Sequence Highway Survival: I Upgrade Supplies in the Apocalypse-Chapter 136: Everyone, Please Try to Survive

Chapter 136

"They're coming!"
"Lots of them!"
"Everyone, please try to survive!"
Chu Che's low voice came through the radio, heavier than ever.
Silence answered on the other end of the radio.
Chen Ye raised his alertness to the maximum.
Although he'd faced Anomalies several times already, he still couldn't help but feel tense every time he encountered them.
Anomalies could fail countless times, but Chen Ye could not afford to fail even once.
Thick Smoke Breath filled the vehicle, some of it slipping out through window gaps and swirling around the truck like unwilling shadows.
The convoy accelerated again; Chen Ye could even hear the roar of the engines from Chu Che's and the Pink-haired Girl's vehicles.
Chen Ye wasn't about to fall behind—he slammed the gas pedal down.
At that moment, Chen Ye no longer had time to worry about skidding or crashing.
Fortunately, the studded snow tires were doing their job, allowing him to accelerate steadily.
Only by getting back to the school quickly could they survive.
Chen Ye glanced up and saw a humanoid creature crawling down the side of a residential building ahead.
This humanoid hung head-down, feet-up, like a gecko, clinging to the exterior and descending step by step toward the convoy.
This… was a person!
Long hair hung down; judging by body shape and build, it was a woman!
Even stranger, the woman was completely snow white from head to toe—even her clothes were immaculate white.
If not for Superhumans having far better vision than normal people, it would be hard to spot this eerie silhouette so easily.
And it wasn't alone.
Not far away, there was another one!
This one looked much more robust, like a two-hundred-pound fat man, and it too was white through and through.
It seemed to notice Chen Ye's gaze; the fat one lifted its head and roared toward Chen Ye, looking less like a human and more like a monster wearing human skin.
There wasn't a trace of living spirit on its face.
With a quick sweep of his eyes, Chen Ye spotted dozens of similar white figures converging from all directions.
No—dozens were an understatement.
There were hundreds; those white, gecko-like figures on the building exteriors multiplied geometrically.
They kept coming.
Not only from the residential buildings.
From underground sewers, the shops and supermarkets by the roadside, pharmacies, restaurants, hotels…
Places where humans used to gather had become nests for these white crawlers at this moment.
Those people—no, those monsters—had one thing in common!
White—white hair, white eyebrows, white clothes, even white pupils in their eyes!
Everything was white.
These creatures — these monsters — couldn't walk upright properly. Whether they clung to walls like geckos or had already reached the ground,
they moved on all fours, crawling rapidly.
They were thick like a tide, closing in on the convoy.
The scene at that moment was identical to those zombie movies.
"These are… these are crawlers!"
"Followers of the Death God said these people were all residents of Rong City before!"
The Pink-haired Girl's voice trembled over the radio.
"All residents!!!"
Chen Ye's face fell.
If they were all residents, then Rong City's permanent population plus tourists would have long since exceeded a million.
What on earth happened in Rong City?
"Fuck, that would mean a million Anomalies?"
Chen Ye's voice came out dry and hoarse.
"Shhhh…"
A static hiss came over the radio.
Then the Pink-haired Girl's anxious voice: "Chen Ye, everyone, please… please, do try to stay alive!"
No sooner had that plea been transmitted than Chen Ye turned the wheel and broke away from the convoy. The Smoke Breath in the truck bed formed a snow plow, and the flying snow behind him became a waterfall.
The lead vehicle had been the Pink-haired Girl's.
She watched, dumbfounded, as Chen Ye overtook her and took the lead.
Chen Ye had to get back to the school before the crawlers fully surrounded them.
As for the others!
He really couldn't take care of them all!!!
"Damn it… that bastard!"
"Little Fish, hurry, pass him!"
"Cousin…"
Before Little Fish could answer, the Pink-haired Girl felt the whole vehicle shudder, as if something had crawled onto the roof.
Her brows flipped up in alarm; she formed a sword hand sign. "Swift!"
A sword wrapped in sparks shot out through the window.
By then Chen Ye had his foot pressed through the gas pedal.
Yet he drove with astonishing control; in this moment he felt united with the vehicle.
It was a strange sensation—he was so sensitive to every tiny movement that it felt like he had driven this truck for a century, knowing every screw and bolt.
The Apocalyptic Pickup Truck's trait manifested vividly.
The studded snow tires gripped the ground firmly, even though a thin layer of ice covered the road.
Each time the car began to slip, the pickup, under Chen Ye's control, narrowly corrected itself.
"Roar~~~"
A snow-white crawler dropped from above, targeting the Apocalyptic Pickup Truck.
Chen Ye seemed to sense it.
He twisted the truck and dodged the two-hundred-plus-pound fat crawler.
The crawlers were increasing in number.
Chen Ye could still use the pickup's trait to weave among them and avoid the crawling ambushes.
If even one crawler latched onto the vehicle, it would take only one second.
In that instant, countless crawlers would swarm in.
Then it would be certain death.
For now, Chen Ye could hold on.
Those trailing behind him were worse off.
Every crawler Chen Ye evaded collided with the Pink-haired Girl's modified off-road vehicle.
A single crawler couldn't stop her from moving.
But when two, three, or a dozen white figures swarmed her, they could force her modified off-roader to stop.
Once the vehicle was stalled, life or death hung in the balance.
The Pink-haired Girl watched Chen Ye's truck pull farther ahead.
She grit her teeth and, as nimble as a fox, slipped through the open window and jumped out.
Her figure was slender and graceful—she executed the move without a hitch.
"Little Fish, stabilize the car!"
"Chi Yan, swift!"
Standing on the roof, the girl made the sword swirl around her; red flames danced above and below her, lighting her like the heroine from a hot-blooded anime.
She murmured incantations, and with each phrase the crimson flames along the sword swelled.
Chen Ye gaped at the rearview mirror.
The sword transformed into a fierce, dignified fire dragon; even the dragon scales shimmered into view.
The fire dragon lunged at the white crawlers surrounding the vehicle.
When the dragon met those crawlers, it was like the sun meeting fresh snow.
The modified off-roader burst out from the ring of crawlers.
The fire dragon coiled around the roof as the vehicle broke the encirclement.
What remained behind were charred bodies.
A gust of wind scattered them into a heap of black ash.
Chen Ye stared in disbelief. "Holy—this woman… so young and hiding so much?"
But the crisis was far from over.
