Chapter 39

Chapter 39: Ch 39: A Visit to Anabella - Part 1
On the way back home, I spent my time reading through the news I had missed. My phone time had been limited in the prison...I mean, the hospital. So I had not been able to catch up on the news.
It felt like the world had moved on without me, buzzing with scandals while I had been locked away like a caged animal.
The article about us being attacked while coming back from the funeral was all the rage, swiftly followed by the news of Miss Anabella and her attempt to catch us.
But due to a lack of evidence, there had been thoughts of her being pardoned.
’Lack of evidence? More like abundance of money. I am sure the people who are benefiting from her charity want her to be proven innocent.’
Unfortunately, I was not going to allow them this opportunity. It was time to unleash the secret weapon I had been saving all this time - the video I took of the crime scene.
Jason had retrieved Damian’s broken phone and luckily for us, the storage unit had not been damaged when the cloaked man broke the phone.
Not all the footage had been salvageable, but we had more than enough to prove that Miss Anabella had done this crime enough to drag her reputation to the gallows and let the world watch everything snap one bone at a time.
However, there was no sign of the one person I wanted to fall into this trap.
"In the end, neither Rose nor Karl said anything about this topic, right? Weren’t they close to Miss Anabella?"
I asked Damian as I kept reading the article. Damian shrugged as he kept playing with my hair, his fingers too gentle for a man who could destroy someone’s life with a single sentence.
"That’s what the rumors say, but I doubt anyone actually believes that. Rose’s current actions have also proven that she always intended to abandon her if things got tough."
I... somehow expected this to happen. Rose was smart enough to cut her losses from a sinking ship.
But at least, one of her huge supporters was gone with this. That was something to celebrate, right?
"So, has a court date been decided for Miss Anabella’s hearing?"
I asked, and Damian continued petting my hair without pausing as he gave me an answer.
"Her date is tomorrow. It was supposed to be next week, but I decided to pull it forward to not allow her side to get any time to prepare. Would you like to visit her before we have her stand on trial?"
Damian asked and I had to pause and I nodded, feeling excitement coil in my stomach like a living creature craving blood.
I had nothing to say to Miss Anabella personally. But I did want to catch her off-guard a little. That way, won’t more people become upset and make mistakes they should not?
Panic makes even smart people stupid - and I needed stupidity to win this war.
"Alright, shall we go to pay her a visit right now? The sooner we do, the better for us, right?"
I asked and Damian nodded. We did not even need to tell the secretary to turn around because he was already turning the car.
It was going to be a long ride for us.
__________Rose pov
I had no intention of coming to Anabella’s holding facility. Such a place did not suit a person like myself.
But I had to come here anyway because that bitch won’t stop complaining about wanting to see me and talk to me, as if her voice alone could drag me down with her while she drowned.
I wanted to ignore the call, but my mother warned me not to ignore Anabella and quickly check up on her. It would be a disaster if people got to know just how much Anabella was calling out for me.
So far, no evidence had been found about what Anabella did, but it was only a matter of time.
It would not do me well to be associated with her after all, especially when the sharks were already circling, smelling blood in the water.
’What an annoying mess. Let’s take care of this situation quickly and then return home. I have so much left to do.’
"Miss Anabella, you are finally here. Here, please sign here and we shall allow you to go inside."
The man in front of me told me as he forwarded the list for me to sign my name on. There was no way I was going to leave tangible evidence of my visiting here.
When I did not immediately sign my name on the piece of paper, the man looked confused.
"Excuse me, miss, but is there a problem here?"
He asked and I gave him a calm look.
"Can you get the person in charge of this place to come here? And please tell them to hurry up. I need to make some things clear for the sake of my own security."
I told the man and he gave me a few suspicious looks before he nodded and went to get his ’boss’. I could tell that he was not happy. But I knew how to make him happy.
"Here, this is a small bonus for all your efforts so far. I am sure it must not be easy working with such dangerous people."
I told the man and he suddenly looked happy to take the money I offered him.
The fact that he took the money so quickly and eagerly told me that this room was not monitored.
Actually, the money trick was not something I came up with on my own. It was something my mother had taught me to do to check up on the situation.
The man quickly came back with his superior and the man held his hand out for me to shake.
"Miss Rose, it is a pleasure to see you. Now, my subordinate told me that you wanted to talk to me about something?"
I nodded.
"Yes, I wanted to see Anabella, but I also need a favor from you. If you agree to do me a favor, I promise to help you out in the future as well."
I told the man and he only took a few seconds to think before he nodded.
"Of course. I already talked with your mother. You are free to talk to our prisoner, Miss Anabella."
The man told me and I thanked him before I entered the place where Anabella was being kept.
As soon as her eyes fell on me, she moved and grabbed my shoulder. She looked at me like I was her savior and her voice trembled as she addressed me.
"R-Rose, you’re finally here. Please help me out."
