From the driver's cabin's back seat, I found a can of cola, a sausage, and a Snickers bar.
I originally wanted to eat a hot meal, but that tool person earlier got eaten by the Goat.
Having me go out to find food now really isn't realistic.
I'll just have to make do with something simple.
The cola's expiration date was nine months, and looking at the production date, it had just a few days left before expiring.
As for the sausage and Snickers bar, they were both already expired.
In the past, this kind of stuff definitely couldn't be eaten—to protect my health and wallet, Chen Ye would choose to throw it directly in the trash.
But now...
These were all hard currency.
Even an expired sausage was enough to make many people fight over it.
I solved the eating problem in a few minutes.
Chen Ye looked around;
morning fog was gradually rising, and even the red sun at the horizon had developed a fuzzy edge, looking hazy and indistinct.
Quite lovely!
The sun was out!
This made Chen Ye very excited.
Ever since entering that heavy snow area, he hadn't seen the sun at all.
Even the surrounding temperature seemed to have risen considerably.
It was just that there was too much fog around, making everything blurry and unclear.
He glanced at the machete's upgrade countdown—still over seventy hours remaining.
"Ah-choo..."
Chen Ye sneezed, checked that the car doors were locked, and then planned to lie down on the back seat to sleep for a while.
The previous high-intensity combat, plus encountering Anomalies along the way, had kept Chen Ye's nerves in a state of high tension.
Even though he was a Superhuman with exceptional stamina, he was starting to feel overwhelmed at this point.
Placing the machete within reach, he found a comfortable position in the back seat, and as soon as he closed his eyes, Chen Ye fell into a deep sleep.
However, after Chen Ye fell asleep...
The morning fog that Chen Ye had assumed would dissipate didn't fade away;
as time passed, the morning fog grew thicker.
The hazy red sun he'd glimpsed earlier was gradually being obscured.
The surrounding visibility was visibly decreasing.
"Bang bang bang!"
"Chen Ye... Chen Ye, are you in there?"
Just as he was sleeping soundly, he suddenly heard someone knocking on the car door. Chen Ye jolted awake from his dreams.
He immediately grabbed the machete in his hand, looking warily out the car window.
A very familiar face stood outside the car window looking at him, but the eyes had no focus.
Waking up to see a face right outside the car—anyone who's experienced this kind of scare knows how terrifying it feels.
The scene was like something straight out of a horror movie.
Although the face was familiar, it was still frightening.
Chen Ye felt all his hairs stand on end and was just about to raise the machete to strike.
"Yezi, you bastard really have nerves of steel, able to sleep in a situation like this?"
Chu Che's voice came through.
Only then did Chen Ye realize, rubbing his eyes and looking carefully—those eyes, those eyebrows, that expression of righteousness mixed with a bit of sleaziness.
It really was Squad Leader Chu Che.
Chen Ye quickly waved his hand to disperse the surrounding mist.
"Holy crap, Squad Leader Chu, you bastard finally came! If you'd been any later, I'd be dead!"
It was then that Chen Ye noticed Chu Che had a rope tied around his waist.
Probably because when Chu Che entered this mist, he lost all his senses, effectively becoming blind, so he'd tied the rope around his waist as a safety measure.
With Chen Ye dispersing the mist, Squad Leader Chu could finally see clearly that it was indeed Chen Ye's vehicle in front of him, with a familiar person inside.
Earlier, Chu Che had followed the Marking to this location and noticed that this particular mist was different from the surrounding fog.
Chu Che was naturally very familiar with this kind of mist, so he decided to enter and search.
But as soon as he stepped in, he found that aside from a vast expanse of white mist, he couldn't see anything, and even the white noise in his ears had disappeared, leaving an eerie silence.
Chu Che guessed this might be Chen Ye's ability. To avoid shouting and attracting other Anomalies, Chu Che decided to enter the mist to search.
That's why he made the decision to tie a rope around his waist.
After groping around for a while, he finally touched a somewhat familiar metal lump.
But the mist in front of him was just too thick;
Chu Che could only make out the rough outline of the vehicle and couldn't see what was inside at all.
That's how Chu Che ended up pounding on the car door and calling Chen Ye's name.
This was also why when Chen Ye opened his eyes, he saw Chu Che's face outside the window with no focus in his eyes.
The interior of the car was also covered by the mist.
Chu Che simply couldn't see inside.
In fact, after Chu Che called out, even he could barely hear his own voice.
Unexpectedly, after just a few shouts, his vision cleared and his hearing returned to normal.
Chen Ye dispersed the mist, and only then could Chu Che clearly see the person in front of him.
It really was Chen Ye.
Hearing the familiar voice, Chu Che's face showed great joy.
"Holy crap, it really is you! This mist of yours... is truly..."
Chu Che didn't know how to describe Chen Ye's ability, but he felt very excited inside.
Chen Ye was also very happy, opening the car door and getting out, giving Chu Che a punch on the chest.
"I knew it, Squad Leader Chu—you're so cunning and shrewd, you'd definitely find me!"
"Damn, we're two of a kind! I knew you definitely wouldn't die!"
Both of them had thought that when they separated to escape, the ones most likely to survive would be each other and themselves.
One was cunning and shrewd, with how many trump cards he still had remaining unclear.
The other was treacherous and ruthless, willing to do anything to survive.
"Just you alone?"
"Only me, plus Old Bao and Xiao Wang. Haven't found the others yet."
When he said this, a deep shadow of sorrow flashed in Chu Che's eyes.
"Don't worry, Iron Lion is so strong that ordinary Anomalies can't do anything to him. That little girl Sun Xixi is plenty clever, and as for Ding Dong, she's with Sun Xixi, so they should be fine too."
Chu Che sighed and said, "I'm not really worried about Sun Xixi and Ding Dong, it's Iron Lion—that guy is a bit stupid!"
Chen Ye: "..."
Chen Ye nodded deeply in agreement, very much approving of Squad Leader Chu Che's concern.
Iron Lion was probably the most naive Superhuman in the convoy.
The reason he let so many people onto his school bus was because he wanted to save more people and help them survive.
His decision to have unified management of supplies on the school bus was for the same reason.
Probably during this scattered escape, either Iron Lion would have the most survivors with him, or none at all would survive.
When they escaped from the Second Elementary School earlier, Chen Ye had glanced around and seen that the most survivors had gone with Iron Lion.
The two exchanged a few casual words.
Chen Ye also dispersed the Smoke Breath mist around him.
After all, if Chu Che could be here, it at least guaranteed temporary safety.
Otherwise, the first thing he'd say upon seeing him would definitely be "Run!"
The familiar modified off-road vehicle appeared before Chen Ye.
The roof was still loaded with plenty of supplies, and aside from some battle damage on the vehicle's surface, there weren't any other major changes.
It looked much more spirited than his own Apocalyptic Pickup Truck.
Had to admit this modified off-road vehicle was really good—over these past few months, he'd never seen this vehicle have any major problems.
Xiao Wang stood anxiously waiting by the vehicle, and when he saw Chen Ye appear, he quickly came over to greet him, the expression on his face much more relaxed.
Before Chen Ye could ask where Old Bao was, he noticed something off about the surrounding situation.
When he fell asleep earlier, although there was some fog around, it wasn't this thick.
How come after one sleep, the fog density had reached this level?
"This fog... isn't it a bit too thick?"
"After we left the Rong City area, the snow lightened up a lot, but this fog... it wasn't this thick before!"
"First it was the Desert, then heavy snow, and now this thick fog—does the apocalypse not have any normal weather?"
"Normal weather wouldn't be called the apocalypse! Yezi, your ability is smoke control, right? Try it, see if you can control this fog!"
A flash of anticipation appeared on Chu Che's face.
If Chen Ye could control this fog, life would definitely be much easier in the days to come.
