The Max Level Hero Has Returned!-Chapter 1191

Chapter 1191
The seven unidentified egg-like objects held a mysterious power, yet unlike the dimensional circle Rinne had previously triggered, they didn’t seem to have much of an impact beyond the strange energy they emitted.
After Evangeline left, Davey and Perserque looked toward the softly glowing pond inside the cave.
“Doesn’t seem dangerous, at least.”
“You're being overprotective, Davey,” she advised.
“This dimensional circle was something I caused, but this is an isolated dimension. They said there could be minor side effects, so I have to be cautious.”
Red Ribbon had said that the strange thing twitched when it was outside the pond. That meant it was clearly different from just some ordinary rock.
“Should I set up some barriers for now?”
“Best case scenario, they’re just simple eggs.”
“Yeah, that’s what I hope too. It’d be nice if something useful for guarding the place hatched out of them.”
Regardless of whatever came out of those things, and whatever they were about to do, keeping them isolated in their original location seemed better than moving them.
Davey stacked multiple barriers around the area, blocking both access and any potential escape. After Perserque shrunk and settled herself on his shoulder, he stepped away from the site.
There didn’t appear to be any immediate changes.
* * *
The lighthearted party continued late into the night.
Unlike the usual formal events filled with procedures and agendas, the one they enjoyed was all about doing whatever they wanted. The party was all about eating, playing, and enjoying the moment with no concern for politics or ulterior motives.
After spending the night running around with Red Ribbon and Blue Ribbon, which included eating grilled meat and taking pictures, Evangeline eventually fell fast asleep in the best room of the villa, which had been designated as hers.
The room was even more luxurious and beautiful than the one she usually used, perfectly designed to match her taste.
On top of that, it was in the same place where she had her treasure trove, her sanctuary, and personal haven—her lair. It was clear that no one would feel more at home in the place than she did.
Perhaps that was why, between the exhaustion from playing so hard; the relief of being safe; and the lingering absurdity of the hidden camera prank incident earlier that day, Evangeline slept so deeply she wouldn’t have noticed even if someone had carried her away.
She knew she could just have even more fun the next day once she awoke.
While the guests of course couldn’t stay forever, most of them, including her, planned to spend at least three more days there. Even in her dreams, she looked forward to what tomorrow may bring.
Not long ago, the place had been just some deserted island she had to escape. That image had long since vanished.
As she slept, hugging a stuffed animal that looked just like her dad, something slowly approached her.
It slithered out from beneath the bed, slowly expanding in size before silently looking down at her.
In the pitch-black room, the creature shifted its body, then silently extended a multicolored tentacle and reached toward Evangeline.
The being gently brushed her cheek with the tentacle, then quietly shrank back.
The next morning, Evangeline, feeling warm and cozy, hugged whatever she was holding even tighter.

Mmgh.
” Smiling happily, still halfway in a dream, she seemed to enjoy the soft texture in her arms even more as she snuggled closer.
Her eyelids then fluttered open with a jolt. She blinked a few times and stared blankly at what, or who, she had been hugging.
“Dad?”
To her surprise, what she had been holding wasn’t a big teddy bear. It was her dad, Davey O’Rowane.
He was fast asleep, hugging Evangeline gently in return.
She stared at his sleeping face in a daze, then looked around the room with a blank expression.
She could’ve sworn she had been hugging a stuffed toy, yet the doll had been tossed aside near her pillow.
She figured it must be a dream. Still dazed, she smiled brightly and snuggled in even deeper.
She could feel the familiar warmth of her dad. She figured he hadn’t been drinking, since he didn’t even smell like alcohol.
Truthfully, she liked and trusted him more than anyone else in her life.
However, every time they met, she always got flustered and said things like how she hated him out of embarrassment and over-awareness of herself. It wasn’t how she really felt.

Hehe,
my dad’s so handsome.”
Happy smile on her face, she buried herself deeper into his arms.
Clatter!!!
With a loud noise, someone suddenly burst into the bedroom.

Huh?

A familiar voice.
Though it was just a short exclamation, it was enough to snap Evangeline completely out of her sleepy daze.
It was because the voice that came from the doorway was her dad’s.

Uhhh. Hmm.
What exactly is going on here, dear?” Aeria asked.
She also heard Darian babble in the background.
Her eyes flew wide open in shock, and her senses returned in an instant.
She knew she was hugging her dad tightly. Yet when she quickly looked up, startled like she had just been caught doing something wrong, she saw both her mom, Aeria, and her dad, Davey, staring at her blankly from the doorway.
The fact that she had snuggled into him like a spoiled child looking for her dad was already embarrassing enough. The fact that others had seen it made it even worse.
However, the most shocking part was that she was hugging Davey while the person who had just entered the room was also Davey.
“Why are there two Dads?”
She quietly slipped out of Davey’s arms. Then, pulling the blanket around herself, she wore a bewildered expression.
There were two Dads. She knew that couldn’t be right. If it were deliberately set up, her father wouldn't have barged in with that dumbfounded look on his face.
Then it could only mean one thing.
“Kyah!” She screamed and scrambled away from the Davey who’d been asleep beside her, her face filled with confusion.
Due to all the commotion, the Davey O’Rowane that had been fast asleep while holding Evangeline slowly opened his eyes.
He sat up and looked between the other Davey standing before him and Evangeline.
He then smiled brightly at her and reached out for a hug.

Ugh. Ugh!
Get away from me! I hate you, Dad!” Evangeline, her face flushed red, shouted as she pushed him away. The Davey’s expression drooped like a scolded puppy, his head hanging low.
Seeing him so dejected made her feel a little guilty. Just as she started to flounder, unsure of what to do, the Davey standing next to Aeria ignited black flames in one hand. “Eva, step away.”
Whoosh!
At the same time, the dejected Davey’s body began to distort and unravel. Its colors shimmered into a rainbow hue, and the figure started to shrink. It wasn’t long before it had reverted to a round, squishy form.
Evangeline tilted her head at the sight.
“A... slime?!”
In contrast, Davey and Aeria each shouted in shock, eyes wide.
“Goddess Freyja... You didn’t...!”
“A—A rainbow slime?!”
Judging by the genuine shock in their eyes, they clearly recognized what it was.
* * *
Rainbow slimes.
Unlike ordinary slimes, they had an incredibly high affinity for others and were considered more of a fairy than a monster, even on the continent of Tionis. In fact, it wasn’t even classified as a monster.
“There are all kinds of legends about rainbow slimes.” Illyna stretched the rainbow slime in her hands, looking fascinated. The creature squirmed in clear protest, trying hard to slip away from her grip.
“It looks like it doesn’t like that...”
“But it feels so satisfying to touch.
Ah!
Cold!”
Startled by a sudden chill, Illyna let go, and the slime wriggled away desperately before settling itself on Evangeline’s lap.
“So what’s the legend?”
“They say if you meet a rainbow slime, you’ll have good luck for a whole year. If a woman of marrying age encounters one, she’s destined to meet her soulmate. If you meet one when starting a business, it’ll prosper. There are a lot of rumors like that. These kinds of stories are circulated amongst nobles, too.”

Oh.
I remember hearing something about that back in the monastery. Some even said that rainbow slimes are apostles of the gods.”
Apparently, they were just that special. It was surprising how something still technically called a monster could have such a positive image. People only had good things to say about it.
The legends themselves were far-fetched and full of holes, yet like all legends, there was no way to know if they were based on truth.
“For all that, you don’t seem to have heard about them before.”
Hyun-Ah looked at the rainbow slime curiously.
If it had been sticky or collapsed easily, it might’ve felt gross. Instead, the rainbow slime was soft yet firm. Its form stayed intact, and it looked cuter than anything else.
“But why is a rainbow slime here of all places?”

Hmmm.
” Davey’s eyes narrowed, staring silently at the rainbow slime. “Could that thing we saw yesterday have been a rainbow slime egg?”
Davey had never actually seen one in person before. The humans that those slimes chose to follow had to meet certain conditions, and even then, spotting one was nearly impossible.
They also didn’t emit any notable mana waves, with their presence so faint that finding one was about as likely as stumbling across a gold bar in the wild.
Yet a rainbow slime had sought out Evangeline on its own.
“Seems like it really likes you, Miss.” Yuria’s eyes sparkled as she quietly munched on a sausage skewer while watching the rainbow slime.
“Miss, mind if I tear off a little piece and taste it?”
“Rinne evaluates the tangy appearance of it highly.”
Even in such a situation, the lunatic Gourmet Research Society was busy wondering what a rainbow slime might taste like.
“Hey, that tickles! Move a bit.” Evangeline giggled at the ticklish sensation and tried to pull the slime off her, but it clung to her desperately and refused to let go.
“Dad, what should I do?”
“What do you mean? It’s not dangerous. If anything, it’s a good thing. So it should be fine.”
“Still...”
“That whole ‘brings good luck’ legend might not be wrong, and it even seems to like you a lot. Why don’t you try raising it?”
It was a newborn slime, freshly hatched from its egg.
Whether it saw Evangeline as a friend or a parent was unclear. However, one thing was certain.
It was very affectionate toward her.
“What are you all doing over here...?”
That was when Moderation, or Park Seung-Hyun, appeared wearing square swim trunks with an inner tube slung over his shoulder. He tilted his head, confused.
When he first came to the island, he’d been a bit overwhelmed. Fortunately, after getting thoroughly drunk the night before he seemed much more at ease.
Then it happened. The rainbow slime suddenly zipped forward and lunged at Moderation.
Ssss!!
Bam!!

Huh?!

It slammed right into his stomach, let out a few puffing sounds, then crawled right back and reattached itself to Evangeline.

Pfft.
” Only Reina’s quiet laughter echoed through the group.
“But why was it transformed into you earlier?” Illyna asked Davey curiously, eyeing the rainbow slime.
“Yeah, why’d it turn into that squid?” Hyun-Ah, fascinated by the strange creature, poked the rainbow slime repeatedly.
Davey avoided eye contact, and Perserque let out a small chuckle.
“When a rainbow slime takes a liking to someone, it often transforms into the person that someone loves most. This is my first time seeing one too—I’ve only heard about it from my father. Maybe seeing one means that the child will be born healthy.” She smiled sweetly and gently caressed her belly.
Everyone’s gaze slowly turned toward Evangeline.
Anyone with half a brain could figure out what she meant just now.
Evangeline’s face turned bright red. She had never felt such a level of embarrassment before.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she glared furiously at the slime in front of her.
“So if that thing came from one of the eggs in the pond, what about the rest of them?”
The group exchanged glances.
“Master Davey, Rinne requests rare rainbow slime ingredient samples.”
“Don’t talk nonsense, idiot! Do you really wanna eat a slime that brings good luck?”
His scolding, though half-hearted, made Rinne avert her eyes, sulking.
“We could sell it though, right? We'd be even richer!” Davey suggested.
“Dad!!”
A fish rotted from the head down. In the end, he was just as bad.
