Chapter 448: Enemy’s Retaliation (2)
Third Person’s POV
A sense of satisfaction of vengeance coursed through him on seeing this.
His features took on a faint golden hue as thin, glowing blood vessels surfaced beneath his skin.
The stray golden ray continued onward and crashed into the open ground behind Ethan.
The stone path shattered violently, and the beautifully arranged flowers in the garden were obliterated as the ray tore through the area, carving destruction far into the distance before finally dispersing.
Lucy had been thrown far away, but Virelle moved quickly and caught her before the uncontrolled momentum could cause further injury.
Collecting herself from the shock, Lucy looked up at her with grateful eyes, but the relief vanished almost instantly as she turned her gaze back toward Ethan and the sight of him bleeding made her face drain of color.
Her eyes widened in fear and horror as panic overtook her.
"We should save Ethan," she said frantically, her voice trembling.
"At this rate, he will be fatally injured by Jack. You don’t know how dangerous that guy is..."
Hearing her concern, Virelle didn’t even seem to register that Lucy had spoken Ethan’s real name as she simply shook her head and forced herself to remain calm, even as her heart pounded heavily in her chest due to how far the situation had spiraled.
She wasn’t afraid for Ethan’s life as she knew how capable a fighter he was, but she was still deeply worried about the consequences he would have to face for acting first once this conflict reached its conclusion.
Her gaze shifted toward the thin, gray-haired deacon, but she felt helpless when she saw his apathetic expression.
He watched the scene as if it had nothing to do with him, offering no reaction at all, and his indifferent expression was the thing that unsettled her the most.
"Don’t worry, Lucy. Nothing will happen to Big Brother Ethan..."
The sudden voice made Lucy and Virelle turn to the side, and they found Velcy standing beside Virelle with a calm and composed expression, without even a trace of injury on her body.
Her scarred face showed no fear or agitation, and no one around paid the small girl any attention as she quietly watched Ethan.
Lucy was startled by Velcy’s composure.
And what unsettled her even more was the faint trace of obsession she caught in the girl’s gray eyes as she stared at Ethan.
The look made Lucy’s heart tighten slightly, and she instinctively turned her attention back toward the ongoing conflict.
On the square, as Ethan narrowly dodged, Jack’s expression shifted to being unnaturally calm, as if the violent outburst moments earlier had never happened.
The ice encasing his frozen hand melted away in an instant and dripped to the ground and evaporated, though the crushed hand itself hung limply at his side, utterly useless and twisted beyond repair.
Even so, his madness had not faded; instead, the pain only served to amplify it even further.
The golden ray that Ethan had dodged didn’t fade and twisted sharply through the air and instantly realigned itself toward Ethan, following him with frightening precision.
Just as the ray was about to strike him head-on, shrill screams rang out from several girls in the crowd, their faces pale with fear as they couldn’t bear to see Ethan get injured even more, as his handsome appearance and that dominating behavior of his charmed many of them.
At the same time, a number of male onlookers watched with concealed excitement, some even rejoicing silently at the sight of Ethan finally facing retaliation.
As for the deacons, they remained rooted in place, shock still written across their faces, especially the bulky deacon.
He had already rushed forward the moment Ethan had crushed Jack’s hand, only to be halted abruptly by the thin, gray-haired, skeletal deacon.
At the time, the bulky deacon had hesitated while being torn between obeying the senior deacon’s silent authority and seizing the perfect opportunity to curry favor with Jack.
But as if sensing his wavering thoughts, the skeletal deacon had turned his head slightly.
The instant their eyes had met, the bulky deacon had felt a kind of terror he had never experienced before.
Those dull, deathly gray eyes were utterly emotionless, yet they carried an oppressive and powerful pressure that froze him to the bone.
Without a word being spoken, the bulky deacon had backed off, while cold sweat had unknowingly made his shirt fully wet.
Now, however, seeing that the golden ray had already injured Ethan and watching the seemingly unhinged Jack prepare to drive it straight through his chest, the bulky deacon couldn’t help but sneer inwardly.
’Serves you right, dumbass, ’
he thought coldly.
’Acting so arrogantly and high and mighty in front of a noble young demon lord.
This idiot probably doesn’t even understand that demon nobles carry ancient and terrifying bloodlines. Now he will finally pay the price for his ignorance.’
Just as Lucy’s eyes widened in horror, her breath catching painfully in her throat, Ethan showed no visible panic at all.
In the next instant, two massive black wings of condensed darkness burst forth from his back with a heavy, oppressive presence and stirred the air violently around him.
With the sudden appearance of his wings, Ethan’s movements became unnaturally fluid.
He twisted his body just slightly to the side and narrowly avoided a direct hit.
The golden ray tore past his chest and missed it by mere inches, while at the same time, a thick, icy plate rapidly formed over his torso.
The shining golden embers that followed the ray slammed into his body once more, but they were blocked by the icy plate armor.
Sounds of scraping and screeching erupted as they tried to shred through it, even though the ray itself had not made direct contact.
This phenomenon made Ethan sure that if the ray had directly made contact with his body, it would have surely torn straight through his body, and those sharp, lethal needle like attacks would have destroyed a lot of his internal organs.
