The Guide is Actually a Body-Switching Esper [BL]-Chapter 462: Monster Delivery Service

Chapter 462

Chapter 462: Monster Delivery Service
"No." Without hesitation, Ava rejected Lane’s request.
Of course, Lane had already expected that kind of reaction, so he wasn’t deterred in the slightest.
"Please?" He leaned forward, looking at Ava with puppy eyes. "Pretty please?"
Ava sized him up, her expression unchanged. "Lane, I’m also busy. I don’t have time to act as your secretary..."
"It won’t be much, I promise! You just need to skim through Blanc and Vulcan’s emails, and respond to Blanc if necessary... I even prepared you a short guide on how to respond! See, I’ll be on the raids for next month or so, so I won’t be able to check my inbox at all..."
That was really all that he needed. Make sure that Blanc got responses to his proposals, no matter how short, so that he wouldn’t start acting behind Lane’s back (if he wasn’t doing that already).
After all, Blanc was a smart person. He knew that he stood no chance against Lane, if Lane ever decided that the secret organization was better off without him. And it wasn’t as if he was one of the zealous members who fervently believed in the cause. He treated it more like a career, using whatever means necessary to fulfill his own ambitions. Just as he had done back in his corporate days, before he had been caught illegally using his unregistered abilities, which then led to his fleeing to the Forbidden Zone.
Ava stared at Lane in silence for a while. If it were just this much, then she should be able to ding enough time, but...
"Is it really necessary?" she asked with a heavy sigh.
"Well, kind of?" Lane shrugged his shoulders. "I don’t know what Blanc might do. I feel like he’s been getting frustrated recently for some reason..."
"I wonder why," Ava rolled her eyes in response. Although she had personally met Blanc, she could sympathize with the man. She loved Lane as a friend, they were besties and all, but if she were to have him for a boss, she would also lose her head!
Lane could more or less guess what she was thinking, but he wasn’t offended at all. It was just friendly banter. What he cared about more was that Ava’s resistance was lessening. Taking advantage of it, he decided to deliver the final blow.
"I can give you something you will like in return," he said with a suggestive smile.
Naturally, he had a bribe prepared!
"...Oh?" Ava perked up. "What is it?"
Instead of answering, Lane stood up, and walked over to the empty space in the lab. Then, he reached into his spatial bag, and pulled out...
Another spatial bag.
It wasn’t a regular spatial bag, though. While it wasn’t wavelength lock protected like some of the bags that Lane had, it had another interesting feature - it could be unfolded in a way that greatly enlarged the opening. This way, it was possible to place very large objects inside...
Ava watched Lane’s actions in silence, but just as Lane reached into the second spatial bag, she suddenly stood up, alerted. "Wait..." she tried to protest.
But it was already too late. Lane had pulled a massive, ten or so feet long lizard monster, tossing it on the floor.
A dead lizard, of course.
"Lane! You’re going to get blood everywhere!" Ava protested, rushing to Lane’s side.
Lane only laughed in response, though, taking a spider monster out of the bag next. "Relax! There’s no blood. I knew that you would have wanted them as undamaged as possible, so I only electrocuted them."
"Electrocuted?" Ava furrowed her brows. Not because she was surprised - she knew about Lane’s lightning ability - but rather because she was worried... about the state of the monsters’ carcasses. What if their insides had been burned to the point of being too damaged to properly examine them? Especially the fluids and threads that they produced...
Thankfully, her concerns were unwarranted.
"Don’t worry, I didn’t electrocute them too much. Just a little bit to paralyze them for a moment, so that I could catch them in the spatial bag. They were still alive after that, so it should be fine," Lane reassured her.
"Oh." Ava’s expression eased a bit. While the fact that monsters had still been alive the moment Lane had caught them didn’t mean that they were fine, at least the chances of their organs being still functional were a bit higher.
Of course, the monsters were as dead as they could be now, but that was understandable. They had been in the spatial bag, after all, and no spatial bag, not even the best one, could sustain life. Not yet, at the very least.
"Well... That is indeed a tempting offer..." Ava walked around the carcasses, observing them from all sides. They had to put them back in the spatial bag soon, to ensure that the decay process wouldn’t start before she dissected them, but she wanted to at least take a look first. It wasn’t every day that she had the opportunity to examine high-ranking monsters... And while it would have been even better if she could get them alive, well-preserved carcasses were also fine!
Lane wasn’t done yet, though.
"I have something else," he said with a mysterious smile, capturing Ava’s attention once again.
Something else? If he was presenting it AFTER the carcasses, that would suggest that it was even better... Ava watched as Lane reached into his main spatial bag once again, then pulled out his hand, holding...
Her eyes widened, so much so, that they resembled two saucers.
"Is that..."
"Yes. A freshly laid egg!" Lane announced, holding the lizard’s egg up in the air with a proud smile on his face.
Ava’s heart almost stopped, watching him. She instinctively wanted to throw herself under his arm, to catch the egg in case he dropped it...
Naturally, she wouldn’t actually do it, though. Not because she didn’t care enough, but because it wasn’t necessary. Even if Lane were to drop it, he still had his telekinetic ability. He would easily catch it before it crashed.
Besides...
"I have more. Both from the lizards, and from the spiders..."
Ava licked her lips, staring at the egg greedily. If it were a freshly laid egg... Then perhaps it could have survived the trip in a spatial bag, as long as the incubation hasn’t started yet. It didn’t need to breathe, nor did it have a heartbeat, so it could remain unaffected by the ’time freeze’ served to it by the spatial bag’s environment. It was just a theory, of course, since Ava hadn’t actually tested it before - she always transported any eggs in regular containers - but it was at least worth a shot. If she could breed the lizards and spiders, they would be useful in progressing her research...
"Alright. I’ll do it," she said, no trace of her earlier resistance left. Although she knew that Lane was going to hand both the monsters and the eggs to her, no matter what she said...
Since Lane had gone out of his way to smuggle all of this for her, likely without his Team Leader’s (and his boyfriend’s, most importantly) knowledge - and Ava was almost certain that Damien wasn’t aware of it, or at least he was strongly opposed to it, since it was illegal. Neither Lane nor Ava had any of the necessary permissions to take anything out of that Gate - how could she possibly say no to doing him this little favor? And still call herself his friend?
"Great." Lane’s smile widened, and he moved on to pack the monster carcasses back into the spatial bag. Not many people had access to this room, since it was Ava’s personal lab, but they still shouldn’t leave the smuggled dead monsters lying around. "Where do you want me to put the eggs?"
He could leave the carcasses in the same bag that he had brought them in, but it wasn’t the case with the eggs, since they were stored in his personal bag, as it was of the highest quality. Ava wouldn’t be able to open it, though, since it only worked with Lane’s wavelengths.
"Transfer them to my spatial bag." Ava reached out to her belt, and with a click, detached a small, grey bag, before getting back to their earlier topic. "So, what exactly do you need me to do?"
"Right. Here’s the guide I prepared." Lane tapped the screen of his phone a few times, and a moment later, Ava’s phone vibrated, as she received an email. She took it out of her lab coat’s pocket, just to skim over it, in case she had any questions...
And her brows instantly went up. Then, she glanced up from her phone, giving Lane a long look...
The so-called guide was longer than she had expected. But, at the same time, it wasn’t particularly detailed. It listed the general types of things that Blanc might propose to do during the summit, and which Lane was okay with, and which not. As for what responses Ava was supposed to give him in Lane’s name?
[Write what you think is best.]
That was all the direction Lane gave her.
He hadn’t even prepared any templates. Not that she was surprised, but still!
