The Betrayed Heiress's Second Comeback-Chapter 37: Ch 37: The Danger has Passed

Chapter 37

Chapter 37: Ch 37: The Danger has Passed
Our ride to the hospital was a swift one and we were quickly ushered into a private room where we would not be disturbed by the staff much.
A few more doctors checked up on us and, after declaring that we were not in critical condition, they decided to leave us be. They did tell us to use two rooms...until Damian glared at them into submission.
By the time secretary Jason came around and sorted more things out, Damian had taken care of most things.
As expected, the secretary and those behind him were not very happy with his decision to let me remain in the same room as him.
"Boss, I know that it’s your decision and...good for act, but won’t it become a security threat?"
The secretary asked, only to look in his boss’s eyes and realize that he had lost already. His boss was not going to listen to a word he had to say.
"Hmm, are you saying that I am weak enough to feel threatened by a person half my size? Or, are you telling me that you all are not capable of fending off someone like Jenna?"
He asked, and everyone suddenly paled at his words.
The secretary rubbed his forehead before he gave me an almost sorry look.
"Boss, this is not what I am talking about, and you know it. You are not the one I am worried about security-wise...but if you are sure that this is what you want, I won’t stop you."
He told us and, with him dropping the subject, everyone else was forced to drop that as well. Damian very gracefully kicked everyone else out after that and I felt myself relax. Finally, I had some time to myself....
’Huh-! Am I shaking? But why? The danger has already passed...’
I looked down at my hands, but the slight tremble in them did not ease away. If anything, it seemed to be getting worse and worse, and my throat was beginning to feel tight.
Breathing became hard as I felt my chest being squeezed by an invisible force. At this rate, I was going to faint and...
"Take a slow breath...and good. Let the air out...you are doing great."
The sudden presence of arms around me helped ease the tension in my body. I did not even realize all this tension was in my body until I leaned against Damian, who was still in bed.
It took me a few seconds to get myself under control. But once I did, I found that I was lying on Damian’s lap.
’When did he place me on his lap? Was I that much out of it that I did not even notice?’
Unfortunately, the answer seemed to be yes.
Damian’s hand patted my hair and I leaned against him and closed my eyes. It felt...good to have his attention.
"It’s fine. The danger is now over. You are just feeling the aftereffects of all the stress you were under. If you give it some time, then you will start to feel better."
He told me, and his voice was lulling me to sleep. I no longer cared how embarrassing this situation of mine was, I just knew that it felt comforting.
Damian also pulled the blanket over my head before he patted me a little.
"Go to sleep if you want to. I will keep an eye out."
My eyes closed as I fell into a light sleep. A blanket was pulled over my head and I heard some light sounds from outside just as I fell half-asleep.
Unfortunately, my sleep was interrupted by someone suddenly putting a hand on my shoulder. The sudden, foreign, and harsh touch caused me to snap my eyes open and look at the startled nurse.
"I-I am sorry. I made a mistake..."
She blinked as she looked at me, then at Damian, and then back at me before her face went red and she ran out of the room.
’W-What just happened-?’
"Don’t worry about that nurse. I will take care of her. You should go back to sleep."
Damian told me, but unfortunately, that ship had sailed and I could no longer go back to sleep.
__________Damian’s pov
Seeing Jenna leaning against me, her expression open, made something inside me ease up. It felt like a huge burden had been taken off my chest as I looked down at that face. Her sleeping face made me feel better.
I had never felt such calmness in my heart as I did while holding Jenna’s sleeping form in my arms.
The urge to lean down and kiss her slightly parted lips was one that I did not want to hold back on. My body leaned forward on its own, but right before I touched her, someone knocked at the door and entered.
I immediately covered Jenna’s form with the covers.
A nurse who looked too full of herself entered the room and her eyes immediately landed on me.
I sent her a warning not to come closer, but the woman pretended to be blind as she kept walking toward me.
She did not even have the decency to check up on me before she tried to feel me out.
"Mr. Damian, I am here to check up on you. If you want, I can be your private nurse as well. What do you say? We can head out and I can give you a check-up—"
She leaned forward and reached out her hand toward my legs, not looking down to see whether I had something there or not.
Her hand immediately landed on Jenna and the sudden yelp sound escaped the nurse’s mouth as she finally noticed that we were not alone.
Jenna’s eyes were sleep-filled and confused. She looked adorable with her confused expression but I did not like how that expression was caused by someone else who was not me.
"I-I am sorry. I made a mistake..."
The nurse quickly took her leave, but not before she kept giving me glances to see whether I would say something to her or not.
But for such a blind nurse, the only thing I could give her was a permanent leave at her home.
’Or maybe the one I should lock up is Jenna. Somehow, she always gets hurt when I leave her alone...no, I need to get my head back. I have an oath to fulfill.’
