The Max Level Hero Has Returned!-Chapter 1138
Chapter 1138
A loud ruckus slowly crept in through the window of the room where Davey stood, quietly waiting for Super Ribbon. He felt a little guilty toward her for what he had decided, but it had to be done.
“Master Davey, Rinne s Super Ribbon has returned.”
After clearing his throat a few times, he quickly straightened up, fixed his appearance, and sat down at the desk in the office with a stern expression. His eyes were glued to the documents strewn across it as he waited for Super Ribbon to furiously burst through the door.
Five minutes passed.
‘Fine. She’ll probably finish what she's doing first and then come.’
Another ten minutes passed.
‘Huh? This is weird. I can’t keep the tense expression and stiff impersonation of a strict father forever... Why hasn’t she shown up yet?’
“Rinne, why isn’t she coming?”
“Rinne does not possess that knowledge.”
Davey figured he was expecting too much from Rinne when she was already incredibly fixated on a corn dog in her hand. He sighed and stirred up a faint trace of mana to recover some stamina, since holding a stiff posture and forcing his stern expression had started to give him cramps.
What Davey was doing was but a small part of a bigger plan to bait her. It was all for his own personal amusement. It was a secret scheme he had managed to devise and execute without letting those three, especially Perserque, catch on.
It had all started when he went to the Great Empire of Ming for the matters related to the Daughter of Heaven. During that time, Evangeline, who was going through a rebellious phase, had pulled an unprecedented stunt and run away to Earth.

He hadn’t been made aware of those complicated matters while they were happening, and he could clearly remember being quite flustered upon belatedly learning that she had fled to Earth.
Naturally, he had vehemently opposed it out of concern for Evangeline. Perserque, understanding his feelings, had promised that if anything went wrong, she would bring her back personally. She asked Davey to trust her.
Davey hadn’t ever intended to mistrust them. After talking with Perserque, he had realized he’d been overprotective of Evangeline and changed his stance.
“But if something really bad happens, that’s not okay.”
Feeling as much, Davey had secretly crossed over to Earth, assessed all the potential problems she could face, and handled them before anyone else even had a chance to react.
Perserque had been considerate of Davey, saying that if anything went wrong, she would bring Evangeline back home immediately. Illyna and Aeria also agreed to handle it, yet the thought that he might find out about every little issue surrounding Evangeline made them extremely nervous.
Even Perserque, who usually never backed down, had gone so far as to act sweet and cutesy in an attempt to distract Davey and calm him down.
For him, the whole situation was just too fun and entertaining. He couldn’t believe how adorable his wives were being, so worried over nothing. He pretended not to know a thing and let them play their desperate game of secrecy, while they had no idea how hard he was laughing behind the scenes.
Having Super Ribbon come angrily storming in was also part of the plan. Davey already had information about Evangeline’s situation and the dark priest, thanks to those damn constellations and a few other informants. Recognizing the risks, he hadn’t been able to let himself just sit back and do nothing.
Since the situation was too complex for a simple solution, he chose to weave each person’s circumstances to his advantage. Super Ribbon was a key part of that fabric.
In short, Super Ribbon charging in, furious, was the main objective.
“Why isn’t she coming?”
Everything had gone as planned, and he knew Super Ribbon had indeed returned to Heins Territory to confront him. Still, if they just laughed and talked things out, it’d ruin his plan. Instead, Davey tried to play the strict father figure.
However, she still wasn’t showing up. A chilling thought flashed through his mind, and Davey sprang to his feet, spreading his mana quickly across a designated area.
He then saw Super Ribbon, who should’ve been storming toward him, instead sitting in Aeria’s room.
“Rinne, activate escape protocol. We were never here—godspeed, I’ll see you on the other side.”
“Command acknowledged.”
Just as Rinne spread her tiny wings and began to move, the door swung open before someone burst in with a radiant smile.
“H-Hey, Illyna...”
“Where are you going, Davey?” Her smile deepened as she stepped in further.
He noticed she was wearing a beautiful dress, but that wasn’t important. She was supposed to be on Earth with Perserque, dealing with the horns growing from Evangeline’s head.
Davey was still trying to process the new development when a massive monkey wrench dropped from beneath her skirt, hitting the floor with a heavy thud.
He just stared at Illyna, saying nothing.
She only smiled even more brightly in return.
There was no time to think.
Bang!!
Davey flung the window open and tried to make a run for it.
Thunk!
Alas, Perserque was already calmly floating outside the window, blocking his path before she tapped his chest with the Transcendence’s Demise.
“Hi, Davey.”
Davey broke out into a cold sweat. “
O-Oh,
hey Per...”
“It seems you’ve been having quite a lot of fun these past few days.”
He had no words to defend himself.
“No wonder I’ve been thinking you were unusually persistent. You have no idea how many cold sweats I’ve had.” Smiling sweetly, she looked like a radiant angel, an apostle of a god. “Well, it’s only fair that I would get to have a little fun too.”
Davey felt his blood run cold.
Generally speaking, it was fine that Super Ribbon had discovered something. Normally, with her personality, she would’ve kept it to herself before coming to yell at Davey directly. Yet instead of doing that, she had gone to Illyna and Perserque first to tattle her tail off.
Naturally, after hearing what she had to say, both women instantly realized what Davey had been up to. Clearly, he had been playing with them the entire time.
“Rinne, you take Illyna, I’ve got this!” Davey shouted urgently as he forcefully dispelled Perserque’s magic. He cast an air cushion on the ground to soften her fall, then immediately attempted teleportation.
However, his eyes widened as Rinne, in a shocking betrayal, flew in and landed a missile dropkick directly on his solar plexus.
“You little...!”
Unfortunately, Davey’s eyes did not deceive him.
Rinne was holding a bag of hotteok[1] in one hand, from who-knows-where, and stared at Davey with her usual blank expression. Her dull gaze seemed to ask what he could possibly offer her in their situation.
‘You traitorous freeloader!!’
“Davey, I’ll give you two choices.” Illyna marched up with a gleaming monkey wrench in hand. “You can talk and die,
or
... die, come back to life, and then talk.”

“
Huh?
An email?” Evangeline raised an eyebrow at the email notification she’d received. Emails from the streaming site were usually from administrators or fellow streamers, so she wasn’t sure who among those she knew would even have sent it.
“
Huh?
It’s from Uncle Moderation?”
To Evangeline, Moderation was a slightly eccentric streamer in the same field and category.
Aside from Al Hajat, he had been her first viewer, playing a major role in helping her get to the level of success she’d since enjoyed. The exposure of his website back then had been quite a shock to Evangeline, but he was nonetheless someone she felt grateful to.
As she hesitated over what to do, an inexplicable surge of anger toward Moderation bubbled up inside her. She couldn’t understand why he had drawn such weird pictures and made her feel so miserable. She felt like she wouldn’t be satisfied until she got a little revenge.
After some thinking, she searched for his stream on the platform.
[LIVE]
He was in the middle of a stream, so she snuck in among the chatters.
“I’m telling you, it really wasn’t on purpose! I was so shocked, seriously.”
He was in the middle of chatting, having tossed aside his drawings and instead pulled up a game screen. Even though he wasn’t actively doing anything, the game continued progressing on its own, as if it were being played automatically.
Evangeline wondered to herself if she was witnessing the auto-hunting system that had been trending as of late.
Anyway, that wasn’t what mattered.
Evangeline opened her wallet, checked her balance, and took a short, shallow breath before hovering her mouse over the donation system. Her hands trembled, feeling like she could scream at the top of her lungs.
‘This is so much money...’
Ding!
[Eva has donated 5,000 won.]
- Uncle Moderation, why aren’t you answering your personal messages? After making me cry like that and breaking my young, innocent heart, you’re just going to ignore me now?
Moderation saw the donation and froze mid-rant. The chat instantly exploded with a flood of question marks.
[???]
[What’s she talking about???]
[Wait, is that really Eva????]
[For real?]
“W-What? Hold on, what the hell is going on?!” Caught off guard, his composed face twisted in confusion as he stumbled over himself in a fluster.
Watching him squirm, the anger inside Evangeline slowly began to melt away like the morning snow.
She was perfectly aware that streamers always got flustered when hit with bombshell donations out of nowhere. It was just a small, petty act of revenge from her.
Of course, that method of revenge was just something she had learned from her short time watching other streams, so she had no idea what kind of meaning it actually carried.
Unfortunately, that made for a real problem—Evangeline had no idea how deeply her message could be misconstrued and misunderstood.
“Wait, please! Everyone, just listen to me!”
[Explain.]
[Now.]
[Explain.]
[Now.]
[We demand an explanation!!!]
[Wow, I really didn’t think you were like that. You’re basically the commander of the lust legion WTF]
[Holy crap, all that weird stuff in your head finally broke your self-control despite being level 26 on this Earth, huh?]
[This psycho. Unsubbed.]
[Seriously, this vibe ain’t it.]
The reaction was way more intense than she’d expected. Evangeline didn’t know exactly why, but she couldn’t stop herself from giggling even more.
“Wait! Eva, wait just a second!” Flustered, Moderation called out to her in desperation, trying to mend and remedy the situation.
Evangeline gave a cheeky reply in the chat.
[Why?]
“Why would you say something that could cause this kind of misunderstanding?!” As he shouted in a panic, Evangeline paused to think.
‘What should I do now?’
She suddenly remembered something her mom used to say to her dad from time to time. Seeing him go wide-eyed seemed like he was about to foam at the mouth. Evangeline quickly typed into the chat.
[
Oh,
I see. It was all just a misunderstanding,
huh?
I was just a toy you enjoyed for a bit before tossing it in the trash, wasn’t I?]
She could barely hold back her laughter.
[Unsubbed]
[Unsubbed]
[Unsubbed, you piece of shit]
[Whoa, my head is spinning.]
[Moderation... GG EZ no Re]
[And you called US the degenerates?]
The chat had turned into a blazing inferno.
[Canceled]
[Canceled]
Seeing the chat attack him in perfect unison, Evangeline decided it was time to make her exit. She figured she’d go back to doing a regular gaming stream today. Perhaps something more laid-back this time.
“W-Wait a minute, Evangeline! This isn’t right!”
No response came.
Grinning at the blazing chatroom, Evangeline hovered her mouse over the exit button.
“Hey! Evangeline O’Rowane!”
Leaving behind his panicked, practically screaming voice, Evangeline happily clicked the exit button.
Then, she started her stream. Just a few minutes into setup, viewers came flooding in. It seemed that the rule of having less viewers as time went on didn’t apply to her. Instead, her stream was consistently packed with people.
“Nice to see you all! Today, I’m going to try playing a game again.”
While she pondered what to play, a few viewers started asking questions in the chat.
[Princess, what the heck happened with Moderation?]
It was only natural for them to ask after she had practically just sent him straight to hell.
“
Hmm?
I don’t know what you’re saying, whatever do you mean?]
[Wow..
.
Ruthless lololol]
[She’s shameless, skin thicker than an adamantium bunker wall.]
Calmly answering the chat with a bright and innocent tone, she hummed a little tune to herself.
Rumors were already blowing up on the streamer forum, saying that Moderation had done something outrageous to Evangeline O’Rowane.
She could almost hear his scream echoing all the way from his stream, but all she felt was a refreshing sense of satisfaction.
“
Ow!
”
[???]
[What happened?]
[Turn on the camera, boss! What’s going on?!]
Wincing in pain, Evangeline grabbed at her horn with a frown. “I-It’s nothing.”
The sharp, needle-like stab of pain had faded, but it left a strange uneasiness behind.
“Anyway, today I’ll be playing a game for a bit, and then I’ll do some drawing. So first, we’re doing this!”
Evangeline began to pull something up on the screen.
[???]
[You’re doing THAT??]
[This streamer really makes us question what she’s on.]
The game she launched was a kind of rhythm game. However, it wasn’t the typical kind of rhythm game where beats fell from the top of the screen. Instead, two rotating rings spun around, and you had to hit the beat exactly when the rings touched the blocks.
Unlike the other games she’d played, it was a mind-melting bedlam of chaos.
“I’m super good at this one.”
[lololololololol]
[Wait, you’re actually going to play? Isn’t this game insanely hard?]
[Fact: she rage-quit Dank Soles.]
[FACT: she’s a natural-born gamer who reached the Underworld King with no strategy guide and no upgrades.]
Ignoring the increasingly rowdy chat, Evangeline cracked her knuckles in preparation.
Davey had once given her a tiny handheld console, to help her train her dynamic visual acuity. The game she had always played on it was the exact same game she’d pulled up.
Grinning brightly, she booted up the game’s hardest difficulty, the one infamous for being borderline impossible.
[??? wtf ???]
[Are we supposed to believe she’s super good at this KEKLEO]
[There are less than ten people in the world who’ve cleared that difficulty though???]
Ignoring the flood of disbelief piling up in the chat, she began tapping her keyboard in a precise rhythm, humming along with the song.
It wasn’t long before her fingers began to dart across the keyboard at breathtaking speed, dancing to a rhythm that was so chaotic it seemed impossible to follow.
[Wait, boss, are you seriously playing a game over here after dropping a nuke in my stream?!]
A complaint popped up in the chat from someone with the username Moderation.
Evangeline just giggled. “
Hmph,
it’s revenge.”
She casually read the chat while continuing her finger dance, operating at a speed and accuracy that stunned everyone watching.
[Wait... was this difficulty something a person is supposed to be able to clear while chatting and joking around like her???]
1. Fancy, sweet Korean pancakes packed with filling. Think jelly-filled donuts, but pancakes. Apparently the fillings can be many things, including honey, chocolate, and Nutella. They are a type of street food, traditionally sold in stalls. ☜
