The Lord Of Blood Hill-Chapter 295: Prairie Earth Snake
Henwell’s prediction shocks everyone, and they all resolve to investigate thoroughly once they return.
As Henwell said, time might be running out. Everyone present is a knight, and they’re all still young, none older than fifty. The chances of going to war are very high.
The group travels in silence for the rest of the day.
By evening, they arrive at a new tribe.
This tribe is larger than the one where Old Candle stayed.
The tribe members welcome their arrival warmly.
Henwell and his group have been on the grassland for several days and need to rest, mainly to give the wagons and horses a break.
Following the usual routine, they plan to stay here for a day and two nights, setting off at dawn two days later.
During their stay, no Fury Spirits appear at night.
As Old Candle mentioned, Fury Spirits don’t show up every night.
Still, it’s a relief.
Although Henwell is curious about the Fury Spirits, it’s better not to encounter them.
This allows everyone to sleep soundly for two nights.
Over the next three days, Henwell’s group changes guides, choosing ones more familiar with the upcoming route.
But just one day away from leaving the grassland, their cautious group runs into trouble.
They encounter Prairie Earth Snakes, which bite the legs of the lead guide’s horses.
The horses panic, and suddenly, numerous earth snakes emerge from the grass.
Henwell’s mount, Night Charger, is fierce.
Before the earth snakes can open their jagged jaws, Night Charger stomps down and crushes one.
The group starts to fall into chaos.
Henwell shouts, “Dismount and fight!”
He jumps off his horse, wielding his War Spear like a venomous dragon bursting from the depths, accurately skewering several earth snakes’ heads.
As the knights dismount and engage, the situation quickly comes under control.
The knights possess Fighting Spirit, making them highly alert to danger.
Moreover, their lances and swords are just as fast as the earth snakes’ sudden underground attacks.
After a moment, the grassland is littered with countless broken earth snake bodies.
Despite their severed heads, these earth snakes continue to writhe wildly on the ground. Even with crushed skulls, they remain active for a while longer.
Henwell studies the Prairie Earth Snake carefully. Its diameter is less than ten centimeters.
Its skin is wrinkled, lacking the scales typical of snakes, but the skin is tough and resilient.
The Prairie Earth Snake has no eyes on its head—only two small horn-like protrusions.
These must be sensory organs for detecting the outside world. Its mouth is terrifying, filled with sharp teeth.
The eight longest teeth are as long as an index finger, likely used to hold prey firmly.
Most of the teeth are hollow inside, probably for sucking blood.
Just as everyone thinks the Prairie Earth Snakes have been repelled, Henwell suddenly bursts forward, vanishing from sight in an instant.
When he reappears, he’s right in front of Barnett.
Henwell charges and knocks the unsuspecting Barnett flying.
At that moment, six thick Prairie Earth Snakes burst from the ground, instantly wrapping around Henwell.
These snakes are clearly much larger, each as thick as a thigh, with diameters exceeding twenty centimeters.
The six Prairie Earth Snakes open their fierce jaws and bite into Henwell.
But... they fail to pierce him!
Aside from shattered teeth flying off, all they leave behind is saliva on Henwell’s armor.
And these Prairie Earth Snakes don’t seem very bright.
Even though they can’t break through the armor, they persistently gnaw at it.
Amid the clanging metal sounds, the others realize what’s happening and prepare to rush in to help.
But Henwell’s body suddenly erupts with Blood Will.
A mist of blood envelops him entirely, wrapping the entangled Prairie Earth Snakes within.
Upon contact with Blood Will, the snakes instantly go limp, hanging from Henwell like thick hoses.
Then, the unconscious Prairie Earth Snakes are dragged back underground by their hidden parts.
Henwell moves swiftly, grabbing four of the snakes—two under each arm.
Clamping down tightly, he begins to slowly retreat, preparing to pull these strange creatures completely out of the ground.
At that moment, the others rush over.
Orak and Obian dive onto the grass, grabbing the last two Prairie Earth Snakes trying to retreat underground.
Conrad and Hubert hurry forward, each taking one of the snakes from Henwell’s grasp.
Then Orak’s captain, Waintu, and Obian’s adjutant, Bosen, take the remaining snakes from Henwell’s hands.
The six Battle Knights strain together, pulling the Prairie Earth Snakes backward in unison.
Meanwhile, the other knights form a wide circle around them, one hand gripping swords, the other holding spears, their round shields pressed firmly against the ground as they vigilantly watch the terrain.
A regular knight can easily hold a tug-of-war with a horse.
But a Battle Knight’s strength equals at least seven or eight regular knights.
With six of them pulling together, their combined power resembles six tractors, unleashing tremendous force.
Under their steady tug, the Prairie Earth Snake’s body straightens out.
The wrinkled folds along its skin stretch smooth and taut.
Step by step, as the six knights retreat, the snake’s body inches out of the earth.
After a few paces, the flat grassland around where the snake emerges begins to rise slowly, forming a small mound.
It looks like something massive is pushing up from beneath the surface.
When the mound reaches the size of a small grave, Henwell raises his War Spear and steps forward a few paces, moving beyond the others.
He thrusts the spear sharply into the ground.
Feeling resistance, Henwell pushes the spear deeper by several dozen centimeters.
Suddenly, the mound quivers violently.
Henwell roars, gripping the spear tightly with both hands, and yanks upward with all his might.
The ground explodes open as a colossal creature is hoisted from beneath by Henwell’s spear.
The beast soars over four meters high before crashing heavily onto the grass.
The knights tighten their formation, swords and spears ready, closing in to shrink the circle.
Everyone frowns as they gaze upon the strange creature.
Only now do they realize the so-called Prairie Earth Snakes were merely tentacles protruding from this beast’s mouth.
The monster stretches nearly twenty meters long, resembling a giant insect or a massive python.
Its body is enormous, the thickest part measures over four meters in diameter.
Covered in a chitinous shell, its surface bristles with numerous hardened spikes.
Each spike is over twenty centimeters long and thick, shaped like cones.
Its mouth is formed by four hooked, rigid jaws.
The tentacles they fought earlier are actually the creature’s mouthparts extending outward.
Henwell’s War Spear has already ripped open a massive two-meter-wide gash in the monster’s head.
Studying the creature, Henwell recalls a movie from his past life featuring a monster called “Alien”, it looks remarkably similar to this beast.
