Chapter 386: By Portal
Jace spent the rest of the sleepless morning tinkering. He had slept only four hours but he felt well rested for some reason. As for the individual information that he was curious about. He already called it up and checked on all of the things he was curious about.
The first thing he checked was his Evolution Stage.
[Evolution Stage: 0% Human, 70% Spectre, 30% {Redacted}]
It was just as he thought. He was no longer a human. He was completely this new species that the Nanosystem had dubbed Spectre. The communication system was still down so he could not inform the High Priestess either.
The redacted portion of his species was still worrying. But as far as he could tell he was done evolving. He tried to check everything else as well but he usually ended up with the same message.
[This information is not available at this time.]
It did not matter if it was his age, compatibility rating, his talent, his stats, or abilities. All of that information was just not available. Nor was his ’weapon forms’ set of information. That was just completely gone.
What he could see was his name, his spouse, his Talent/Ability Understanding, his evolution stage, and Cho’s information. His Talent/Ability Understanding had changed as well.
[Talent/Ability Understanding: 75%]
He just tinkered for a few minutes and he had already minimized a flying drone that would float in the air silently. It was strange, for some reason he now understood how to more easily connect parts of machines and how electricity operates. It was like there was a more innate understanding that came with his race.
After an hour of tinkering he had a thought.
Couldn’t he just make something that could get around the downed communication network. So that is what he did. He was lost in thought and worked for the next few hours. He did not even notice as the others woke up and began moving around.
He was only pulled out of thought when Gorund walked up to him while he was working. "The devil’s forge?! What happened to your ears?" Gorund asked loudly, getting the others attention.
Jace blinked in surprise and looked over at the dwarf. He then looked around the room and realized the others had woken up as well. "Oh... you are awake. Hmm... I am hungry." Jace declared as he stood up and walked over to the kitchen.
[Father changed? Father a new race?] Cho asked directly into his mind.
"I am but speak out loud. You need to practice." Jace answered out loud as he sat at a table. He then looked at the others, "I will explain while we eat so you are all paying attention. Peter? Can you...?"
"Make breakfast? It is already on the way." Peter Reese answered as he nodded at the oven that was working wonders. It was too far advanced to be used in a simple kitchen like this. He would love to have one of these in the restaurant’s kitchen.
"Jace, your ears turned sharp like those tree hugging elves. But they are not nearly as sharp." Gorund sat down next to him and looked over Jace. "Nor do you smell like wood bark and nuts."
Jace raised an eyebrow. Elves were a new one. Jace once again knew about some mythos and stories regarding Elves but those were not real. Yet they were somehow real at the same time. How curious? The archaeological implications could be immense.
"Elves huh... No, I am a completely different race. What are the specifics of the elves?" Jace asked as he played with a fork that was set up on the table. The girls were setting down utensils. Jace was playing with the fork to get used to his muscles and feelings again.
Something he learned while tinkering was that everything was new. He had to train again from scratch. He would have to get some exercise equipment in here. Actually he could just make it. He should just make it. He will just make it.
"Aside from not using the typical method of space travel? They are even more reclusive and xenophobic than the dwarves. They are long lived as well. The average life span is roughly five hundred years. But their method of space travel is unique." Gorund declared with a grumble. "Dorgo’s sack, there are only a few that use their method. But even then the elves are known for using a strange energy as a form of power."
Jace could hear giggling from the girls. He smirked but focused on the annoyed dwarf. "How do they travel?"
"By portal." Gorund declared before he began looking around.
But Jace was absorbed in his own world as a thought and idea struck him. It was not his typical technological development idea. In fact it was the opposite. Some writings and texts that he never managed to translate. They seemed to almost completely translate in his mind.
Back at the Labyrinth so long ago, he had seen writings about two different groups in their languages. He knew one was a ’red’ species while the other was a ’yellow’ species. But both of them had a shared symbol.
One that Jace just realized meant ’portal’. They used portals to travel between galaxies. The ’red’ species used portals to travel directly to a planet. He knew because the symbol showed a person walking out the portal. But the ’yellow’ species was different. They used portals to transport entire structures, structures like ships.
"Do the dwarves have the method of portal transportation?" Jace asked as he pulled himself out of his thoughts.
"Huh?" Gorund looked at him in confusion then he frowned. "Nay, we tried. But we could never figure out what method they use. We even developed equipment to harness a sun but we determined that our power was not the problem, our problem was the theory we had behind portal travel. Before you ask, I suggest you figure out your own method so you do not run into the same dead end."
Jace grunted and nodded. That was a good idea. It was also one more thing he would add onto his list of things to do.
