Chapter 407: Did you kill someone by accident?
Jace sighed as the simulation powered off. That was better than he thought. Captain Tyler was not the only one. A bunch of these people were able to recognize the puzzle he put in place. K, the person temporarily in charge of the Cover Division actually managed to get to the final part before her team fell to a wave.
The puzzle was that each situation and asset had a different resolution. For instance, for the kitinol they would have to be constantly moving and running away. Because trying fight an endless wave like that unprepared would be suicide. But that was just one of the puzzles.
As Jace’s glass opened up he was welcomed to the quizzical looks of Cho and Jordan. He looked over at Cain who was looking at the screens. "You could have told me they were back."
"You needed the data to create a proper training plan. Besides, the girls wanted to watch." Cain responded. Jace could almost swear he heard the amusement in his voice as he responded. He was enjoying this.
Cain rolled his eyes and looked at the girls. "Okay, what is up? Did you finish your homework already?" Jace asked as he crouched down and looked them over to make sure they were not hurt or abused.
"Nope!" Cho shook her head with excitement. "The teachers said we are suspended."
Jace raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Did you kill someone by accident?"
"Hehehe," Cho giggled as she shook her head. "No, daddy. But we did punch some bullies like you said. Jordan punched a meanie in the face and he spit out teeth. Then a teacher went to hit her and punched him through a wall!" Cho exclaimed in excitement.
Jace looked at the girls. Seeing Jordan looking away in shame and Cho’s excitement. He knew she was telling the truth. He then burst into laughter. "That is fantastic! So you hit him enough to send him through a wall but not kill him! Hahahaha!"
Jordan began making signs with her hands. "The principal said you have to come in and talk to them tomorrow about what happened. They want reparations for the student and teacher." Jace smiled and Jordan shivered and quickly made more hand signs. "They said they will have the government take us away if we do that again."
"Jordan, those adults are just on a power trip. I just need to teach them a lesson." Jace told her as he stood up and clapped his hands. "Now then, let’s get you some food as a prize."
"Yeah!" Cho cheered while Jordan sighed and followed her.
"So then, what do you two want as a present for doing so well at school?" Jace asked as he stepped into the kitchen and pulled out some boxes of food.
"Can we do that thing you were doing? That looked like a lot of fun!" Cho declared with excitement. "Fighting a bunch of different creatures and shooting loud things."
Jace nodded, "okay, I can get you a VR headset. I won’t get you a pod until you are older but a headset and console should be fine. What about you Jordan? What do you want?"
Jordan went to make a hand motion but then stopped and looked away with a blush. Jace raised an eyebrow and then looked at Cho. Cho seemed to immediately understand because she read Jordan’s mind. "Jordan is thinking she wants a head pat!" Cho declared, "I want one too!"
Jace smiled and put the box of macaroni on the counter. While Jordan turned to Cho and started hitting her with her fists softly. Cho chuckled and blocked the attacks. But they both froze when Jace patted their heads. "Good job girls." He told them and patted the shocked girls for another few seconds before going back to cook the macaroni. "Now then, I will get both of you some VR headsets and consoles. There are plenty of games and simulations you can run. They are not as sensitive as a VR pod, but those can be detrimental in your early growth anyways."
"Will we be able to do the stuff you were doing?" Cho asked. Jordan seemed to think of something and started asking something similar to what Cho asked but stopped and looked away.
"Not exactly." Jace answered as he started boiling water and grabbed his communication device. Spending money to have two of the most advanced VR headsets and consoles delivered with a variety of games. "I programmed and set up those simulations."
"Woah..." Cho’s eyes lit up.
While Jordan quickly began making hand motions. "That is amazing. I heard Allie talk about programming before. She said she could barely make a calculator."
"Ehh... it comes naturally to me. Was there a particular type of simulation you wanted to try? I saw you were about to ask something but stopped." Jace asked as he pulled out some thighs from the fridge.
Jordan hesitated again before shrugging as she seemed to realize he would just ask Cho if she refused to continue to tell him. "I wanted to know if there was a game or simulation where I could pilot one of those mechs? Apparently my dad was a mech pilot and mom used to have dreams of being one as well."
Jace frowned and pulled up his communication device. Looking through the list of games. He was not really a game buff. He played a few but Salem was more of a game fanatic between the two of them. "Umm... maybe?" Jace pushed his communication device in front of her. "Look through the list of games. Go through the descriptions. There should be a few in there. If there isn’t, I will buy them and have them delivered." Jace told her.
Jordan nodded and then began seriously looking through the games.
Now that that was done. Jace turned his attention to Cho again. "Okay, tell me about this meeting I have to come to. When is it? Do you two have to be there?"
"Tomorrow early in the morning, right before school. The principal wants us there. There will also be a few teachers including the one I punched. The student Jordan punched and one of his parents. Then there will also be a station official." Cho explained in excitement. "Soooo... What are you going to do?"
Jace smirked and ruffled her hair. "I will just be me." He then nodded at Cain who walked over to join them. "Have the unit run specific division simulations tomorrow. Make sure to record them and analyze them as well. I am thinking of dividing them to cross unit squads if a battle with smaller teams is necessary." Jace explained as he put the macaroni in the boiling water.
"Understood. What about the smaller units that do not have as many people?" Cain asked as his eyes glowed for a second.
"Put in NPCs with them and have them run the division specific directives." Jace told him. "Each division has to have twenty people in total. So add NPCs to the divisions that are only missing a few people as well."
"Do you want NPCs in the missing ranks?" Cain asked as he sat on his haunches.
"Nope. They will have to figure out who is in charge on their own." Jace told him as he started cutting up some fresh veggies and meats. Intending to cook them and add them to the macaroni and cheese.
"Dad! I have a new question!" Cho declared when it looked like they were done talking.
Jace glanced at her as he was skillfully using the knife. "Oh? What is your question?"
"Will you play the games with us?" Cho asked, causing Jordan who was drinking water to spit it out in shock.
Jace thought about it for a moment before nodding. "Certainly. In fact Cain can play as well." Jace pointed out as he turned his attention back to making food.
"Yeah!" Cho shouted in excitement while Jordan looked between them in confusion before shaking her head. She then set aside his communication device.
"Find one?" Jace asked.
Jordan nodded and then began making hand motions. "There are quite a few. Some are more highly rated than others. But I am just wondering if any of them are realistic."
"I can ask one of my soldiers. I have a whole division that is made up of mech pilots." Jace explained as he tossed the cut up meat and veggies into a pan and started cooking it up.
"Is that supposed to be a secret?" Jordan asked with some confused hand motions.
"Probably. Anyways, I will ask them to see how realistic it is. My experience with mechs is limited to using them as artillery emplacements and the very few that the Vexical Military had on hand to train us in stealing them." Jace explained with a shrug. "They are not really my cup of tea."
"That is a weird saying." Cho pointed out.
"It is an old saying." Jace told her. "Now then... Do you want dessert as well?" Both of the girls’ faces lit up in excitement. "I suppose I did not really need to ask, did I?" Jace spoke sarcastically.
