Chapter 33: Chapter 31: Not Quite Aboveboard
"Cohen, the truck has reached the designated location."
A subordinate’s voice ed through the tactical earpiece. Cohen turned his head to confirm the presence of a dilapidated white van parked by the street. "Good, await my command. Target 8:07 has departed from the embassy."
Five minutes later, an urgent voice suddenly came through the earpiece: "Cohen, target vehicle spotted."
Cohen adjusted the binoculars and quickly locked onto a moving green Jeep on the south side of the street, its front bearing special white embassy plates, confirming it was a United States Embassy vehicle.
"Truck, get ready to block the road. Snipers, stand by. Remember two things: one, do not attack the Americans; two, the target has high tactical skills and specialized military training. Do not expose yourself by firing unless you’re one hundred percent sure."
"Understood!"
As soon as Cohen finished speaking, three different responses came through the earpiece.
No mistakes.
To ensure the target’s elimination, he had positioned three snipers, with shooting angles covering virtually every inch of the street.
The failure of the Laird Airport operation was something he hadn’t anticipated.
One person, with just a few police officers, took out the insider Sam and wiped out his entire mercenary squad, even managing to kill Mr. Nefid. If he hadn’t decisively fled into the ventilation duct at the last moment, he might not have survived either.
More surprisingly, the person turned out to be the initial target they were searching for. Last night, he actively revealed his identity online, displaying the utmost arrogance, which greatly angered the higher-ups at the company.
"KNP868, Jiang Songyuan..."
Cohen gritted his teeth as he uttered those words. Since entering this circle over a decade ago, he had never suffered such a grave defeat and humiliation.
"Beep! Beep——!"
Inside the Jeep, the driver stepped on the brake and repeatedly honked the horn.
"What happened?"
Noticing the car stop, Jiang Songyuan, sitting in the backseat, curiously asked.
"It seems there’s an accident ahead, a truck has blocked the road. You stay in the car, I’ll check it out."
Saying this, Jillian opened the car door and walked to the front, observing the two black drivers arguing and shoving each other. She felt something was off.
She instinctively looked up, surveying the high buildings on both sides of the street.
Inside the car.
Jiang Songyuan was getting restless. He lowered the rear privacy glass and curiously poked his head out.
"Cohen, the target is exposed, and quite significantly. Should we fire?"
From the building above, Cohen seemed incredulous that Jiang Songyuan would easily reveal his position. "What’s the chance of a kill?"
"A hundred percent."
Cohen’s eyes flickered uncertainly, but in the end, he decisively ordered, "Action!"
Bam——!
A violent, abrupt sound exploded from the swaying sandbag. The slanting sunlight streaming through the gym’s window highlighted Gu Ji’s lean physique, along with the intense inhalations through his nostrils.
"Hoo ha..."
Gu Ji wiped the sweat off his forehead with a towel. After reviewing in the afternoon, he had dragged Gao Bo to the school gym for some physical training. Ostensibly preparing for the upcoming graduation ceremony exercises, in reality, he wanted to carefully test the effects of the system enhancement.
The strength of his leg whip was indeed slightly stronger than before, and his neural reactions had become quicker.
Once he had a sense of it, he turned to call Gao Bo to the canteen for a meal, unexpectedly seeing the other leaning against the windowsill, proudly holding up his phone screen, saying:
"What did I tell you? That little Westerner wasn’t anything formidable at all. See, he got taken out, didn’t he?"
"Who got taken out? Are you talking about Jiang Songyuan!?"
At first, Gu Ji didn’t catch on. He quickly ran over to Gao Bo’s side, the phone screen prominently displaying a headline from the recently published news:
The mysterious Asian traveler who thwarted the Laird Airport shooting: Jiang Songyuan, was shot dead on Capital Halle Street at 8:23 AM local time. The officials have yet to release details of the incident, but eyewitnesses claim the death was due to gunfire.
Dead?
Seeing this news, Gu Ji was both surprised yet unsurprised.
With PM Arms Company being such a massive force, daring enough to massacre a village and even attack a 4A international airport, would they tolerate someone holding concrete evidence of their crimes rampaging online?
However, he had done the deed, claimed the rewards, and yet it was Jiang Songyuan who took the fall. This left him feeling somewhat "not very righteous."
But thinking back, if it weren’t for his interference, this guy would’ve already died in the attack, ending in the same fate.
Jiang Songyuan’s shooting also served as another reminder:
He must never expose his real identity, but continue leveraging the system’s enhancements to silently and securely develop himself as the ultimate strategy.
"Let’s go eat!"
...
In the following two days, Gu Ji continued with his routine studies. With his recent increased-nutrition regimen, both attribute enhancements were finally completed.
Unfortunately, the treasure box was not influenced by this and still required another dozen or so hours of waiting.
Afternoon, 2:30 PM.
Outside the female dormitory building.
Having agreed to go to the airport to pick up his parents with Chen Zhiyu at the canteen a couple of days ago, Gu Ji left the library early, sent Chen Zhiyu a WeChat message, and waited at the girls’ dorm entrance.
A few minutes later, Chen Zhiyu finally appeared, wearing a loose light blue T-shirt and black-gray frayed denim shorts, along with canvas sneakers, exuding a youthful sporty vibe.
"You put on makeup?"
Gu Ji looked up, noticing the sparkling light at the corner of her eye, beneath which were two deep dimples, her lips painted in a bean-paste shade, adding a touch more charm.
"Oh, I thought you, the straightforward guy, wouldn’t tell!"
Chen Zhiyu slightly raised her chin, lifting a leg to deliberately showcase her profile and figure even more perfectly. With a bit of a proud tone, she asked, "Do I look good?"
"You look great."
Gu Ji nodded.
But the following comment nearly made Chen Zhiyu spit blood in anger: "Just that your chest is too small."
Chen Zhiyu’s face turned dark as if she had ground her teeth to dust: "None of your business!"
"Let’s go."
Gu Ji suppressed a laugh, rarely seeing this girl get the short end of the stick.
But one had to admit, aside from her small chest, Chen Zhiyu was perfect in every other way. The two walked side by side on the path of the Ningzhou Police Academy, attracting numerous juniors stealing glances.
At the school gate, Gu Ji used his phone to book a ride.
After nearly an hour, they arrived at Ningzhou Lu Kou International Airport.
Through the car window, he glanced far at the massive, white, crescent-shaped terminal building, instinctively recalling the past brutal moments at Laird International Airport, as if scenes were playing like a revolving lantern.
Yet, unlike the latter, the security at the Xia Kingdom’s airport was considered among the world’s best, with every vicinity around the airport having a police station set up, and the terminal equipped with an officer post to provide a strong sense of security.
Moreover, on the vacant lot in front of Lukou Airport’s terminal, two mighty and imposing blue-black police Saber-tooth armored vehicles were parked, their body adorned with red and blue flashing lights, and on the side doors painted a dragon and tiger, with the words: Dragon and Tiger Assault Team!
The Dragon and Tiger Assault Team is a cutting-edge anti-terror unit of the Ningzhou City Bureau, having previously taken part in various major events’ security, emergency response, and security escort tasks. It represents the elite of the special police, and had always been Gu Ji’s dream goal!
