Chapter 259: I’m eager to see Nathaniel begging for mercy.
Riya saw the familiar car parked across the road. She looked around before heading toward it, her nails digging into her bag. Opening the door, she slipped in. Before she could even settle down properly, the car started running.
She almost hit her head on the dashboard. She gasped in shock, shooting a stern glare at the man behind the wheel. "Are you intending to kill me?"
Zachary didn’t reply. He kept his gaze on the road ahead, driving speedily.
Riya was also furious. She tossed her hair behind her shoulder and fastened the seatbelt. "You shouldn’t have shown up there. What if someone noticed you? Are you no longer afraid of being caught?"
"Humph," he snorted. "I’m not as reckless as you."
"What do you mean?" she barked.
"Are you suffering from memory loss or something?" Zachary chided her. "You made such a blunder at the party last night – tried to kill Mrs. Grant. Yet, you are pretending like nothing has happened."
Riya’s skin tightened with goosebumps. She had thought no one had noticed what she had done. But he knew it already.
"How? How did you know?" Her voice faltered.
"It was a big event for you. How could I not attend the party?"
Riya’s eyes widened. "You-You were at the party last night?" she exclaimed, utterly stupefied.
"Or else? How would I know what you did?" Zachary pulled the car over to the side of the road. He turned to her sharply, fire raging in his eyes. "I know everything you did. You were caught bribing that waitress."
Riya’s hands flew to her mouth instantly, horror flashing in her eyes.
"Instead of apologizing to her and explaining your point, you pushed Mrs. Grant down," Zachary hissed. "She was the only one who supported you in that family without a doubt. But you hurt her. What a clumsy move."
Riya’s fear soon transformed into rage. "Do you think I wanted that?" she retorted. "I tried to explain to her, but she wouldn’t listen. She was ready to expose me. I was terrified and wanted to flee. But I didn’t know such a mishap would happen."
"Yeah, right. You would never know. And just like that, you kept making mistakes. Then...To cover up your mistakes, I have to run around, appoint people to erase your footprints."
Riya’s gaze softened a bit. "So you dealt with the waitress?"
"Or else? Do you think Nathaniel won’t look into this? He had already sent his assistant to check the surveillance. Luckily, I acted before that and destroyed the cameras there, erased the footage. Or you think you could escape?"
"I’m sorry." She lowered her head in shame and guilt. "I was nervous. I didn’t really want to push her. It was an accident. I was only trying to escape. But she twisted her ankle and tumbled down the stairs."
She grabbed his hand, desperation flickering in her eyes. "Please do something. If any of the Grants finds out about it, I’ll be ruined."
Zachary shrugged her hand away. "You are already in grave danger," he muttered. "Gracie’s surgery was successful. She can wake up at any time. And then you will be exposed."
"What?" Riya exclaimed in shock. The revelation fell on her head like a bomb. "Surgery was successful!"
She felt numbness spreading all over her limbs. If Gracie opened her eyes, the first thing she would do would be to talk to Nathaniel. And no one would stop him from sending her to jail.
"Zachary, please," she pleaded, tears threatening to spill over. "Do something. I don’t want to go to jail."
"Now you are scared?" he snorted. "When you were drinking with Liam, you didn’t think about the threat."
"I’m sorry. Please, save me this time. I promise I’ll never act recklessly again."
"Humph..." Zachary would have let her suffer, but he couldn’t do that right now. "I’ve a plan, but you have to execute it. It’s your mess. Clean it up on your own."
"How can I do this alone? I need you..."
"Try to understand," he snapped, his loud voice making her flinch. "I can’t go into the hospital. There is a risk of being exposed. You are the only one who can be among them and carry out the plan without raising a doubt. You can call me if you need anything. Alright? But make sure you do it before that woman wakes up."
He handed her a vial. "Take it. Inject it into her system. She won’t die, but she will not wake up. But make sure you use it in a small dose. Or the blood test may track its trace. Understood?"
Riya’s hand shook. She felt torn between fear of getting caught and the desperation to keep the truth hidden.
"You have to do it," he pressed, clasping her hand as if instilling confidence in her. "And I know you can do it. Once it’s done, Nathaniel will be helpless. To save his mother, he can do anything – even hand over everything he has."
Hope flickered in her eyes. That was what she had been waiting for – bringing Nathaniel down to his knees and making him break ties with Zara. After that, she would find a way to deal with Zachary as well and marry Liam.
She regained her confidence, malice glinting in her eyes. "That’ll be fun," she drawled, holding up the vial and looking at the liquid inside it. "I’m eager to see Nathaniel begging for mercy."
She smiled, her mind racing. She started imagining how Nathaniel would cry in front of her, begging her to save his mother. But she wouldn’t listen to his pleas until he fulfilled all her demands.
’First, I’ll make you kick Zara out of your life. Then you will write all the properties in my name.’
"Stop daydreaming," Zachary’s cold voice snapped her out of her thoughts. "Go to the hospital right away. You have to do this before she wakes up. Do you understand?"
Riya nodded frantically. "I get it."
"Now get out of her car," he barked.
Riya recoiled under his fierce glare. She jumped out of the car in an instant. As soon as she closed the door, the car sped off. She stood there, watching the car disappear from the line of her sight.
"You bastard," she muttered. "You think you can force me always. Once I deal with the Grants, I’ll make you pay."
