Reincarnated as an SSS-Ranked Blacksmith Who Refuses to Forge Weapons-Chapter 150. Ironhaven Falls

Chapter 150

Chapter 150: 150. Ironhaven Falls
The shaking got worse with each passing second. The sounds of panic grew louder outside the Knight’s Station. People yelled, metal hit stone, and a building fell down with a loud crash in the distance.
Greg ran to the window with Tunner, his heart racing. The Calamity was closer now, close enough to see its scary details.
It had grown considerably since they last saw it. Its body was a writhing mass of weapons that were always moving and changing, and it was at least a hundred feet tall.
Swords made arms and legs that were far too long. Axes and spears made armor that covered its torso. And those eyes, which were like swirling whirlpools of purple, silver, and red, looked at the city with a hungry look.
"Everyone out!" Tunner’s voice echoed through the station. "NOW!"
They rushed to the door, but the building shook so much that Elwen lost her balance. Greg caught her before she fell, and Hammy was chirping like crazy on her shoulder. Lylia was already at the door, holding it open as debris fell from the ceiling.
They ran out into the street, which was a complete mess. People ran in all directions, some with their things and some with just the clothes on their backs.
Mining tools were left in the streets. Carts had flipped over, spilling tools and ore all over the cobblestones. Guards tried to keep things in order by yelling instructions, but the panic made it difficult to hear them.
"The tunnels for evacuation!" Tunner pointed to the side of the mountain. "There are emergency routes that go through the mountains to get to the eastern valleys."
"We have to get people to go that way!"
But while he was talking, the Calamity reached the top of the ridge that looked down on Ironhaven.
It was impossible to understand up close. The creature’s head was as big as a building, and its body seemed to fill the whole sky. There were weapons of all kinds on its surface, with thousands of blades and points moving in a natural way.
It opened what could have been a mouth and roared. The noise was so loud that it hurt people’s ears and broke windows. It was a metal scream.
The air itself seemed to shake due to the power of the noise. Then it struck.
Weapons shot out of the Calamity’s body like a shower of steel meteors. Hundreds of blades, spears, and axes flew through the air in perfect arcs, hitting Ironhaven with deadly accuracy.
They hit buildings, ripped through roofs, and got stuck in the street. And as soon as they got there, they started pulling.
A guard’s sword came out of its sheath and flew through the air to join the Calamity’s mass. Workers’ mining picks ripped themselves out of their hands. Even the decorative weapons on buildings came loose from their mounts, all drawn toward the monster.
"It’s calling them!" Lylia yelled over the noise. "All the weapons in the city!"
The people were worse than the weapons that were being absorbed. Greg was horrified to see a blacksmith trying to run away from his creations.
The swords and axes he made started to shine with the same purple silver light as the Calamity. Then the man started to scream as his body changed. Metal shot out of his skin, changing his shape and twisting him.
In just a few seconds, a humanoid shape made entirely of blades had taken the place of a living person. The changed blacksmith jerked up, pulled by unseen strings, and flew through the air to hit the Calamity’s body and become one with it.
"What the hell was that?" Elwen’s voice broke with fear.
Greg said, "It’s not just absorbing weapons anymore," and his stomach turned. "It’s turning people into weapons and then taking them in!"
Further adjustments started to happen. A weapons dealer started to change when his whole stock started to glow before his body did.
Guards who had spent their whole lives training with swords also died. Anyone who had made weapons a big part of their identity became a target for change.
The screams of those undergoing change were overwhelming. They knew what was going on and felt every second of the change. They had just enough time to realize they were about to become part of the monster.
Tunner stood still, his face pale with fear. "This can’t be done..."
"This can’t be happening. Ironhaven should be safe...! We are safe due to the protection provided by the mountains and the distance between us and the enemy."
"By nothing!" Greg took hold of his arm. "We have to go! We need to get people to those tunnels before that thing gets any closer!"
But the Calamity was already on the move. With each step, it moved deeper into the city, crushing buildings under its giant weight.
One footfall made a whole neighborhood disappear. Another one brought down the mining guild’s headquarters. Each destroyed building led to the discovery and use of more weapons.
Tunner’s shock turned into rage. He turned to Greg, his eyes full of anger and fear. "This is YOUR fault! You brought this here!"
"You took that thing right to my city!"
Greg said, "We didn’t lead it anywhere," as he backed away from the Elite Knight’s anger. "It’s been growing and moving by itself."
"We already told you this would happen, but you wouldn’t fucking listen!"
"You said Meridian was being attacked! You never said it could follow people! You never told me it would come here!" Tunner’s grip on his warhammer got stronger. "What number of people will die because you came to Ironhaven?!"
"What would happen if we did nothing?!" Lylia got in between them. "Tunner, I know you’re scared, but blaming others won’t help anyone! We need to focus on getting people out!"
There was an explosion in a building to their left. The Calamity had sent a huge blade, at least twenty feet long, that cut through the building like it was paper. Greg had to raise his shield to protect them from the falling stone and wood.
They saw further adjustments happening when the dust settled. A group of weapon dealers huddled together and turned into a bunch of spears that shot up into the air.
A whole forge full of apprentice blacksmiths turned into a bunch of hammers and tongs that flew to join the Calamity. The monster was specifically going after people who were good with weapons, taking away both Ironhaven’s defenses and its people.
"The tunnels for evacuation are blocked!" A guard who had been shot in the head stumbled toward them. "The tremors made caves fall in! We can’t get people through!"
"Then we go over the mountain," Tunner said in a hollow voice. "There are paths for climbing and rope systems. It will be slower, but it’s the only choice."
"That thing will catch us before we’re halfway up," Greg said as he watched the Calamity destroy another part of the city one by one.
It wasn’t just attacking for no reason. The city was cleared block by block to maximize weapon use.
