For the next two days, the convoy continued wandering through the desert.
Chu Che would frequently get out of the vehicle and mutter incessantly toward certain directions.
Each time this happened, Captain Chu would carry the expectations of countless people.
Then he would disappointedly withdraw his gaze.
Everyone knew Chu Che was searching for a water source.
There were also several survivors in the convoy who had worked in geology before the apocalypse.
But they seemed to offer no real help in locating water.
Everything depended entirely on Chu Che, Captain Chu.
What followed was the rapid depletion of drinking water.
Even though everyone was being extremely frugal, the consumption rate of drinking water still far exceeded expectations.
The daytime heat caused constant sweating even when doing absolutely nothing.
Chen Ye could even feel himself becoming rancid - just rubbing his skin slightly would produce long streaks of black grime.
Under such circumstances, even Xu Lina, who had intentions of pursuing Chen Ye, lost her motivation, spending her days either staying in the vehicle or finding places to rest.
No matter how meticulously this woman maintained herself, her hair still clumped together in strands.
As for the others, none were faring much better.
The pink-haired girl, however, always appeared full of energy.
Every night, she could be seen returning exhausted from outside.
Though he never got close, Chen Ye could guess the woman's scent was absolutely... memorable.
Not everything was entirely bad, though.
At least the countdown for upgrading the Apocalyptic Pickup Truck had dropped to less than thirty hours.
After Xue Nan personally cut his face that day, without any medication, he simply left the wounds exposed to the air.
In just one day, that face had become unrecognizable.
The once nation-toppling, universally attractive face that captivated both men and women had completely vanished.
If someone who knew him before saw him now, they would never recognize him as the former mega-influencer with tens of millions of followers.
Fortunately, this guy was tough as nails.
Without any medication, his spirits remained quite good.
He just spent his rest periods every day cleaning Chen Ye's car.
Of course, cleaning the car didn't involve using water.
Instead, he used his own tattered T-shirt.
After each cleaning session, he would meticulously shake the dust off his T-shirt.
Chen Ye no longer gave him drinking water, though.
After all, Chen Ye wasn't someone overflowing with kindness.
He would only occasionally provide some camel meat.
Not many camels remained alive now.
The survivors had invented a method for making dried meat.
During camping, they would bury freshly slaughtered camel meat in the sand.
After a full day of intense heat exposure, before the blood moon rose, the sand became so hot you couldn't touch it for long.
The moisture in the buried camel meat would quickly separate, making the flesh dry.
The next morning before departure, they would dig out the dried meat buried the previous night.
During the day, both sides of the vehicles were hung with camel meat - in just one day, most moisture would evaporate from what was originally fresh camel meat.
The jerky made this way didn't taste particularly good, but at least it could be stored for extended periods.
This was the best solution under desperate circumstances.
Some survivors who considered themselves gourmets looked down on this crude preparation method.
But they couldn't offer any better suggestions.
Every night, Chen Ye would also practice the Observing the Blood Moon Breathing Technique, feeling his supernatural power growing rapidly each day.
Chen Ye had tested it - while one breath of smoke couldn't yet create a smoke mist covering hundreds of meters.
It could at least produce a smoke mist about seven or eight meters in diameter, which was already vastly improved from before.
If he encountered that Demon Sequence youth again, a few puffs of smoke could disrupt the youth's perception, allowing Chen Ye to quickly seize the initiative.
The smoke mist still had many functions waiting to be developed.
As long as he continued growing stronger like this, the smoke mist would become an absolutely terrifying ability.
January 1, 2031.
According to pre-apocalypse customs, today should be New Year's Day.
Chen Ye glanced at the countdown - only ten hours remained until the Apocalyptic Pickup Truck upgrade completed.
By then, this pickup truck that had been upgrading since its bicycle days would become a Wonder.
Chen Ye held tremendous anticipation for what kind of Wonder the Apocalyptic Pickup Truck would become.
At this moment, Captain Chu Che stood barefoot on a sand dune, the wind blowing toward him making his clothes flap loudly.
Chu Che looked at the simple map in his hand, falling into deep doubt for the first time.
Chen Ye pushed the sunglasses on his nose bridge and scanned the surroundings - only endless yellow sand, nothing else remained.
"Captain Chu, are you actually capable or not?"
Chu Che shot Chen Ye an annoyed look, too lazy to respond.
Below the sand dune, the two-headed Iron Lion sat idly on the dune, looking around left and right, appearing quite simple-minded.
This guy had thick skin and rough flesh - this level of hot sand wasn't really a problem for him.
The pink-haired girl sat at the edge of the vehicle roof, the breeze stirring her pink hair, her dirty face still showing some delicacy.
The newly joined Ding Dong sat cross-legged under a sunshade meditating, her quiet demeanor making her seem quite out of place in the surroundings.
They had camped unusually early today - just past 3 PM, Captain Chu Che had announced they would make camp.
Some survivors were busy curing camel meat.
Others were preparing dinner.
Suddenly, Chen Ye felt the light around him darken, as if a cloud had arrived overhead.
Was this... about to rain?
Chen Ye felt puzzled but didn't sense any moisture in the air.
When he looked up, his eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets.
His entire demeanor abruptly changed, becoming dangerous and alert.
His hand already gripped the machete at his waist, willow branches spreading to wrap around his arm.
"This... what the hell............"
Chen Ye stood dumbfounded, momentarily unable to find words to describe his shock.
Beside him, Captain Chu Che also wore a stunned expression as he looked at the sky.
Iron Lion's second head seemed to have been startled awake by something, joining the other head in looking upward.
The pink-haired girl's mouth hung slightly open, her expression one of disbelief.
As for Ding Dong, who had been meditating, this woman also opened her eyes and looked skyward, her astonished expression no less than anyone else's.
The ordinary survivors fared even worse - many trembled with fear, their legs shaking.
Some continuously kowtowed toward the sky, as if worshiping deities descending to the mortal realm.
Xu Lina was so shocked she dropped the comb in her hand.
Zhou Xiaoxiao had grown considerably thinner recently, her face shape changing from oval to more heart-shaped, making her already large eyes appear even bigger, with an added touch of aloofness about her.
At this moment, this woman looked up at the sky.
Her shocked expression made those eyes appear particularly enormous.
"What is... that?"
Someone managed to squeeze a few words from their throat with difficulty.
"A whale... flying in the sky?"
The person who said this seemed unable to believe they had uttered such words.
