Chapter 183: Chapter 183: Advancing to Senior Year
Lin Xiang completely ignored Kong Jingjing’s sarcastic remarks and said to Chen Xiangqin, "It’s test papers. The teacher said I’ve been away from school for too long and might not keep up with the pace of study, so he gave me some test papers to practice more after school."
"So that’s how it is," Chen Xiangqin suddenly realized, "The teacher has already corrected those papers. After you finish, you can borrow mine to compare answers."
"Thank you, class monitor."
Ge Family.
Aunt Ge had a good business day, so she returned home early.
As she struggled to push the cart into the yard, she heard rustling noises coming from Lin Xiang’s room.
Aunt Ge initially thought it was Mrs. Lin, but the noises continued.
"Could it be a burglar?" Aunt Ge worried, abandoning the cart, grabbed a stick from the corner of the wall, and stealthily approached Lin Xiang’s room. When the person inside was off guard, she pushed the door open, "Who’s in there!"
Ge Yuanyi didn’t expect to be caught doing something bad, and startled, dropped what she was holding, causing a chain reaction of items falling to the ground.
"Yuanyi?" Aunt Ge was surprised to see it was Ge Yuanyi in Lin Xiang’s room.
Ge Yuanyi quickly crouched down, picked up Lin Xiang’s textbooks, hurriedly placed them on the table, squeezed past Aunt Ge’s shoulder, and jogged back to her room.
Mrs. Lin came out of the kitchen hearing the noise, holding a spatula, only to see a petite figure dart into a room, with Aunt Ge still standing at Lin Xiang’s room door.
"Mrs. Ge, what happened?"
Hearing Mrs. Lin’s voice made Aunt Ge’s face look displeased.
She shook her head, her face turning pale, "Yuanyi went into the girl’s room and touched her stuff."
"Oh, I thought it was something serious!" Mrs. Lin said indifferently, "Yuanyi has been coming every day."
Aunt Ge’s pupils widened in shock, "Every day? Didn’t you notice? Why didn’t you stop her?"
Mrs. Lin quickly covered Aunt Ge’s mouth with her hand, "Keep your voice down. What if the kids hear? Come, let’s talk in the kitchen."
The kitchen was far from where Ge Yuanyi slept. They could speak quietly without fear of being overheard.
"We’ve just been here a couple of days, but I noticed Yuanyi always sneaks into the girl’s room after she goes to school. I peeked through the door and saw she wasn’t doing anything bad, just holding the girl’s textbooks and reading."
"Mrs. Ge, I don’t know what’s happened to the child. You didn’t tell us, so we couldn’t ask. But it’s good the child wants to study, right? Haven’t you always advised me to fully support the girl in taking college exams? So I didn’t stop her."
Not only did Mrs. Lin not stop her, she even deliberately created opportunities for Ge Yuanyi to enter Lin Xiang’s room.
"Reading more is good, but this... Oh, I’ll apologize properly when the girl returns!"
"No need to apologize. The girl knows." Mrs. Lin said, "She realized the first time Yuanyi entered her room. She didn’t stop her, which means she approved of Yuanyi’s actions. I understand my child best."
Mrs. Lin smirked, "If you hadn’t exposed Yuanyi today, she could have continued reading every day. But now, she probably won’t dare enter the girl’s room anymore. What kind of situation is this!"
Aunt Ge looked embarrassed.
After all, it turned out to be her fault?
But Mrs. Lin was right; once some things are exposed, there’s no going back.
When Lin Xiang returned to Ge Family with a stack of test papers, she found the atmosphere at home somewhat tense.
"What’s going on?" Lin Xiang asked, "Mom, did you have a fight with Aunt Ge?"
Before Mrs. Lin could speak, Aunt Ge said, "Girl, I’m sorry. It’s my fault for not watching Yuanyi and letting her into your room."
So this matter was discovered.
Lin Xiang put the test papers she was holding on the table, "I thought it was something serious. Aunt Ge, today Teacher Yu from the senior year group told me that Yuanyi’s grades are good. He even gave me a batch of senior year test papers and I wanted to compete with Yuanyi to see whose scores are better."
As Lin Xiang spoke, she kept a close eye on the room where Ge Yuanyi now stayed.
She wasn’t surprised to see a small figure peeking through the window.
Clearly, Ge Yuanyi was not oblivious to the outside happenings.
In the room, Ge Yuanxin said softly, "You can tell Mom the truth. Even if you don’t return to school, you can still take the college entrance exam."
Ge Yuanyi lowered her head, "Impossible. I asked classmates, apart from the first cohort, you can’t join the exam without a student registration. I’ve already dropped out and can’t take the entrance exam."
Watching his sister’s defeated expression, Ge Yuanxin said encouragingly, "I have some connections. If you want to take the entrance exam, I can help with that."
Ge Yuanyi shook her head, "No need. Someone like me, even if I took the entrance exam... what then? Keep your connections for more important things."
The conversation between the siblings came to an abrupt stop.
The large room felt extraordinarily quiet.
After a while, Ge Yuanxin spoke again, "Why do all these things fall on our family? It’s my fault for not protecting you better."
Ge Yuanyi blinked, two tears rolled down her cheeks.
What’s the point of saying this now?
The things have already happened.
That night, Lin Xiang studied hard under the lamp.
She chose some difficult questions and wrote them in her notebook.
It wasn’t until the candle burned out that Lin Xiang put down her pen and stretched her aching wrist.
The next morning, before going out, Lin Xiang knocked on Mrs. Lin’s door and handed her the notebook.
"Mom, can you give this to Yuanyi later and ask her to write it when she’s free at noon? There’s a pencil and eraser on my desk, ask her to take them herself."
Mrs. Lin yawned, "Why don’t you give it to her yourself?"
"I don’t know her." Lin Xiang said, "I’m leaving, you can sleep a little longer."
In the afternoon, when Lin Xiang returned home and opened the door, she saw the notebook she had given Mrs. Lin in the morning sitting on the table.
This time the handwriting was still there, not erased.
Ge Yuanyi’s handwriting was beautiful, delicate and neat.
Lin Xiang took out her red pen to "grade the papers."
What she wrote in the notebook were the toughest questions from each test paper, but even so, Ge Yuanyi’s accuracy rate was sixty percent.
Judging by the distribution of a test paper with one or two big questions, for mathematics, physics, and chemistry, Ge Yuanyi could score at least seventy points.
For a second-year student at Town First Middle School, these scores aren’t bad.
Teacher Yu was right. It’s quite a pity for Ge Yuanyi.
If she could attend school for another year with systematic studying, she might have a chance to enroll in a good university.
