Starting as a Manga Editor-Chapter 68: A Small Thing

Chapter 68

Though Tang Yao was eager to get home, her mood clearly had no power to shorten the journey.
By the time she arrived, it was already past 8 p.m.
She stood at the door, took a deep breath until the fatigue on her face faded, then pulled out her keys and opened the door.
Inside the cozy little apartment,
Tang Xun sat curled up on the sofa, hugging her knees, boredly scrolling through her phone. When she heard the door open, she slowly looked up.
“Xun, have you eaten yet?”
Tang Yao walked over and sat beside her younger sister.
“…No.”
The girl shook her head, gave her sister a quick once-over, then got up:
“But I made dinner.”
Exactly what Tang Yao had been worried about.
She reached out and pinched Tang Xun’s soft cheek, sighing helplessly:
“Didn’t I tell you to eat first?”
Tang Xun gently shook her head to shrug off the hand and said nothing, walking into the kitchen to bring out bowls and chopsticks.
“Xun, really, don’t wait for me anymore.”
While they ate,
Tang Yao paused for a moment, thinking she should be firm:
“I’m going to be super busy from now on. Nights like this when I get home early will be rare. You need to eat on your own and go to sleep if you’re tired. Don’t worry about me.”
Tang Xun:
“It’s fine. I’m not hungry.”
Tang Yao chuckled:
“If I’m not back by midnight, you’re still not hungry?”
Tang Xun froze mid-motion. She looked at her sister, parted her lips as if to speak—but had no idea what to say.
She didn’t get a chance anyway.
Tang Yao picked up a piece of beef and popped it into her mouth.
Tang Xun: “…”
“It’s decided then. I told you already—this period is going to be rough. But I’ll still try to come home early a few days a week to eat with you.”
Tang Yao smiled:
“Okay?”
Tang Xun lowered her head, cheeks puffed as she chewed the beef, silent.
“Say something. That was a whole piece of beef, you know.”
“I made it…”
“Yeah, and I fed it to you myself.”
“…Got it.”
“…”
Hearing that definitive reply, Tang Yao smiled softly and went back to eating.
After dinner,
Tang Yao rested for about half an hour, chatted briefly with Li Xue, then grabbed her clothes and went into the bathroom for a shower. Unlike before, she came out quickly and didn’t go back to lounging—she sat down at her desk immediately.
Because she had a ton of work to get through.
These past few days had been nonstop.
They just didn’t have enough people.
Anything technical could be handed off to Kang Ming.
But everything else—Tang Yao couldn’t even delegate if she wanted to.
The manga? Out of the question.
Art-related tasks? Forget it.
Even the copywriting—she had to do it herself.
Ever since she’d decided to make the game, she’d been prepping daily at home.
Back then she still had time to rest, to chat a little with her sister.
But ever since she took Li Xue’s money, she was spending six to seven hours at her desk every single day.
Thankfully, crossing into this world seemed to have brought her… something magical.
Otherwise, she might not have been able to keep this up.
“Can’t skip Chaldea’s setting… Nasu Mushroom’s prologue really does work for the game’s background. But how do I bring in Fate/stay night... Observing singularities? The game’s setting is also 2004—so maybe that fits.”
Tang Yao muttered to herself as her fingers flew across the keyboard:
“That gives us our first gacha pool too…”
Meanwhile,
Tang Xun had just finished cleaning the kitchen and washing her hands. She was about to head to her sister’s room to help dry her hair.
But as she reached the door, she froze.
Tang Yao sat quietly at her desk, posture perfect. For once, she wasn’t wearing her plain buttoned pajamas.
Instead, she wore ultra-short shorts. Her fair, curvy thighs glowed under the light.
Most notably—
Her hair was already dry.
People are like that. When they get busy, their focus shifts automatically.
Tang Yao was no exception.
At first, she lived just like she had in her previous life:
Washing her hair every day, because she was used to it.
Never exposing her thighs.
Being particular about every little thing...
But as her schedule packed up—
All those weird little habits became nothing more than “extra work.”
Washing long hair? Too much hassle—every other day was fine.
Buttoning up shirts? Forget it—whatever’s fastest.
If there’s time to fuss, there’s time to work.
Tang Xun could guess why her sister had changed.
And who she was working so hard for—
She knew that too.
She looked at her sister, lips pressed together, and watched her for a long moment.
Then turned and quietly left.
Tang Yao stayed immersed in her tasks.
At some point, the lights in the living room and bedroom had been turned off.
Tang Xun had gone to bed.
Unnoticed, the time slipped past 2 a.m.
Tang Yao finally wrapped up her work, let out a deep breath, took a sip of water, and saved her files. Eyes weary, she rubbed them and turned off the desk lamp, then made her way toward their bunk bed in the moonlight.
But just as she was about to climb to the top—
Tang Xun, sleeping on the lower bunk, reached out and grabbed her.
Tang Yao blinked, surprised. She looked down at her little sister’s sleepy, pale face:
“Did I wake you?”
“…”
Still curled under the thin blanket, Tang Xun shook her head and whispered:
“I haven’t slept yet. Don’t climb up... I’m afraid you’ll slip and fall when you’re half-asleep.”
Tang Yao stood there in stunned silence for a few seconds:
“Xun… then where should I sleep? The floor?”
“Sleep in the lower bunk. We’ll switch.”
“No need… that’s too much trouble.”
“Then sleep with me.”
It was like Tang Xun already knew her sister would refuse.
She scooted in, lifting the blanket and revealing her slender upper body:
“You’re so loud climbing up every night.”
“…Won’t it be cramped?”
“No.”
“Then don’t complain I snore.”
Tang Yao thought for a moment…
Maybe it was because she was too tired to think straight, but none of it felt weird.
She didn’t even consider that sleeping together might be more disruptive.
She accepted her sister’s offer without hesitation, slid under the blanket, and wrapped her arms around the soft warmth in front of her.
Their curvy silhouettes pressed gently together.
Tang Yao instinctively hugged her little sister tighter.
She was so warm.
“…”
Tang Xun didn’t resist.
Instead, she leaned into the embrace, adjusted the blanket to cover them both.
Tang Yao’s breathing soon slowed and evened out. She fell fast asleep.
“…”
Tang Xun felt her sister’s breath on her neck.
After confirming she was asleep, she gently hugged her around the waist and nestled her face into Tang Yao’s shoulder.
With a soft rub, she whispered:
“Thank you… You’ve worked so hard.”
The next day.
Tang Yao was fully recharged.
Why? No idea. But she was absolutely refreshed and in high spirits!
“Xun.”
While tying her ponytail, Tang Yao looked at Tang Xun in her school uniform and grinned:
“No idea why I slept with you last night, but thanks for not kicking me off the bed.”
Tang Xun looked at her sister’s radiant smile, her gaze lowering:
“You’re talking nonsense…”
“Anyway, thank you.”
Tang Yao finished her ponytail, ruffled her sister’s hair, then grabbed her bag and headed to the door:
“I’m heading out first. Don’t wait up for dinner tonight.”
“…”
Tang Xun said nothing—just quietly watched her sister leave.
On the other side—
Tang Yao walked into “work” full of energy and in a great mood.
That mood lasted… about thirty minutes.
Because when she walked into her “company,”
She saw three people lying on the floor…
Tang Yao stood at the door, staring at the three bodies sprawled across the desks. She was seriously considering calling the police—
When one of them stirred from the noise of the door.
It was Kang Ming.
He rubbed his eyes and turned toward the sound—
And froze when he saw Tang Yao standing there.
At the same moment, the other two people groggily sat up.
“F*’s sake! You gullible idiot! You dragged me here in the middle of the damn night to fix some website—and didn’t even lock the door! Who the hl’s here this early!? I’m gonna start cursing!”
“Is it your boss? I swear, if you tricked us—”
The two of them kept swearing as they sat up…
Until they both saw Tang Yao, standing pretty as ever at the doorway.
And immediately—
Silence.
