Chapter 278

The Chick Class Hunter is Being Filial-Chapter 277

Just in time, Jurim and Kazuki’s interview was wrapping up.
The anchor handed the microphone back to Jurim.
“Please give us a final word.”
“Hyeonak has crafting hunters just as outstanding as Hunter Amakusa.”
Jurim glanced at Guru, whose eyes were shining, and gave a small smile.
“We’ll show you something good together.”
“Thank you for those kind words.”
As Jurim and Kazuki’s interview ended, Seol Yeo-jin tensed up, watching Gidan and Serhi stand to begin their turn.
The anchor’s gaze at the children was sharp, like a predator eyeing prey.
After all, there had been that fiery German interview earlier. He clearly expected to get provocative answers by throwing bait at these hot-blooded boys.
While the anchor and the kids exchanged formal greetings and pleasantries, Seol Yeo-jin’s gaze suddenly caught on the chick drone Gidan was holding.
“You’re both highly likely to be selected as starters in this Germany exchange match. Have you made any special preparations for that? Since the exchange differs a bit from normal raids, perhaps increased training volume or some strategic adjustments?”
“No. Nothing special. We’re just training as usual.”
“Would it be fair to interpret that as confidence—that your regular training alone is enough to beat the German team?”
“Ahaha, yes. We’re definitely superior to the German team, so there’s no need to be nervous. Isn’t that right?”
“Yeah.”
At Gidan’s prompting, Serhi gave a short reply.
Gidan grinned broadly and tapped the chick drone’s head for all to see.
'That’s...?'
'Isn’t that the thing Guru’s been carrying around in her arms this whole time?'
'Why’s he holding it?'
Seol Yeo-jin bent down in front of Guru, whose mouth was hanging open, and asked:
“Guru, what did you and those oppas talk about earlier?”
“Shhh, Gwuu not s’posed to say. Secwet.”
“Couldn’t you tell just your auntie?”
“Mmm...” Guru clasped her hands behind her back and swayed side to side.
While the child hesitated, the anchor cast out a provocative question like lowering a fishing rod.
“Did you happen to see the German team’s interview? They even made comments about Hyeonak.”
“Of course we did.”
Gidan curled his lips upward in a smirk, while Serhi nodded and spoke.
“It was just a ★ 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 ★ bunch of whining. Too old and worn-out. Guess that’s what you get from an old lion.”
He was making a jab at the German team coach’s guild, Löwenherz (Lion’s Heart).
Gidan chuckled, and the anchor’s face lit up with satisfaction.
He must have been thrilled to catch the exact war of words he wanted on camera.
While Seol Yeo-jin pressed her hand to her forehead, the anchor exchanged a satisfied glance with the cameraman and moved on.
“Of course, lineup decisions are fully up to the coach, but could you give us a little spoiler from Hyeonak’s side about the starters?”
At that, Gidan’s eyes sparkled.
As if the question he’d been waiting for had finally come.
'No way...?' Seol Yeo-jin’s gaze wavered.
But Gidan simply lifted the chick drone and spoke.
“Please look forward to seeing our youngest in action.”
“Excuse me? Youngest?”
Gidan flapped the drone’s wings as if to demonstrate.
“Yup. Our youngest, the Mephisto Series. Scheduled to participate.”
The anchor and Seol Yeo-jin’s mouths both dropped open.
“Then you mean... you’ll be entering with a drone?”
“Yes. That’s correct.”
At Gidan’s firm reply, everyone’s faces went blank with shock.
Jurim shot Kazuki a look, asking with his expression whether this had been agreed upon, but Kazuki shook his head firmly.
Frowning, Jurim turned to Guru—who was gazing at Gidan’s proud drone display with a blushing, delighted face.
“Wait a moment. Aren’t the tournament rules one main weapon per player? That would mean one of you has to give up your weapon to field the drone, correct?”
Gidan and Serhi exchanged glances, then both snickered and shook their heads.
“No. As I said, our youngest will be the final lineup member. Since a drone can’t be registered as a player, our Guru will carry the drone and participate.”
“Pardon? You mean you’re giving up one of your lineup slots...?”
As the anchor stammered, Gidan looked straight into the camera with a mocking expression and replied.
“As I said, we’re so far above the German team. We figured a penalty like this will make it more fun.”
Grin.
Serhi folded his arms and added:
“They told us to dedicate ourselves to playing house, so we figured, why not actually play house?”
It was the ultimate provocation—saying they would face Germany with the very “toy” that had been mocked.
Seol Yeo-jin nearly screamed, but instead rushed quickly toward Jurim.
“Guildmastuh! Are you really just going to stand there?”
The unspoken demand was clear: lineup authority belonged to him.
Even if the kids blurted out such nonsense in the heat of Germany’s provocation, if Jurim refused, it would all be invalid.
“Hmm...”
Jurim made a low sound of reluctance, his eyes sliding toward Guru.
He, too, was displeased at the thought of Guru participating in the exchange.
But—
Unlike earlier, when she’d drooped like a rained-on puppy, Guru’s face was flushed with happiness.
Jurim let out a heavy sigh.
'It won’t be dangerous anyway...'
The exchange was a raid format where each team cleared monsters in their own sector while disrupting each other.
Direct harm to opponents was strictly forbidden, so as long as she just stayed at the starting point, there would be no danger at all.
In fact, support members often just sat safely in the rear.
Gidan and Serhi surely had that in mind when they declared they’d register Guru as a player.
So Jurim could only shrug his shoulders.
“Kids’ games should be left to the kids.”
At last, the interview ended with Gidan and Serhi promising to show something good, then they dashed over to Guru.
Guru giggled, showing off item after item from her cart with the boys.
But when Seol Yeo-jin approached with a fearsome face, the kids scattered in a hurry.
Jurim, hands in his pockets, gave a small chuckle and quietly watched Guru’s bright smile.
'What could possibly make her so happy when she doesn’t even understand anything?'
Suddenly, a recent conversation with his father came to mind.
“It was for Guru’s sake. She must never find out.”
While investigating “Project Wilderness” for information on Dr. Chloe Han, Jurim had discovered traces of deliberate data destruction.
It was his father’s decision.
On Suhyeong had ordered the research data destroyed—for Guru’s sake.
'What the hell is he thinking...?'
She was a child who longed desperately for her mom and dad...
The possibility his father foresaw could not be allowed.
Guru, an experimental subject? Ridiculous.
If Chloe Han were alive, could she have given an answer?
But finding any trace of her still seemed hopeless.

There’s gotta be more to it.
Where does this insane Hyeonak confidence even come from?
Guru’s “cuteness”?
