Chapter 455: Cornered
Jace looked over at Vana as she stirred on her medical bed. The new colony-wide news network was playing on the holo television nearby. He had been watching it while waiting for Vana to wake up.
Most of the radioactive rods had been retrieved in time. There just was still a single one that was still in the figurative wind. They had managed to track it to a yacht production yard where they found footage of it being taken off the colony station. Which was good for them but it still meant that there was a radioactive rod of illegal nature somewhere in the Victorium’s new territories.
But that was now someone else’s problem. Because now they had a new one after stirring up the public. They had moved quickly and put a dent in the Iron Boar district before leaving it completely. Initially he thought about solving the district as a whole but he had a better idea. After grabbing those involved with the radioactive rod smuggling he had left the rest alone.
Just like what happened back in his own home world. He was purposefully overlooking other illegal activities in favor of his objective. It would make it easier for his unit to operate and the criminals more favorable when he made a request.
"Jace... what are you doing here?" Vana asked.
Jace smiled as he adjusted how he was sitting. "I came to check on my favorite Woltar. How are you feeling?" He asked as he leaned forward in his chair.
"Favorite woltar? Do you even have another?" She saw Jace’s smile grow. "Nevermind. I feel like I got shot in the back. How many organs did I need replaced?" She then seemed to remember something and reached up to feel her ear. "How about my ear?"
Jace chuckled. "The bullet broke on your spine and shattered. It ruptured one of your lungs, your stomach, and a few other organs. All of which were easily replaced because your heart was still beating." He then nodded at her ear that she was feeling up. There was a patch of pink skin in the middle. "We were able to print some skin and reattach the part of your ear that was left."
"It feels raw and sensitive." Vana remarked as she leaned back in her bed and flinched in pain. "It is a shame we can’t have surgeons like this on the Wolfsbane. They would be able to save so many soldiers’ lives."
"I know and so does the High Priestess. But both MILD and the government are restricting access to organic rematerialization devices until they have been perfected. Which I understand completely because I know how bad tech like this can get while in the wrong hands. Hell, I grew up in a neighborhood where the criminals tried to use a material printer to destroy a body." Jace explained with a chuckle.
"I know.. But I still wish we had more. What was their reason anyways?" Vana picked up a remote that was on her bedside and used it to adjust her bed’s seat height.
"MILD is citing it as a security risk to have any on ships. So they restrict access to only military bases and stations. The government just wants to keep the popularity of the military down while also making it more dangerous to be in the military. The amount of lives the tech would save would be too much for the government to fund." Jace explained.
"So... MILD is worried about security and the government is playing politics." Vana rolled her eyes. "I guess I should be thankful that you managed to even get one with the appropriate surgeons on to our facility."
"Yeah... I cited a rare loophole in the rules about the fact that I am the only known full Spectre and therefore a protected species. But that will only work so long." Jace informed her with a chuckle, "I am going to head back to my garage. Drop by when you get the chance."
"Wait..." Vana called out and Jace looked over at her. Tilting his head in confusion. "Um... tell me about what is going on with the news. Why does it look like something has the new colony-wide network has them abuzz."
Jace looked at the holobroadcast and shrugged. "Well... apparently footage from Sakana Nine arrived at the colony. They connected the dots back to us and figured out that we are the group responsible. Now they want to know more about us. The High Priestess addressed the public earlier, informing them that we are a mobile response unit that would respond to emergency situations. Which is what we are but also... not what we are." Jace informed her as he adjusted his stance as he prepared to leave.
"Jace..." He turned back to her as he partially opened the door. "Can I... come by your garage during off hours?"
Jace nodded. "Yeah, I planned on making a second floor I could sleep on so that would be fine." Jace told her assuming the wrong thing. Then he walked out the door and Vana leaned back in her chair and sighed.
She bit her lip and then shook her head. She needed to be more assertive.

Jace pulled his hoverbike into the garage and parked it. Then he looked over at his guest as well as Nila. They were having a glare down at the moment. Fortunately he had managed to smooth things over so the girls could go back to school. But both would have detention for the next few days.
"I was expecting Nila, but Mistress White. To what do I owe the pleasure?" Jace asked as he climbed off his hoverbike and moved to the door. Cain must have let both of them in remotely. He was still at the Cerberus base. Setting up for the expansion of the unit. By the end of the week they would have a thousand people in the Cerberus Mobile Response Unit. Which would be more than enough. As it was he was now busy going over footage for potential promotions with Captain Solisa.
Mistress White smirked and adjusted so one of her legs was being shown off. She had found her wife a week ago. She was in a coma now. Apparently she had been struck on the head while she was enslaved and had almost died. So now she was in a coma in White’s domain.
"I managed to get the races going again. The first big and official one is tomorrow. I need to know if you are in or out." She nodded at his hoverbike. "I am sure the public will lose their shit over a monstrous machine like that."
Jace smirked as he rolled his eyes. "One, it will be a landslide. Two, you do not have to lie. You want to use my current popularity to rack up some more fans into the racing game. Three, how is your wife?"
Mistress White relaxed a little from her tensed and seductive pose. "Haa... still comatose. But thank you for asking. I have already started rebuilding her reputation after what that orius did."
Jace shrugged. "You will get there eventually. I will gladly accept your invitation. It will give me a break from the usual chaos I encounter on a daily basis. Now Nila, was there something you wanted?"
"To mate." Nila answered with a nod of her head. Her bluntness still managed to catch him off guard for a moment though.
"Oh? I want that as well." Mistress White agreed as she looked at Nila with a trace of amusement before looking at Jace with an unveiled desire of lust. "We could make this a threesome."
Jace shook his head. "I have to get ready for the race tomorrow. Besides Jordan and Cho will be back home soon-"
"Jordan and Cho have detention after school which ends in a few hours. We have plenty of time for a few ’rounds’ in the sack." Mistress White reminded him with a chuckle. He actually forgot that the woman had someone watching his two wards, or actually they were going to be his adopted children now.
"You will be fine with last minute prep for the race tomorrow. Your best work emerges when you do not see something coming." Nila pointed out as she approached him and made a cooing noise.
"Why do you want to mate so much anyways? I thought the allure or whatever it was would have worn off after a few months apart." Jace asked as he slowly backed away glancing at the back door.
"Because..." Nila ran her metallic hand across his loose black shirt that he wore. "I have this painful reminder to not let my guard down around you. What is your new problem with producing offspring? Or the act of attempting reproduction?"
Jace scoffed as he slowly took bigger steps to the back door. "I have no problem with it but with my new and current race there is no way to ensure that you won’t get pregnant." Jace told as he almost arrived at the door and reached back tapping the control panel.
"Good, because I-!"
BEEP!
There was a loud electronic beep and they all looked at the door panel to see it had been locked. Only one thing could lock Jace inside his own garage. "Cain you-"
