Chapter 178: Chapter 178 Rune Magic
Roman opened the door, and a maid was by the side. "Can you get me a paper and a quill?" Roman spoke, and the maid nodded and walked away.
Roman wanted to draw the rune he saw before he forgot the shape. He would use this to check if the rune was true, and if it was, then his dream wasn’t just a dream.
His thoughts were split in two, one part of him wanted this to just be a dream because it would be easier that way, and the other part wanted this to be real and him using this to gain even more power.
Roman had no idea what he wanted with it for now but this was the best he could do
A knock sounded, followed by the door opening, and Roman instructed him to walk into the room with what he asked for.
She bowed her head as she placed it on the table and left the room. Roman walked up to the table and sat down close to it, grabbing the quill and dipping the tip in ink.
He remembered all three runes perfectly and drew them on the paper. He had to draw them smaller to contain the paper, but he did it. He didn’t pay much attention to the other spell circles, just the rune.
The rune has something to do with gravity. Roman had no idea how he managed to manipulate gravity, but he couldn’t wait to try it. For now, he was going to rest.
After his long nap, Roman wasn’t particularly sleepy, but he was still going to get some sleep, as tomorrow was going to be the day he would showcase his power in front of a crowd.
Roman took a deep breath. He had taken off his top, leaving just his pants, and covered half of his body with the sheets. The palace was truly perfect.
Roman stayed in that position for some minutes, and then he stood back up This wasn’t working; his eyes were wide open, and he didn’t even feel tired.
"Would someone be watching me right now?" Roman muttered as he walked towards the chair and took the drawing of the runes in his hands.
Roman was able to draw runes, even though he wasn’t perfect; at least he could get it to work, but for some reason, it used too much Mana, more than regular spells, and a spell like this was definitely going to use even more.
The three runes Roman saw were floating side by side as they were conjured, but he couldn’t do that just yet, so he was going to create just one and then try two.
Roman can cast two spells simultaneously, so two runes wouldn’t be a problem; the problem was going to be conjuring the third one.
Just like spell circle, the mage just has to stretch his hands and conjure the rune, infuse Mana for it to work, and have a target in mind. For the target, he was planning to use the table.
Roman sat back down and placed the paper on his lap as he moved the chair away from the table. His eyes traced the runes he had drawn and he began.
"Let’s see if this even works," he muttered.
He stretched out his right hand and focused on the first rune. Mana flowed out from him, the air around his hand glowing faintly. Slowly, the rune began to take shape in front of him.
A single glowing mark floated in the air before forming a triangle with three circles at each side, which was the shape of the rune.
Roman’s eyes widened a little, and he had a smile on his face. "It worked... first one is easy."
He let out a slow breath, staring at the glowing rune until it faded. Then he tried again, this time aiming for two.
He focused harder, drawing the first rune again. It appeared quickly, but the moment he tried to bring out the second, it felt like something heavy was pressing down on him.
His mana drained much faster, and the shape wobbled halfway through.
"Tch..." Roman gritted his teeth.
The first rune was steady, but the second flickered like a candle about to go out. Sweat formed on his forehead as he tried to push more mana into it.
The line of the rune bent and he lost concentration as they broke apart completely. Both runes shattered at once and disappeared.
Roman leaned back in the chair, breathing hard. "So even two is this tough... I wonder how three would be, if I can even get it to work"
But Roman wasn’t done. He wiped his face with his sleeve, then tried again.
Once again, the first rune is perfect. Second rune, unstable but much better than last time.
He forced himself to steady his breathing, his hand tightening as he poured just enough mana without overdoing it, his Mana control was starting to shine through.
This time, the second rune formed properly. Two glowing marks, not shapes, floated side by side.
Roman let out a laugh. "Finally."
But the strain was clear. His chest was rising and falling quickly, and he hadn’t even tried the third yet, and he could feel himself getting weaker by the second, and then he stopped the spell, shattering both runes.
Roman had to rest for a while before trying again.
He shook his head, standing up. "Alright... one more."
He stretched both hands forward now both the first and the second rune forming, focusing on the last rune.
His mana surged, his vision almost blurring as he tried to shape it. The first two runes wavered, their glow dimming as the third struggled to form.
Half of the shape appeared, glowing faintly, but the moment he tried to complete it, everything shattered. All three runes broke apart at once and vanished into thin air.
Roman dropped back into the chair, exhausted. His body felt heavy, sweat clung to his skin, and his mouth was parched.
"I don’t think this is possible for me" Roman muttered. "Three is beyond me right now."
He leaned back, staring at the ceiling. "If the founder could do it so easily, then I’m nowhere close."
Still, a faint smile formed on his lips. He had managed two. That was already proof the rune was real, he wasn’t sure why he was smiling, the fact that he was going to learn a spell no other person knew about.
But there was something else, he still couldn’t explain why he was seeing the founder’s memories.
