Reborn as the Vampire Prince at Server Start, I am Invincible-Chapter 79 : At Your Doorstep Soon

Chapter 79

At Your Doorstep Soon
Unfortunately, Chen Zixuan wasn't fond of the "country girl" type, nor did he have any particular interest in Lin Wei.
She was a good girl.
But with all the trouble he was currently entangled in, he thought it best not to drag her down with him.
So, Chen Zixuan withdrew his gaze. While handing over the bowl of rice, he casually said, "Hurry up and eat. We'll hit the road early after breakfast."
"???"
Lin Wei had just intended to thank him, but upon hearing what Chen Zixuan said, her hand, hovering to take the rice, suddenly froze in midair.
"Do you just wish I'd hurry up and die..."
The girl's tone was inexplicably aggrieved.
"Sorry, I'm not very good at talking."
Chen Zixuan immediately felt extremely awkward. Trying to cover it up, he started picking up some food and found a random topic, "Delivering food must be tough, right? You look pretty exhausted."
"Yeah, every noon I have to deliver more than a dozen orders. Sometimes I run into weird customers, it's just so annoying."
Lin Wei sighed, lowering her head and eating small bites of rice.
Weird? When he heard that word, Chen Zixuan couldn't help lifting his head, sneaking another glance at Lin Wei.
Indeed, there were so many old perverts in society nowadays. With a figure like Lin Wei's, it was only natural she would attract some of them.
Thinking about it this way, being a girl really wasn't easy.
Especially pretty girls, who suffered much more malice from society.
Still, he didn't voice these thoughts. Instead, he placed a piece of fish into Lin Wei's bowl and gently comforted, "Idiots exist everywhere. I met plenty when I was working part-time. Just bear with it and it'll pass."
"Mm."
Judging by Lin Wei's response, she seemed a bit surprised by his kindness.
After a short pause, she said, "I know. You were always working part-time last year. You seemed really busy every day."
"We're all just trying to get by."
Chen Zixuan didn't want to talk much about himself. He smiled, then lowered his head and continued eating.
Lin Wei obviously was starving too, burying herself in her rice. Out of shyness, she rarely reached for the dishes.
The two of them stopped talking. The atmosphere, while quiet, was no longer as awkward as at first; instead, there was a subtle sense of harmony.
However, this silence didn't last.
A few minutes later, Lin Wei's phone, which was lying on the table, suddenly lit up as a call came in.
She glanced at the number on the screen, and her face immediately darkened.
She didn't answer.
"Is it from your family?"
Chen Zixuan asked.
"No,"
Lin Wei took a deep breath, looking troubled. "It's from a customer who loves to make a fuss..."
Seeing the panicked look on her face, and recalling his earlier thoughts, Chen Zixuan seemed to piece it together.
"Not going to answer?" he asked.
"Umm..."
Lin Wei hesitated for a long time before finally picking up the phone and pressing the answer button.
From the other end burst out a duck-like voice, "Damn! What took you so long to answer?!"
"Sorry, I was busy just now. Is there a problem with your order?"
Lin Wei hurriedly explained in a low voice.
"Cut the crap! It's been almost an hour—where's the takeout I ordered? County hospital!"
"County hospital..."
Lin Wei was stunned for a couple of seconds before frantically replying, "I delivered it half an hour ago and called you. You took it then."
"What are you talking about? I didn't pick it up just now. Ten minutes. You bring me another portion." said the voice on the phone.
After that, the caller hung up.
"I did deliver it!"
Lin Wei stared at her phone in a daze, eyes slightly red, her voice anxious and aggrieved.
Chen Zixuan said nothing. He knew there was no way Lin Wei would forget to deliver someone's food.
Besides, from the way the person ended with "bring another portion," it was clear they were targeting Lin Wei because she seemed easy to bully and simply wanted a free meal.
A free meal?
That phrase caused Chen Zixuan to recall what happened at the BBQ place last night—he'd even paid for those four guys' meals.
Now, connecting the dots—county hospital, and that recognizable duck-like voice on the other end—made Chen Zixuan sigh. This really was a small world.
There could be no mistake. It had to be the same four idiots from last night that he'd already taught a lesson.
They really loved to freeload.
From the looks of it, they were probably so broke they were lucky to eat once every three days.
Even though they got beat up last night, they still enjoyed a feast. Today, having tasted the benefits, they wanted to repeat the trick.
So, Chen Zixuan asked Lin Wei, "Four guys, right?"
"Yeah, they all work at an electronics factory nearby. They've ordered from us before. Every time they nitpick—extra fish, extra chili, extra bean sprouts, extra soup, extra rice..."
Lin Wei complained angrily, "Why not just give them a few more free portions?"
But seeing how calm and even slightly amused Chen Zixuan looked, Lin Wei's anxiety began to subside.
"Forget it, I'll go and deliver another set, or they'll me again."
Lin Wei put down her chopsticks and stood up, her voice filled with disappointment.
She finally had the chance to share a meal with Chen Zixuan, only for it to be wrecked like this.
The more she thought about it, the more aggrieved she felt. The girl clutched at the apron on her chair tightly.
At that moment, she heard Chen Zixuan suddenly say, "Sit down and eat. I'll take care of those four."
"No, no! There are more of them, and they're all street punks, while we're students... We can't mess with them."
Lin Wei hurriedly waved her hands. She didn't want to drag Chen Zixuan into this.
In her nervousness, she didn't even notice how Chen Zixuan knew those guys were four in number.
"It's fine. I'm already an old acquaintance of that yellow-haired guy. I even treated him to dinner last night,"
Chen Zixuan said coldly, "Call him back."
"Oh... okay."
Lin Wei was dazed for a moment, then hurriedly picked up her phone and dialed the number from before.
Chen Zixuan took the phone from Lin Wei and expressionlessly put it to his ear.
A few seconds later, the call was picked up.
The duck-like voice was heard once more, "Hey! Why are you calling again? I'm playing Dou Dizhu*. Deliver the food quick, same as before—extra fish, extra chili, extra bean sprouts..."
"Extra rice too?"
Chen Zixuan interrupted with a chuckle.
"Yeah, at least you know. If you skimp, I'll you on the 'So Hungry Yet?' app. Deliver it quickly!"
At that, the yellow-haired guy on the other end was about to hang up.
But as he was about to remove the phone from his ear, a chilling male voice suddenly came through the receiver.
"Yellow Hair, your appetite's not bad. Seems like those two punches last night were too light, huh?"
Yellow Hair shuddered and quickly brought the phone back to his ear. The bruises under his ribs twinged, making him grimace with pain.
"You... you're that guy from last night?!"
After a momentary silence, Chen Zixuan tossed out a final line in a laid-back tone before hanging up:
"I'll be at the hospital entrance soon."
