity and asked.
It was her first time playing this kind of game, so it was natural not to know.
"Some kind of monster with a bull's head and a man's body, I guess. That's how it is in other online games, at least. I haven't seen one in this game yet,"
Dawn's Light thought for a moment and explained.
"Minotaur, schminotaur! I'm the Pure-Love War God—I'll slay them all with a single strike!"
Yuewu flicked her mist-blue hair and sneered in a low voice.
This topic seemed to have triggered some unpleasant memories for her.
She suddenly remembered that pure-love manga she had seen at Liuba's place, and immediately gritted her teeth in hatred.
Before Gu Yanxi could ask anything else, another wave of terrified shouts rose from the distant frontline, even louder than before.
"Is something happening at the front again?"
Many people looked over in confusion. Dawn's Light had just turned his head when he saw a petite figure with silver hair racing toward them, almost skimming along the ground.
Cecilia! Both Dawn's Light and Yuewu were shocked.
What kind of monster had spawned in this second wave that could send even a humanoid BOSS hunter like her fleeing in panic?
Could there be a world-class boss in this event as well?
When she skidded to a stop, Dawn's Light hurriedly asked, "Cecilia, what happened?"
Chen Zixuan had wanted to throw the question back, but seeing it was Dawn's Light, he replied calmly, "We need to change our plan. For the next hour, all three of you are coming with me."
"Alright."
Dawn's Light didn't press for details about the front, simply asking, "So what are we doing next?"
The silver-haired girl's cherry lips parted as she uttered a single word, "Run."
Dawn's Light blinked—his guess was confirmed. Something had gone wrong at the front.
Yuewu looked left and right and couldn't help but ask, "But the gates are locked. They won't open for another hour. Where are we supposed to run to?"
"Let me clarify."
The silver-haired girl turned to glance behind her, making sure the monsters had not caught up, then continued, "It's not just us running away—I'm taking all three of you with me."
Dawn's Light and Yuewu were both smart; they instantly understood what Cecilia meant.
The second wave of monsters in this event was troublesome, but not to the point of threatening Cecilia herself.
However, it could very well endanger the other three—hence Cecilia had come back to protect them.
Thinking of this, both felt a wave of emotion rise in their hearts.
Yuewu nodded seriously, then thought of a critical question, "Where are we heading next? Somewhere with a lot of people?"
"Wait, let me think."
Chen Zixuan lowered his head, his mind racing.
With the current strength of these players, there was no way they could withstand this monster army—the enemy line-up was simply too fierce.
There were tanks in front soaking up damage, goblin slingers in the back dealing long-range output, and nearly ten thousand monsters forming a perfect phalanx, completely killing the players' last hope of breaking them down piecemeal.
Given goblins' low intelligence, it was hard to imagine them obeying orders so well—it was as if someone from the rear of the army was actually controlling them.
Wait!
The rear? Controlling?
A flash of insight hit Chen Zixuan—in that moment, he caught a single thread of hope for survival from almost despair.
He pondered it a bit more and felt the plan was feasible, then looked up and said earnestly to the others, "I'll take you with me and break through to the back of the monster army. If I'm right, there's someone behind this monster siege controlling them all."
"Are we skipping ahead to kill the BOSS?"
Yuewu stared in disbelief, jaw dropping.
How thrilling was that?
As expected of a top player—their thought process was truly unique.
Dawn's Light considered it as well, then asked after a moment's thought, "You mean, the four of us are going to infiltrate the enemies' lair?"
"Yes," the silver-haired girl nodded slowly and explained:
"Don't you remember, when the first wave of monsters attacked the city, there was the sound of a horn in the distance? I suspect there's someone behind the monsters, controlling their actions. If we can take that person down, maybe we can..."
"End the monster siege ahead of schedule."
Dawn's Light took over the explanation, rubbing his chin as he pondered. The more he thought about it, the more he felt Cecilia's idea was worth a try.
Even if they were wrong and found nothing at the rear of the monster army, they could just find a safe place to hide and quietly wait for the event to finish.
"We don't have any other choice now, so let's go with your plan."
Yuewu had no further doubts and immediately joined Chen Zixuan's side.
From start to finish, to Gu Yanxi, everything they said might as well have been in another language. Since she couldn't understand, she naturally had no objections.
The four quickly got into a new formation.
Cecilia, by far the strongest, took the lead. Dawn's Light and Yuewu, being the more experienced players, took the flanks, each two meters apart, keeping the newbie Gu Yanxi safely protected in the middle.
Once the formation was set, the three of them jogged toward the flank of the position—there, the monsters were fewer, and their chances of breaking through were better.
Along the way, they saw fleeing players everywhere. Even from hundreds of meters away, the procrastinating trio witnessed the carnage at the front for the first time.
A minotaur charged forward, catching up to a player clad in colorful gear. Perhaps the colors provoked it, for the minotaur speared the player with its horns and then tossed them high into the air—over a dozen meters up.
Judging by the player's ear-splitting shrieks, he must have been seriously afraid of heights.
Chen Zixuan silently mourned for him in his heart, but somehow, the player's voice sounded oddly familiar...
It must have been his imagination.
