Sequence Highway Survival: I Upgrade Supplies in the Apocalypse-Chapter 50: Changing Cars

Chapter 50

When the announcement came through the convoy's loudspeaker, an atmosphere of tension instantly spread throughout the entire vehicle group.
The convoy's speed immediately slowed down as well.
Zhou Xiaoxiao grabbed a baseball bat from under the back seat, watching the road ahead with a tense expression.
Unfortunately, the view ahead was completely blocked by the bus, making it impossible to see what was happening in front.
"Sis!"
"It's fine, the convoy has Captain Chu, Nana, and... Chen Ye - they're Sequence Superpowers users, it'll be fine!"
Zhou Lan was also somewhat nervous.
Zhou Lan had long guessed that in this apocalypse, their convoy couldn't be the only one - there must be other survivors.
She just hadn't expected to encounter other survivors so quickly.
But... encountering other survivors wasn't necessarily something to be happy about.
...
When Chen Ye heard Captain Chu's loudspeaker announcement, he immediately reduced his tricycle's speed while simultaneously grabbing the hand crossbow from his waist.
His left hand gripped the handlebars while his right hand began cocking the weapon single-handedly.
*Twang~~~*
The already overstressed bowstring snapped with the sound.
There was no time for regret - he tossed the hand crossbow aside and drew the machete from his waist.
Like the Zhou sisters, Chen Ye's first reaction upon hearing about another vehicle group was immediate caution.
In the apocalypse, humans could sometimes be more terrifying than Anomalies.
The entire convoy maintained considerable wariness.
Chen Ye's enhanced right eye quickly detected something unusual.
The other convoy should have heard their earlier loudspeaker announcement.
Yet they showed absolutely no reaction whatsoever.
Could it be Anomalies?
No!
If it were Anomalies, how could Chu Che still be leading the convoy forward?
The situation ahead became increasingly clear.
Finally, he could see properly.
There was indeed another convoy ahead.
There were several dozen vehicles, with what appeared to be an off-road vehicle leading the pack, completely overturned in the desert beside the highway, half-buried in the sand.
The remaining vehicles were all crammed together, seemingly involved in collisions of varying severity.
It looked like a massive traffic accident scene.
Several vehicles appeared to have been burned by fire, charred black.
Dozens of vehicles were congested on the desert highway.
The desert heat made the distant accident scene appear blurry.
The outdoor temperature was at least over forty degrees Celsius.
The Fair Convoy's movements didn't elicit any reaction from the accident scene.
Not even a single person was visible.
Chen Ye frowned.
This situation felt very wrong.
Soon Chu Che's vehicle also came to a stop.
The other vehicles stopped one after another.
The barefoot young man got out of his vehicle, glanced toward Chen Ye's direction, then looked into the distance.
The young man grabbed a handful of sand from the ground and put it in his mouth, chewing it.
He was probably activating some ability of the pathfinder.
Chen Ye stopped his tricycle and walked toward Chu Che wearing his shorts and sun protection clothing.
Nana and Iron Lion also got out of their respective vehicles.
"Captain, what's the situation?"
The long-legged girl wearing a sun hat and sunglasses sounded somewhat irritable.
Anyone leaving their vehicle's air conditioning would feel irritable.
Even so, the girl's hand never left the sword hilt at her waist.
Chen Ye glanced enviously at the girl's sunglasses and sun hat.
Under such intense sunlight, having sunglasses and a sun hat was pure bliss.
Chu Che narrowed his eyes slightly: "You can all see it - there's been an accident with the convoy ahead, we can't get through!"
"Anomalies?"
The girl's eyes turned alert!
She had seen the situation with the convoy ahead, and their own group had made considerable noise, yet there was no reaction from ahead.
If anyone claimed there wasn't some problem, nobody would believe it.
Chu Che shook his head: "No Anomalies!"
"This is simple enough - Xiao Fu! Go check it out!"
Iron Lion said in his deep, resonant voice.
The first part was addressed to everyone, the second part was shouted back toward the bus.
The bespectacled university student got off the bus, rode a motorcycle, and quickly sped toward the front.
Chen Ye recognized this motorcycle - it was the same one from this morning.
He just didn't know how this motorcycle had ended up with the university student.
Soon Xiao Fu returned, wearing a very strange expression.
"Xiao Fu, what's the situation ahead?"
"Brother Iron, Captain, Sister Na, Brother Ye, there's nobody in the vehicles ahead!"
The clear-eyed but somewhat naive university student addressed everyone present before describing what he had seen.
"Nobody ahead? Not even bodies?"
"None, all the vehicles are completely empty of people..."
Xiao Fu recounted what he had observed.
Everyone present looked at each other, exchanging glances.
"Maybe we should go take a look?"
Chen Ye said with a cigarette in his mouth.
"That seems to be our only option!"
Everyone returned to their vehicles.
The convoy soon started up again, slowly moving forward with three parts caution, three parts testing, and three parts greed.
But Chen Ye felt a small thrill of excitement in his heart.
If the convoy ahead was truly empty.
Then maybe he could finally get a different vehicle.
Although his tricycle had been modified quite well, it was still far inferior to a four-wheeled off-road vehicle.
If he could get an off-road vehicle to upgrade and modify...
Just the thought alone was exciting.
When they were fifty meters from the accident scene, the convoy stopped.
Iron Lion was the first to get out.
His massive body strode toward the accident scene, projecting an unimaginable sense of security.
The long-legged girl appeared on the roof of the off-road vehicle at some point, hand on the horizontal sword at her waist, ready to respond to any unexpected developments at any moment.
Although Xiao Fu had scouted ahead, nobody knew what might happen when their group got closer.
If not for this level of caution, the convoy probably wouldn't have survived this long.
Chen Ye took a deep drag from his cigarette, nearly smoking half a Huazi in one pull.
Thick smoke streamed from his nostrils, quickly forming faint, hazy smoke clouds around him.
A small cat's meow emerged from within the smoke haze.
Chen Ye's right eye stared intently at the massive figure in the distance.
When he saw the big guy make a safe gesture toward their direction.
Chen Ye's heart finally relaxed.
Immediately, excitement surged through him.
With so many vehicles, he might be able to get a suitable one.
Then he wouldn't have to drive this broken tricycle anymore.
He would finally join the ranks of car owners.
Just thinking about it was thrilling.
