Steel, Guns, and the Industrial Party in Another World-Chapter 669: Taking a Hostage

Chapter 669: Taking a Hostage

Lemosite’s lips curled up slightly.
He couldn’t control the tremors of excitement in his heart.
He rode his fine horse, humming a little tune, his face showing the confidence of one who was sure of victory.
“My lord, you seem to be in a very cheerful mood!”
A servant flattered him in an obsequious tone.
“Of course, Aman’en!”
Lemosite laughed heartily, flicking the horsewhip in his hand back and forth.
“I am about to infuse the noble royal bloodline into the Bradley Family. What a momentous occasion this is.”
A look of desire appeared on his face.
“As long as I can marry Princess Catherine, my chances of becoming the Bradley Family’s heir will be greatly increased. No! That position will certainly be mine. If I have an heir with royal blood, what right would my so-called older brother have to compete with me?”
Since he was surrounded by his confidants, Lemosite spoke without any reservations.
The servant just smiled; he had always known of his master’s ambition.
Lemosite was not content to be second to his elder brother; he wanted to seize the family’s highest power.
But unfortunately, as the second son, the power he controlled was far inferior to that of his brother, who was ten years his senior.
His father, the Grand Duke Bradley, had always yearned for a marriage alliance with the royal family. If he had an heir with Rodney blood, the legitimacy of the Bradley Family declaring themselves kings would undoubtedly be much higher—although in normal times, such an act would still be rebellion, any ambitious man could see that these were not normal times.
Unfortunately, this wish had never been realized.
Not having an heir with royal blood did not stop Grand Duke Bradley’s ambitions from growing; he was still determined to rebel with the help of the orcs.
What surprised him was that Princess Catherine had actually come to the Loess Lands in person, leading troops.
What a godsend! Was this the Lord of Light finally granting his wish after all his years of piety?
When the Grand Duke captured Catherine and handed her over to Lemosite, the second son of the family was ecstatic.
His father promised that if he succeeded, he would betroth the princess to him.
Was the dream he had cherished since childhood finally about to come true?
Lemosite was glad that he had practiced moderation in his daily life.
He knew very well that this great fortune had fallen upon him because his older brother had ruined his health through excessive indulgence in his youth.
Unfortunately, his brother already had heirs, and his physical condition did not prevent him from inheriting his father’s position.
So he had to perform even better to gain a higher standing in his father’s heart.
Of course, his father had more than just the two of them as sons; he also had a younger brother, but he was just a little kid.
With all sorts of thoughts in his mind, Lemosite led the convoy to the small town of Ma Weng once again.
The heavy carriages drove towards the town, and the supplies inside were real.
This was a fringe area, after all. Lemosite’s idea was to let the princess’s army go deeper into the Loess Lands before making his move.
At the entrance to the town, he saw a figure.
A knight, and a valiant-looking female knight at that.
Her soft black hair flowed in the wind, exuding a wild beauty. Her fair face was set with a pair of deep, sea-like black eyes that revealed resolve and determination.
Lemosite recognized her: Lady Ofina, Princess Catherine’s close friend and trusted aide.
“Thank you for your hard work, my lady!”
The female knight’s magnetic voice sent Lemosite’s mind wandering.
After he had succeeded, how should he deal with her?
Perhaps he should reward her to an important subordinate to win their loyalty?
A noblewoman from the royal capital held a great attraction for the “country bumpkins” of the outer territories.
Oh, no, no, no!
Lemosite looked at Ofina’s graceful figure and had a change of heart.
She was also a woman of both beauty and elegance; how could she be given to those crude fellows?
Perhaps he should take her as a concubine. Catherine probably wouldn’t mind; they were good friends, after all.
On the surface, Lemosite still maintained a respectful appearance, pointing his horsewhip lightly at the convoy entering the town.
“These are the supplies I am sending to Her Highness, the Princess. Please inspect them.”
Ofina, with a smile on her face, ignored Lemosite’s gaze as it sized her up and down, and made a gesture of invitation with her hand.
“There’s no rush to inspect them. Her Highness has already prepared a banquet, and everyone hopes to have lunch with you.”
“Her Highness is too kind. It is my greatest honor.”
Lemosite feigned an expression of extreme honor.
“Please, follow me!”
Ofina smiled, squeezed her horse’s belly with her legs, and her mount lifted its hooves and slowly walked into the town.
Lemosite and his attendants followed closely behind.
The town’s streets were very quiet. Ofina explained, “Because the princess is here, we have asked the commoners to stay away!”
“The nobles of the capital really have a lot of rules!” Lemosite thought to himself. “Perhaps when I become king, I should have such majesty too! There should be a distance between the upper and lower classes.”
Gradually, the group and the convoy arrived at the center of the town, where public buildings such as the church and the town hall were located.
Thump, thump, thump!
A burst of dense hoofbeats suddenly sounded.
Immediately after, countless armored figures, brandishing weapons, poured out from the alleys in all directions.
This was bad!
Seeing this, Lemosite’s mind went blank with a buzz, and he froze on the spot.
And Ofina, taking advantage of Lemosite’s momentary daze and the panic of his men, spurred her horse and moved far away from them.
“What is the meaning of this? Your Highness! Your Highness!”
Lemosite finally snapped out of his daze and shouted loudly.
Clang!
The attendants of the Bradley Family all drew their weapons and surrounded Lemosite.
“Catherine! Catherine!”
Lemosite shouted the princess’s name directly.
“Hmph! Lemosite, you still have the nerve to bark here?”
The grand princess of the Kingdom of Ordo, with a cold expression, came into his line of sight, surrounded by numerous generals.
The princess seemed too lazy to speak, but her subordinates couldn’t help but lash out.
Although Lemosite had already guessed the reason, his mouth was still defiant.
“What is this all about? Your Highness, I need an explanation!”
Catherine’s golden eyebrows furrowed tightly, but she finally spoke:
“Did you think your actions were seamless? To think that the esteemed Bradley Family would become shameful traitors, and even collude with the orcs!”
She practically gritted her teeth as she said the last half of the sentence, showing the hatred in her heart.
