Chapter 303

The Game of a Legendary Genius Dark Mage-Chapter 302

0.
Due to his mother’s birthday, Seong hadn't logged into the game for two days.
It felt a bit of a stretch to say it had been a “long time,” just for two days.
But still, it was the first time Seong had ever been away from the game for that long since starting.
Logging in, following the now-familiar routine, Seong looked around.
His memory was intact, but being in Septem Arcana felt a little awkward.
He’d gotten used to the scenery of Heptarion after all.
‘I was there quite a while.’
Not that he felt any regret about it.
The interactions with the NPCs had been fun, sure, but in the end, what really mattered was inheriting the Lord of the Dead.
Had the preparations been completed?
With that expectation in mind, Seong entered the Mage Tower of Serul. Will greeted him as if he’d been waiting for just this moment.
“You’ve arrived at the perfect time.”
“Oh? That means?”
“Yes, the preparations have just been completed.”
Seong wondered what preparations he meant—when suddenly, a grayish aura rose from deep within Will’s core and drifted toward him.
At the same time:
[The final condition to inherit the Lord of the Dead has been unlocked.]
[Obtain a weapon imbued with demonic energy. (5/5) (Complete)]
[Destroy the demon heart, the source of magical energy. (Complete)]
[Experience the entire Chronicle of the Lord of the Dead. (Incomplete)]
‘The Chronicle of the Lord of the Dead?’
So he had to experience it in full?
His first thought was that it might be something like his previous journey into the past—like when he met Hindel.
But it seemed that wasn’t the case.
Will spoke with a hint of regret.
“This condition is quite a difficult one.”
“Is there a portal to the past?”
Will shook his head, clearly uncomfortable with the answer.
No portal to the past?
Surprised, Seong turned to Will.
Then Helena chimed in with a sigh, as if the situation were inevitable.
“Even if you go to the past, it’s not really the actual past.”
“Then what is it?”
“The living extract their memories and use them to recreate fields—like what Noctrynium did.”
Then wouldn’t that still be possible?
Even if the soul was different, Will did have the memories.
However—
“Will may possess the memories, but since the soul is different, they’re not truly his memories.”
“You’re... remarkably well-informed,” Seong said, nodding at Helena’s insight.
And it made sense to him.
Memories are embedded within the soul.
That’s why Seong is able to absorb memories and experiences through souls.
But Will, despite holding the memories, was of a different soul.
So those memories remained only as information—not true experience.
Because it was his own ability, Seong grasped this quickly and tilted his head in mild frustration.
Then how am I supposed to experience the Chronicle of the Lord of the Dead?
As he was thinking that—
“There,” Helena said, as if she already knew.
Will also nodded in agreement.
Where? Seong looked between the two, curious.
Will explained.
“In your terms, there’s a place among the seven cities called Seftia.”
“Seftia?”
“Yes. The City of Books, City of Stories, and City of Libraries—it’s a very unique place. The books stored there are far from ordinary.”
“Huh?”
So what was so special about the books?
Seong looked at Will, puzzled.
Will continued.
“Seftia records everything in existence and expresses it through books. And when you read those books, you can directly experience what’s written.”
“Ah? Then that means—”
“Yes. You’ll need to find the record book of the real Will Baghdad and experience the Chronicle of the Lord of the Dead. Only then can the inheritance proceed.”
At that, Seong smiled instantly.
The final condition.
It sounded fairly complicated—but it also sounded incredibly fun.
‘So it’s like entering a book to experience the story?’
He figured that must be how Seftia’s dungeon was designed.
However—
“To gain access to those books, you must first clear the more challenging ones. Only ◆ Nоvеlіgһt ◆ (Only on Nоvеlіgһt) then are you granted access to higher-tier books.”
“Hmmm. Sounds like it’ll take a while.”
“Yes, most likely.”
Still, it sounded like fun.
Seong smiled.
He was about to head off to a city that sounded genuinely interesting.
Then suddenly—
A library, huh...
He briefly remembered the eccentric user he met in a library once—but quickly brushed it off.
Sure, they were odd for lurking around libraries in-game, but unless that person was leveling faster than him, there was no chance of running into them again.
They’d met in the Fifth City, after all.
It would be unusual to run into them again in the Seventh.
Seong’s backup team was still struggling just to catch up to him.
With that in mind, Seong stood and set his next objective.
“Good luck out there.”
Seong smiled and replied,
“Thank you. I’ll return as quickly as I can.”
With that, he exited the Mage Tower.
Will, watching him go, smiled faintly and nodded.
It was naturally going to take a long time.
But he couldn’t help but think—if it was Seong, maybe it would be different.
He muttered under his breath,
“Please, return safely.”
1.
Seftia, the City of Books.
Belonging to no nation—its origin unknown even in the oldest records—a legendary city.
No other city in the world could boast more books.
On paper, it sounded like a place most players wouldn’t care for—but in reality, it was wildly popular.
A dreamlike system:
Open a book, and it becomes a dungeon.
There were few cities as unique.
No wonder people flocked to it.
Even users who never set foot in a real-world library now swarmed the shelves here.
It was odd, sure, but everyone scrambled to open books.
“So many people.”
Seong looked around, noting how crowded it was.
Not just users—there were plenty of NPCs, too.
NPCs seeking information, players chasing new experiences—the streets were full.
Given how few users were above level 220, it was clear the city was saturated.
Even Seong, feeling a little out of place, moved carefully through the crowd.
Still—
‘How am I supposed to find it here?’
There were seven libraries in the city.
It was overwhelming.
He recalled what he’d heard:
‘They’re divided by tier.’
From Normal, to Rare, Epic, Unique, Legendary, Almighty, and finally, the untiered Seventh Library.
No one knew which tier the Chronicle of the Lord of the Dead belonged to.
‘Hopefully it’s in the Legendary tier.’
That would be ideal.
But who was he kidding?
All of Seong’s monarch-class skills were Almighty tier.
The Lord of the Dead was likely the same.
With that mix of anxiety and anticipation, Seong first entered the Normal-tier Library.
Each tier required a different number of book completions.
For the Normal tier, ten books had to be completed to gain access to the Rare tier.
‘Let’s get started.’
He already felt tired just thinking about it—but there was no choice.
As Seong stepped inside, he was shocked by the vastness of the space, completely different from how the library looked from outside.
‘Spatial distortion?’
It was so enormous, it felt almost unnatural.
Pick ten books from here, and you could move on to the Rare tier.
Got it.
As Seong walked toward the shelves, a strange sign caught his eye.
[Normal-tier libraries are limited to 100 book accesses per user.]
Honestly, he couldn’t imagine anyone reading 100 books here—but he made a mental note.
There was a limit.
Browsing the shelves, he saw a range of intriguing titles:
[The Shocking Death of a Country Boy]
[A Monster Wave in the Middle of Nowhere?!]
[Won’t Somebody Stop These Bandits?]
Some of the titles were actually interesting.
Curious about the first, Seong opened The Shocking Death of a Country Boy.
Why was the death “shocking”?
Once opened, dungeon info flowed out like pages of a real book.
It included the mission and a summary of the storyline.
It told the tale of a rural youth who found himself caught in strange events. He sensed someone was after him—and ended up dead.
The mission: Prevent his death and uncover the killer.
‘This is more fun than I expected.’
It was a Normal-tier dungeon, so naturally easy—but still took more time than he thought.
The culprit: the village chief. Motivated by inheritance after the boy’s parents died, he tried to kill him. Seong uncovered the truth and dealt with the chief.
Though easy, it was surprisingly engaging. And—
[You’ve gained a significant amount of experience!]
Even for Normal tier, the experience gain was massive.
‘Oh?’
Apparently, each book counted as a full scenario. No wonder there was a cap of 100.
Just from this, one could gain ten levels or more.
Seong was tempted—but reminded himself not to lose sight of his goal.
He cleared all ten Normal-tier books in just one day.
‘Phew. Ten books isn’t nothing.’
It was fun, sure—but rushing through made it exhausting.
Still, clearing ten books in a single day was impressive, and on top of that—
[You’ve gained a significant amount of experience.]
[You are now Level 231.]
He’d even leveled up.
Satisfying, to say the least.
‘That’s enough for today.’
Tomorrow, he’d start with the Rare-tier library. He was glad it was fun.
Once he inherited the Lord of the Dead, this city would be ideal for leveling.
The efficiency was incredible.
As Seong logged out, another user lingered in the Normal-tier library, muttering to himself in disappointment.
A short, curly-haired guy in his early 20s, wearing glasses.
He spoke with genuine regret.
“Why limit it to 100...? It’s so good...”
Apparently, he’d already read all 100.
He smacked his lips in frustration.
“And Rare only lets you read 50...”
So he’d already cleared the Rare tier too.
Then—
“I’ve finished Epic too... I guess it’s time for Unique. Hope they let me read more in there.”
Adjusting his glasses, he muttered as he walked off.
It was the same oddball user Seong had met back in the Fifth City.
Barbaros, muttering his disappointment, headed toward the Unique-tier Library.
