The Max Level Hero Has Returned!-Chapter 1117

Chapter 1117
Davey started by fully grasping the rules of the world, as guided by Rho Aias.
The rules of the world had no tangible form found anywhere in existence. Yes, in actuality, they were the sum of all the rules that governed every place in the world.
“I don’t know how long this will take. Shall we give it a try anyway?” she said in a calm and graceful voice.
Davey quietly nodded and closed his eyes. He then activated the authority of Predatory Assimilation and directed it toward the orb that Rho Aias had created.
The essence of her power began to seep into Davey like tendrils of smoke.
Watching from afar, the cheeky mermaid So-Ya started mimicking his posture and chattered away. “
Pfft.
Check it out, Guardian! I've mer-made the same moves as him!”
[Shut that mouth of yours, So-Ya.]
“Whose side are you even on, Guardian?!”
[I’m on my own side!]

Hmph!

So-Ya glared at Behemoth with a face full of displeasure, but he casually brushed off her complaints.
Regardless of all that, Davey focused on fully devouring the orb Rho Aias had created.
“What does this have to do with training?”
“That orb is a part of the authority that Goddess Freyja left behind. I twisted it on purpose.”
Davey was surprised. “
Huh?

“It’ll probably explode in about thirty seconds, wiping out everything around us.”
The moment she said that, Davey hurriedly devoured all of the power without hesitation.
It was a power that was not just unstable, but on the verge of going berserk.
Seeing Davey make a dumbfounded face, she gave a beautiful smile. “I know you can do it. Let’s try returning it to its original form first.”
Her teaching style was unique because, despite the kind smile she wore during lessons, she was merciless in her approach.
In fact, when Davey thought about what she had done not long before just to force him to grow stronger, it wasn’t exactly something he could laugh off.
‘To think she’s the person who locked me in a pit and compressed planet-altering magic to bombard me with it...’
She had taken the authority of Goddess Freyja, induced a special reaction, twisted it into an unstable form, and handed it to him to fix.
“Davey, your authority of Predatory Assimilation has two distinct features.”
“Yes.”
First, when it came to non-physical types, it could devour and store almost any type of power regardless of compatibility. Whether to digest that power or spit it back out was up to his own will. Of course, there was still the issue of not being able to continuously consume the same power repeatedly.
Secondly, he could digest the power he consumed and transform it to make it his own. A good example would be Illyna’s Continuum-Attacking Blade.
However, once he digested power in that way, he could no longer release it again. The transformation also always required a base source of power.
He already knew well that trying to digest a power without a base source, or forcibly controlling it, caused a total mental crash.
“Davey, what you need to do from here on out is combine both functions.”
Consume and release.
Consume and alter.
He had to do both simultaneously. Begin by devouring divine authority through the authority of Predatory Assimilation, then restore it to its original form without any base material and release it.
Given that it wasn't about repeatedly consuming the same power, it was theoretically possible, but there were two issues.

Um,
Rho Aias. About this... Consuming and releasing isn’t the problem, because I can’t seem to change the power by will.” It was something that worked on instinct. Davey had never altered it through conscious intent. “Once the power changes, I can’t release it again.”
“That’s why you need to practice, Davey. I believe in you! Now that you’ve absorbed the power of the Origin Throne, it’s definitely possible.”
The authority of Predatory Assimilation in the past may have been a double-edged sword that made it impossible, but now, it could be done.
She took a step back, gently holding his hand. “Now, I think we’re reaching the limit.”
Following her instructions, Davey devoured the orb containing the divine authority. Though the madness of hunger weakened significantly, prolonging it still wasn’t ideal.

Phew!

After catching his breath for a moment, Davey focused his will to try adjusting the authority from Rho Aias he had consumed. Also, it was practically impossible for a wingless man to suddenly grow wings and flap them.

Hmph.

Davey tried to force the change somehow, but it was no easy feat. In the end, he had to spit her authority back out in defeat. He scowled in frustration.
That power hadn’t suited Davey in the first place, having been controlled by Rho Aias. There was no way it’d be easy for him to handle it.
“Don’t rush it.
Oh!
I just thought of a good method.” She smiled brightly and clapped her hands. “The authority of Predatory Assimilation is similar to the power of the primordial predator, right?”
More precisely, the primordial predator’s power was part of the authority of Predatory Assimilation.
“So it might help to get some tips from someone who’s already used that power,” she said before turning her head.
Following her gaze, Davey looked over and saw Behemoth, striking a bodybuilder pose with all his might despite having such a scrawny boy’s body.
“No way. You can’t mean that dunce, right?”
‘What, after all this experience, I’m supposed to learn from that dumbass?’
“Davey, you can do it. Behemoth has been through this before, remember?”
He clearly remembered how Behemoth, who contained countless spiritual entities, had devoured the merged spiritual entity Belga and totrias, then separated the two.
Her smile made it impossible for Davey to refuse.
“Damn it...”
* * *
[Why can't you do this!]
Behemoth, having since returned to its beastly form for training, didn’t even know it was one of the primordial predators.
There was no way it would be easy to learn tricks from an idiot who didn’t even understand the source of their own power.
Still, if Behemoth had at least some sense of how to handle power, Davey couldn’t completely reject the idea either.
Crack.
“So. Can you explain it in a way that actually makes sense?”
[You stupid fool! This is just the basics! The basics! Stick to the basics. Look! You can do it like this! Like this!]
Crack, snap.
[
Hmph!
Is that the sound of your teeth breaking I hear?]

Ah.
You
must be hearing things.”
[Watch carefully! Even a dumb contractor like you should be able to pull it off once I show you again!]
Behemoth casually devoured the twisted mana and spat it out. The mana, once distorted, had emerged in a different form.
‘Why is it so good at this when it’s only ever done it unconsciously before?’
Davey figured it must’ve been because of that strange symbol that had appeared on its body.
He gritted his teeth and forced a smile. Of course, that only made Behemoth even more arrogant.
[There's no way an idiotic contractor like you could understand the intellect of a being as brilliant as—]
Ssss!
[Devil Ylgr's Annihilation Fist]
[Heinous Murder]
With a flash, Davey gathered power into his hand. So-Ya reflexively rushed over and clung to his arm. “P-Please stop!! You’ll hurt the Guardian!”
She always showed unwavering faith in Behemoth, calling it Guardian and all, but she was quick to read the mood in that moment.
Davey, just about to launch Behemoth away, relaxed his grip. Behemoth, whose instincts were far keener than its intellect, froze in complete silence.
No matter how stupid it was, even it had to realize it’d almost died just—
[What? Were you seriously about to attack me?
Puhahaha!!
]
Davey had no idea where its bottomless confidence came from. He just gave a crooked grin and let his fingers loosen.
At that moment, a few talismans flew in and landed in his hand.
[Grand Sorcery]
[Descent of the Monster God]
[Grand General of Heaven]
[W-What are you doing!?]
“What, are you worried? Why? You’ve taken a hit from this before.” Grinning, Davey raised his hand. Behind him, the towering form of a massive giant slowly rose into view.
With an eerie glint in his eyes, the Grand General of Heaven looked down at Behemoth, then glanced between the two.
Then, without hesitation, it gripped its enormous dokkaebi club with both hands and brought it crashing down toward Behemoth.
[D-Dammit!!]
Finally sensing real danger, Behemoth bolted.
Sure, Behemoth was strong, but the Grand General of Heaven was a manifestation whose strength was determined by the level of Davey’s sorcery and qi. Even Behemoth wasn’t safe facing its attacks.
What followed was a one-sided beatdown.
Davey stood watching for quite a while as Behemoth screamed and bounced around like a ragdoll under the furious blows. Only after the creature lay flat and limp did he finally dismiss his minion.
“That’s enough, you can go back now.”
The Grand General of Heaven, apparently pleased with the feeling of beating Behemoth up, flipped Davey off before lifting its club again. He responded by tearing the talisman in his hand, forcibly sending it back.
It was undeniably powerful, yet the drawback was that it shared a considerable amount of ego and personality traits with the caster, making it a bit insubordinate at times.
“The caster’s perfectly fine, so why does the summon always end up behaving like that?” Davey muttered.
The collapsed Behemoth raised its head.
[You psycho!]
‘Psycho? Me?’
It didn’t look like its pitiful intelligence could teach anyone anything. In the end, Davey concluded that he’d have to just observe the changes himself and figure it out directly.
He fell into thought. If just watching had been enough to fix things, he would’ve done it already.
Staring at the orb of authority Rho Aias had made, Davey sighed. He’d already wasted six hours. Thankfully time wasn’t a pressing issue, but he still had doubts about whether things would be okay at their pace so far.
“Alright. Let’s take it slow.”
Nothing was going to happen right away anyway, and Kathryn was still alive. If he could master that power, he might be able to find a way to bring her back.
It was still a vague hope, but one he was holding on to. Of course, things were never going to be that easy.
“Still not working, Davey?”
“No. Looks like I’ll need a few weeks working with this at least.”
Hearing his words, her face turned pale.
“What’s wrong?”

Ah.
It’s nothing,” she muttered bitterly. It was obvious she was hiding something.
“At my current pace, this is the best I can do. I want more than anyone else for this to go faster, but this is my limit.”
She nodded, but it still seemed like she was keeping something to herself.
His expression hardened. “Rho Aias.”

Hm?

“You’re hiding something from me, aren’t you?”
She hesitated for a long moment before finally speaking. “Davey. I never pressured you about time with anything, have I?”
‘Oh, please. You absolutely pressured me. You practically cornered me when I couldn’t get stuff done within the time you wanted.’
Davey bit down the grumble and kept it to himself.
“This time, I really did want to give you as much time as possible because it’s that important,” she said firmly. “However, there’s been a change in Evangeline.”
At those words, Davey felt the blood drain from his face.
“Odin is trying to force a coming-of-age ceremony to improve the situation, but if she does that then Evangeline will never get her original personality back.”
Davey pressed his fingers hard into his temples. “Evangeline... changed?”
“Yes. I’m sorry, I should’ve told you sooner.”
“Even without the ceremony, her individuality will slowly deteriorate. Those who’ve already changed... they’ll keep changing further too.”
Of course, even if Davey absorbed and restructured the world’s laws, there was no guarantee they would return to how they were. Unfortunately, it was the only method with any real chance.
Rho Aias regrettably informed him, “There’s not much time left...”
Davey slowly clenched his fist.
Crack!
At the same time, a crack formed in the divine authority he had absorbed.
Her eyes went wide in shock. “My goodness! The authority that hadn’t been responding to anything just moments ago...”
The twisted authority, which had shown no change up to that point, suddenly changed, snapping back into its original form.
Davey had suddenly succeeded in devouring and reshaping with no base material, purely by his own will.
“Give me the next one.”
He had heard from people that he was strong in real combat. When he was pushed to the limit, just like many others, he could unleash superhuman strength.
It was a transformation Davey completed without even realizing it, and it was enough for him.
“To save Evangeline, even if it means her personality is completely destroyed and only her body survives? I’m not accepting that kind of plan.”
Of course, Davey could understand why Odin and Perserque had made such a decision.
Evangeline was a psychic-type ancient dragon, so her unstable mind was deteriorating faster than Kathryn’s.
Crack!
Davey absorbed the authority Rho Aias gave him.
The rules of the world were the fundamental units of reality. They were authority itself, the gears of omnipotence. Even if he had to fine-tune those gears to rewind time, Davey was going to save Evangeline.
[Adorable.]
‘When did she even show up?’
Goddess Freyja stood next to him, snapping photos with her tablet. She then walked over and placed her hand on his body.
[I’ll give you a gift.]
Ssss.
Light began to wrap around his body.
It was something that had happened often when she’d taken him into the past before. At that time, she had kept changing his clothes without permission.
‘She’s still treating me like a department store mannequin in a situation like this?’
Just as he was about to scold her in sheer disbelief, long black hair slid down smoothly over his shoulders.
He suddenly found that he had a firm chest and slender body. It was an androgynous and soft form that blurred the line between male and female.
Davey had experienced the same transformation once before.
His appearance had changed to that of a woman, yet any concept of gender had vanished.
He was in the unique form of genderlessness. It was the same form he had once taken on when he received divine punishment.
[Since you changed once already, the second time settled in completely.]
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?”
[The key of omnipotence can’t be handled by a human body, even if you possess divinity.]
She looked straight at Davey, who was now the same height as her.
She pinched one of his now much smaller cheeks and pressed her fingers into his soft skin. Appearing delighted by the squishy feel, she clamped her hand over his nose and mouth.
[A body that matches your divinity. It'll help your growth.]
Just as she said, the moment his form changed, Davey found it significantly easier to influence the power shifting around inside his body. In fact, it was surprisingly effortless.
However, he quickly realized that the transformation wasn’t just to help him—she also had other motives.
“You sure this isn’t just to satisfy your own personal tastes?”
She suddenly looked away, but her tablet continued to flash without pause.
[If you want to return to your original form, use your divinity. That body is a trial I once gave you, both a punishment and a gift.]
At her words, Davey reactivated his will and let the light engulf him again. Just like that, he returned to his original form.
At the same time, the interfering ability of the power that handled the authority of Predatory Assimilation weakened.
He nodded.
Whether he liked it or not, if transforming into that form helped complete his power, he could deal with it.
Once again, Davey transformed, long black hair cascading down his back, and he sculpted Rho Aias’s authority like clay before spitting it back out.
He then returned the reformed power to her and reached toward the air. His shorter height was somewhat disorienting, but it didn’t matter.

Wow.
Davey, you’ve become really pretty! But...
hmm...
” So-Ya stared at Davey curiously.
He knew she’d react like this, since she didn’t know about Goddess Freyja. If she knew the mute before her was the Primordial God, she wouldn’t have been so casual.
Her awkward compliments didn’t stop there.
“Were you always a woman? Though... I guess I’m still a bit bigger than you in this area.”
She pointed at part of her own body with a smug grin.
“This body has no gender.”
His response made her eyes go wide. “Oh my, that’s such a shame.”
He thought about what there even was to be ashamed of. It was merely a body created by divinity, after all. An ideal vessel, and nothing more than a shell.
Davey had no intention of showing the form in front of others, anyway.
He took a breath and began perceiving the great gears representing the world’s laws. The gears that should’ve been invisible suddenly filled his vision clearly.
“Remember this, Davey: if the world’s laws disappear, it’ll trigger lawless instability. Don’t try to eat it all at once. You have to devour it slowly, bit by bit, like you’re encroaching it. Take it apart; reshape it; and reassemble it—over and over.”
Following her instructions, Davey reached toward the largest gear that appeared badly twisted.
Crack!!
The massive gear passed through his fingertips, swallowed by the endless, ravenous void that was his insatiable authority.
He knew a broken gear temporarily disappearing wouldn’t be enough for the world to suddenly collapse.
He couldn’t leave Evangeline’s mind as it was, whether the plan succeeded or failed. Before the three days were up and Perserque made the final call, Davey was going to devour the entire system and reshape it.
Davey then noticed particles of light being drawn into the gem that he had been given, told that it may be useful for Evangeline.
They were being sucked in as though reading and copying something inscribed in the world’s laws. Davey didn’t know exactly how the gem worked, but he figured there was no reason to interfere.
His long hair fluttered violently from the intense wind pressure now surrounding him.
