Seventies Sweetheart: From Breakup to Billionaire-Chapter 258: Moving Into the New Home

Chapter 258

Chapter 258: Chapter 258: Moving Into the New Home
Two days ago, it rained, so the construction site paused for a day, and there was no need to sell fast food. Lin Yun took Mrs. Lin on a bus ride to visit Huaqing University.
Mrs. Lin specifically asked Lin Yun to take her to the West Gate to see the house Lin Yun bought.
It was indeed impressive.
However, Huaqing University isn’t close to their current rental place. It takes about forty minutes one way by bus, and when you add the time for buying, washing, and cooking food, there’s barely enough time in a day for so much running around.
Since Lin Xiang has started university, she must live on campus during the week by rule, which means Lin Yun will be too busy to handle things alone.
But if they stop the fast food business, what else can they do?
They can’t just sit back and use up all their assets.
Having experienced the joy of earning money, Mrs. Lin has no desire to idle around.
"We need to continue the fast food business, but it probably won’t be at the construction site anymore," Lin Xiang said. "Mom, didn’t you say the landlord asked several times about the fast food business? We can pass on the business to him."
"If we pass it on, what will we do next?"
"I plan to rent a storefront at the South Gate and sell fast food at Huaqing University’s South Gate."
The house at the East Gate is almost collapsing, so Lin Xiang doesn’t plan to mess with it for now. Waiting for its value to appreciate is a good strategy since a vacant renovated house is a waste.
She plans to renovate the house by the South Gate and open a small restaurant that primarily sells fast food, with a side offering of selected Chinese dishes.
In Lin Xiang’s plan, she expects to be too busy with her studies to manage the restaurant, so Mrs. Lin would be in charge.
If the restaurant’s offerings expand, Mrs. Lin might find it difficult to cope alone, so they’d start with fast food she’s familiar with and gradually expand the restaurant a semester later.
Taking it step by step is much better than rushing it all at once.
Seeing Lin Xiang had a plan, Mrs. Lin secretly breathed a sigh of relief, "Alright then, shall we continue for a few more days and then transfer the business to the landlord?"
The landlord is extraordinarily kind; on occasions when Mrs. Lin was overwhelmed, he would help out voluntarily.
Not to mention, he delivers a large watermelon every day without fail.
Mrs. Lin is aware that the landlord’s main interest is the fast food business, but they would not lose out.
Lin Xiang calculated the timeline.
Today is already the 20th.
Ge Yuanyi’s new semester at Beijing Medical College starts on the 26th, and registration at Huaqing University is on September 1st.
Therefore, Lin Xiang does not plan to continue with the fast food business.
First, she wants to explore Beijing with Ge Yuanyi and Mrs. Lin to familiarize them with the surroundings.
Second, overseeing the new store’s renovation requires plenty of back and forth, which is truly exhausting.
Mrs. Lin felt somewhat reluctant, "We have plenty of time to explore later, if we let the business go now, how much will we be losing?"
"What we lose here, we can earn back at the university restaurant."
"Mom, as long as we work diligently, there’s endless money to be made in a lifetime. Don’t always fixate on immediate gains, we need to think of the long run."
After Lin Xiang’s persuasion, Mrs. Lin decided not to sell afternoon fast food and went to find the landlord.
The landlord and his family all came together, including their son and daughter-in-law.
When Lin Xiang had rented the place, she dealt directly with the landlord’s wife. Today, she primarily communicated with the landlord’s wife regarding the fast food business.
"As you might have noticed over this period, our fast food business is indeed not bad. We’ve been operating for more than half a month and have accumulated a good reputation."
"In fast food business, while taste is a factor, the most important thing is providing large portions to fill people up. After all, the customers are construction workers. They do strenuous work daily, so if they’re not fed enough or the dishes lack oil, who’d be willing to spend money and eat here every day?"
"So, to earn this money, never compromise on conscience. No one’s foolish; if you cut corners, customers won’t return."
As Lin Xiang spoke, the landlord’s wife nodded continuously. "What you say makes a lot of sense. Recently, another vendor tried selling fast food at the construction site, but they left after only a few days. I watched closely; although their prices were similar to yours, their portions were much smaller and they were stingy with oil."
"We should provide generous portions and not be shy with oil and salt. With more patrons, our profits will increase. What’s that saying again?"
"Small profits but quick turnover."
"Yes, exactly! Don’t worry, dear, we’ll take over your business and maintain your reputation."
At the landlord’s wife’s assurances, Lin Xiang just smiled without comment.
No matter how nice the words now, no one knows what the future holds.
Lin Xiang wasn’t worried about them affecting her reputation as she likely wouldn’t return here.
What concerned her more was that if this family cut corners, it would leave construction workers underfed.
But there was nothing she could do about this with her current abilities; it was up to the landlords to adhere to their principles.
Lin Xiang shared the essentials of the fast food business with the landlords and then said, "This cart was made with the brother’s help. You can take these barrels and whatnot at an eighty percent discount from me if you need them. Otherwise, you can make them anew."
After all, since she paid for them, Lin Xiang couldn’t just give them away.
The landlords bought Lin Xiang’s fast food tools at a discounted price and returned half a month’s rent to her.
There were still leftover groceries Lin Yun had bought, so Lin Xiang and Mrs. Lin spent the afternoon using them, while introducing the change of ownership to the construction workers.
Early the next morning, Lin Xiang, Mrs. Lin, and Ge Yuanyi, carrying their luggage, hired two rickshaws, loaded with electric fans, and headed to the house at the West Gate of Huaqing University.
After purchasing the house, Lin Xiang had bought new locks and replaced them on all the doors inside and out.
The house was well-maintained, only needing a bit of cleaning, but it lacked basic furniture, which had to be bought.
"Let’s rest for a bit, then grab a bite to eat before heading to the market to buy things."
"Girl, just furnishing the place with beds and wardrobes will cost a lot, won’t it?" Mrs. Lin calculated that selling fast food for over half a month earned them three to four hundred yuan, but buying an electric fan alone cost more than a hundred, leaving her worried whether the remaining money is enough for furnishing.
However, thinking about it, this house was bought by Lin Xiang and belongs to their mother-daughter duo, so even if they splurge for furniture, it’s an investment in their own home.
